Polaris had ran out of the castle as soon as she found out that is was snowing. This really was her lucky day, she absolutely loved snow! The sun had just begin to set over the tree line, leaving the sky a soft purple in colour. She tossed her scarf around her neck haphazardly while running towards the lake, letting the snow and wind whip at what skin was exposed to the elements.
Slowing down to a walk, Polaris smiled as she reached the shore of the lake. Hesitating slightly before taking a step out on to the frozen shelf, she carefully scooted a few feet from the shore to check the thickness of the ice, then continuing on. Polaris turned her head once she heard the snow crunch in the silent air under someones footsteps. Looking to them and narrowing her eyes to see past the flurry of snow, she tilted her head while calling out. "Hello?"

Girty looked out of the window of the hut and groaned. It was snowing. Dax seemed to have noticed the look on her face and began to laugh while throwing a scarf at her from the other side of the groundskeepers hut with an evil laugh and a cheeky grin that Girty had grown so used to. “Go on Hubbles you best go before you get trapped in here. Just be careful you do not slip on the ice.” “Come on Dax I could think of better excuses to get me out of your hut. Thanks for the tea by the way.”
She waved over her shoulder at her friend, buttoning up her coat and tightly wrapping her scarf around her self so it covered up half of her face. And as the door of the hut flew open a snow drift flew straight for her, the areas in her face that were exposed to the cold felt like they had been slapped and turned red faster then anything. With shiver Girty hopped down the steps and started to make her way from the hut across the grounds surprised that not more students were running out into the winter wonderland. It was then Girty saw a single person running out over the snow covered grounds, heading straight towards the frozen lake. Something about this bemused Girty and so stopping where she was she watched the other girl approach the lake and slowly step out onto it.
Girty quickened her pace and headed down towards the lake, she had seen people so this before and then the ice crack as it was not thick enough. But she could tell from the blue scarf that this was a Ravenclaw so would have a bit more common sense then half the Slytherin house put together. However as Girty reached what would have been the shore line the girl on he lake stopped and looked straight at her and shouted a greeting.
“Erm...Hello!”
Girty waved her gloved hand at her before carefully stepping onto the frozen lake, losing her footing almost immediately and landing on the hard surface , bursting into a fit of laughter straight away.

Giggling softly, Polaris hobbled her way back to the shore to Girty while offering a hand out to her. "It's a bit slippery, hah. Be careful!" she said in late warning, still giggling. The sun was beginning to set a bit more noticably now, darkening the surroundings. "My names Polaris, I don't think I've seen you around before, what makes you come out here this late, especially when it's this cold?" Polaris introduced herself just as a sharp gust of wind blew against the two girls.

Still finding it hard to stop herself laughing Girty finally looked up to see that the Ravenclaw had made her way over towards her and was offering her a hand to stand up, while giving a friendly warning about it being slippery. Unable to control the giggles Girty reached out and took hold of the hand and pulled herself up, although she still was not steady on her feet straight away. Her feet would occasionally slip away from her and she found herself having to keep her arms out stretched to give herself balance as she walked.
“Evening Polaris, I am Girty Hubbles. And no I do not normal venture out that often, but I have just been in the ground keeper’s hut having a pot of tea. Surprisingly enough Dax makes the perfect cup of tea, although I wish I could say the same about his cakes.”
With a small laugh Girty looked over her shoulder to where she had come from, but the snow was starting to fall so hard that only a small glow could be seen from the hut, but she was unable to see anymore as a cold wind blew Girty closed her eyes and lowered her head in attempt to shield herself form the cold.
“And I have no idea why I did not go straight into the warmth of castle. But those are choices we make in life and I am now standing on a frozen lake, with no balance getting frostbite….but at least I have had a laugh, although I do not think my backside will thank me in the morning when it is covered in bruises.”

"True enough, Miss Girty!" Polaris laughed before her footing became loose, causing her to hobble and slip on the ice, sliding a few inches forward. "I could go for a nice cup of tea and perhaps a bit of cake too! I don't think I've eaten all day." she said, wiggling around to catch her footing and walk further out to the lake.
(Sorry, I'm havin' a major brain cramp ._. )

Girty had just about got herself stable on the ice when Polaris decided she was going to go sliding. Girty wanted to do something to help, but it had taken her this long to be able to stand on the bloody frozen water she was not going to risk losing her footing again, so she just watched as the Ravenclaw slipped forward a few feet, but clearly she had far better balance and was able to stay standing. With a small round of applause to show how impressed she was with the performance Girty looked back to the shore line and noticed that a few more people were seeping into the castle grounds having snowball fights. However her attention was snapped back when Polaris mentioned something about food.
“Oh now that is a crime. You should eat, I do not know what I would do if I do if I missed a meal. Most likely curl up in a little ball and wither away on the common room floor…or make the trip across the corridor to the kitchen. Hum…yes most likely that one.”
Girty gave a small giggle as she thought about seeing a pile of robes in the corner of the Hufflepuff common, one minute Girty being there the next nothing. It would rather funny to see and she actually started to wonder who it could possibly be done; she would bring the topic up with her brother later that night much to his amusement. Polaris however seemed to be determined to walk further out into the frozen lake, much to Girty’s displeasure. She did not want to move on the ice but she also did not want to look like a loner. So with a groan she shuffled her way slowly after the Ravenclaw.
