A Summary of Ancient Runes Class

Runic magic was the first recorded form of magic embodied in man-made physical objects. Since the creation of runes to embody magic, certain runes have come to symbolise different sorts of effects. Combinations of the runes and the thoughts used while writing them, come together to form this somewhat unknown form of magic. Being theoretical magic, students of this class are expected to have a basic understanding of logic and psychology. Only students achieving and O on their OWLS may attend NEWT classes due to the dangerous nature of ancient runic magic.

OWLS Students will learn the elements used to create runes and embody them with magic as well as basic runes that promote good luck and defence. Translation and the actual use of runes will be expected of all students. By the end of the year, students should be able to write runes with enough magic to create defensive shields and offensive curses that remain in place for long periods of time.

NEWTS Students will delve into the highly theoretical use of magic through the embodiment of runes. Only the most responsible students may attend since students will be expected to create runes that could in theory severely hurt a person. The last two years in runes are those of understanding the first magic ever used by humans and how muggles and wizards came to be. This is the very basis of modern magic, and should not be taken lightly, as much physical, as well as mental, damage can be done.
