Not exactly beside the lake, but in a clear area away from it, Nira juggled a soccer ball with her legs, kicking it up and balancing it on her knee before letting it drop. It had been so long since she played the muggle sport, which reminded her of home.. She really missed it. This old thing had gathered some dust underneath her bed before the Ravenclaw had happened to drop her book down there. After retrieving the book, she found the ball as well. But her excitement was short-lived, as few at Hogwarts were muggleborn like herself, and knew how to play the game. Nira could always teach them, but.. Really, it wouldn't be the same. She wished she had somebody like her to connect with and befriend, so new still that the fourth year hadn't made any buddies.
Easing the front of her shoe under the ball, Nira flicked up with her foot, sending the ball high and at a nearby tree. Rebounding off the wood, she caught it at her stomach, laughing. Her father used to play soccer with her before she left for this school. Thinking of him now, she looked to the ground, standing there silently. Of course a few memories made her homesick! Nira was like that all the time, with nothing but her thoughts of home to keep her company instead of a friend. Despite her confidence, the old 'mudblood' insult always got underneath her skin and tested her patience. She was proud of her parents for being so understanding about her powers. She was proud of her heritage, be it not what the wizard community preferred.
Bouncing the ball like a basketball now, Nira shook any feelings of discouragement off, deciding that today she would have fun and think of her parents. In fact, later she'd send a letter to them with Fang. The raven, perched happily nearby, watched her with his beady black eyes. He was the silent type, clearly. The crows that cawed annoyingly all the time pissed him off, too. Waving to him now, Nira smiled. She wasn't alone completely.[/color]

After picking up every seed that she spilled in the herbology class, she thought she would head back into the castle to clean up. If she wasn't so keen in drawing the root of the new plant that was introduced in class today, she would never have spilled the seeds by her elbow. As she was walking back, she spotted Nira playing with a soccer ball. Being muggle-born, she knew exactly what it was. However, there weren't a lot of students here that were muggle-born. Most of them had at least one member in the family with magical powers. So, it was exciting for Violet to finally meet someone who was a muggle-born like her. They could probably swap experiences.
"Hey," Violet greeted the girl as walked closer. "You know how to play soccer?" Violet herself didn't know how to play. She wasn't very...athletic.

Startled, she dropped the ball, watching as it bounded a few feet before looking to the newcomer. Recognising her to be a fellow fourth year, Ravenclaw as well, Nira smiled brightly. Not to mention this girl knew about the muggle sport, soccer. Was she muggleborn too? "Oh.. Hi. I play soccer, yeah. Reminds me of home." And her parents, but mostly her father. Every time she came home for the holidays, he had a practise match with her in the basement. It wasn't very big, and they always managed to break something, but it was nice. Comforting. Retrieving her ball, Nira approached the girl, offering her hand for her to shake. "Nira Lanelle." So she wasn't the only one at Hogwarts with muggle parents. She had deluded herself into thinking this was the generation of the purebloods, and she didn't belong. But now, the witch knew it not to be true.
"Do you want to play with me?" Even back at home, Nira convinced her non-athletic friends to play with her. Turns out, some of them were even better than her at the sport! If she didn't know how to play, then Nira'd just have to teach her! Juggling the ball with her legs again, kicking it up and down and catching it on her feet, the Ravenclaw grinned. Hopefully she'd find a friend in this person. She really needed to get out more, Nira really didn't have many friends. She wasn't new or anything, but she was like a living shadow her first three years at the school. Knowing nobody, talking to nobody. It wasn't a very good way to live.

"Violet Bellany," she said, shaking Nira's hand. "You know I didn't think anyone here knew what a soccer ball here. It seems like most people I meet here are either pure-blood or half-blood or another." Sometimes when she talked about the muggle world, people would give her weird looks. Maybe now she found someone who wouldn't give her those looks. It was kind of weird to finally meet someone that was muggle-born, too.
When Nira asked Violet to play, she took a step back and laughed nervously. "Oh, no, I..I can't play," she said. If Violet played with Nira, she would surely make a fool of herself. "I mean, I know the rules and I tend to watch it from time to time, but I don't play. I'm not coordinated enough for soccer, though I kind of wish I was." Back in her primary school days in the muggle world, Violet was always the last one to be picked for a team. And, whenever she played, people would always make fun of her, even the people on her team. Violet and sports are not a good combination, except for Quidditch. For some reason, she can't mess that up.
"Thanks, but I just rather sit here and watch you," Violet said. "In fact, I'm just glad to finally meet someone who knows something about the muggle world. Even though it's my fourth year here, I still feel like this is a totally different world. Don't you?"

Nira nodded her head, thoughtful. "I thought the same thing! Everybody I've met so far is a pure blood." Frowning slightly, the Ravenclaw withdrew her hand gently, glancing at the stagnant ball at her feet. It reminded her so much of home, and now that somebody else might feel the same way, the Ravenclaw felt a little less lonely at Hogwarts. At first it had been so foreign for her, even terrifying, with nobody to help her but herself. Alone, until now. Being confident had granted her a much better life than before, and now if nobody even cared to look at her because of her mudblood status, Nira really wouldn't give a damn.
"If you can walk, you can kick a ball." She protested with a laugh, "We can just pass it back and forth, come on." Kicking the ball gently, but firmly, with the inside of her foot, Nira then tried to pass it to Violet. It rolled quickly on the ground, right over to her in a nice, clean move. Anybody knowledgable about the sport would know that shes done it many times before. Playing now with somebody else, possibly a new friend, made the game even more enjoyable.
"I always feel that." Nira remarked, scrunching her face up for a moment. "This place always seems to surprise me. Its so different from back home. But its good to know somebody else at this school feels like that." Smiling now, she prepared herself for a pass back.
