One of the annoying things living in America was the fact that people would fawn over her accent. Any foreign accent really, and they all went crazy. At school, several guys tried to guess where she was from, just based on her accent. In all honestly, Evelyn didn’t want that kind of attention from them. It was annoying, to have people constantly ask for you to speak. And then the teachers couldn’t understand her past the thick accent. The time change was another thing she had to get used to. She would wake up in the middle of the day, thinking it was morning. Stupid time changes.
But, not she was back, and she was so happy for it too. It wasn’t the same school as before, but any school was better than back at America. Ug, she shuddered at the thought. Evelyn turned a corner and placed a hand on her hip. ”Alright, the headmaster said the Common room was down here…behind some painting.” She turned to the paintings, and noticed most of them looking at her. Eve’s face shifted easily into a grin. ”Uhh…Hi. I’m trying to find the Gryffindor Common room? The headmaster said it was down here…but I don’t know which painting it is…” Her voice trailed off as all the paintings pointed in the same direction. ”Oh…thanks!”
Evelyn walked over to the painting of the ‘Fat Lady’, grin still on her face. ”Evening to you!” She stuck her hand in her pocket, and frowned. Now where was that paper with the password on it? She checked all her pockets, and sighed. Great, it was lost. Eve looked back at the painting of the woman, and grinned shakily. ”It seems I’ve lost the paper that had the password on it. I just transferred here…and the head master just gave it to me…” She rubbed the back of her neck. ”Could you let me in? Just this once, I promise.” Another flawless smile. The lady in the painting huffed, but none the less swung open. ”Thank you!” Evelyn sang as she skipped into the Common Room.
Well, the room seemed to be decked with the Gryffindors’ own colors. Talk about house pride. Eve dropped her bag onto the couch and as she did, a tiny paper fluttered out. She bent down to pick it up, and cursed under her breath. ”Bloody brilliant, it was in my bag the whole time!” Evelyn crumpled up the paper and shoved it angrily into her pocket. Stupid, annoying memory. The head master had told her that the other kids would be at that dinner thing, so she would probably be here for a little bit. She wasn’t hungry anyway; she ate before she came here.
Eve flopped onto the couch, and let one arm and one leg drape over the side. Her other arm rested over her eyes. ”Well, this has been fun. Talking to the creepy Headmaster, getting paintings mad at me, and tomorrow I’ll have to change into these ridiculous robes.” She moved the arm that was over her eyes and tugged the robes out of her bag. They were mostly black, except for the Gryffindor crest and the gold and red accents. She made a face at them and tossed them back toward her bag. Her eyes shut again and she draped her arm back over them. ”Can’t wait to see who my new room mates are.” The sarcasm was evident in her voice…to anyone that was listening at least. Which was probably no one, only adding to her boredom.

Earlier that morning, Bryn and Zayne had had a pillow fight. Bryn, being the lazy idiot he could be, wouldnt wake up and Zayne wasnt having any of that. So picking up his pillow off his bed he gave the Welsh boy a good thump on his head. Angrily at being woken so forcefully, Bryn jumped up and retaliated, it soon became a full out blown pillow war. It was a laugh to say the least, but Zayne spent the next fifteen minutes picking feathers from his hair before going to wash up then go about his daily pattern. He had heard someone new was transferring, but you got that many transfers these days, Zayne didnt think much on it.
However, had he known who it was. He would never have left the common room. Sitting in the Great Hall with Bryn and Brooke, the three of them laughing like no tomorrow, Zayne threw a bit of potato at Bryn, the two then began to have a mini food fight, along the way, someone called them immature, Zayne just laughed and threw a pea in their direction. Just cause Bryn and Zayne knew how to have fun, even at lunch. It was a saturday so a lot of the people were still only just waking up, but all of Gryffindor, thanks to Zayne and Bryn, were awake very early. Speaking of, it was no wonder he was recieving glares. "I think we annoyed people Bryn." He laughed, of course Bryn said it was his fault in the beginning, and Zayne didnt doubt it.
Wolfing down his last bit of toast, Zayne had planned to spend the day in Hogsmeade. So, with a flick of his hair, a wink towards Brooke and a swift kick under the table from Bryn and a scowl, toast in mouth Zayne just shrugged in a "What!?" Kind of way. Giving Bryn a mocking salute, Zayne jumped back before he could kick him again. Zayne would no doubt pay for that later but nevermind. Munching the toast on his way out, he got a few glares from Slytherins, Zayne being Zayne, turned to them with a smile, "Hiya! Lovely day dont you think?" Laughing he walked off before they could say anything. Seriously, why did Slytherins glare? They would be sorry if the wind changed and their faces became stuck like that! Or was that just an old story? Either way, rule applies right?
Munching happily on his toast as he walked the corridors, walking past his sister and Bex on the way back to the common room, Giving them both a smile as he carried on his journey. Just because Lex was his sister didnt mean he had to talk to her everytime he saw her right? That would just ruin his reputation, besides, he didnt want to be seen as another brother/sister parade like Bryn and Brooke were. Though them two suited it as they were twins and they were best mates. But Zayne could not imagine spending too much time with Lex, she would wind him up eventually. Siblings. It is what they were there for.
Waving to the Fat Lady as he approached, she folded her arms. "Whad' I do naw?" He asked a mouth full of toast, swallowing he looked back up at her, "What did I do now?" The fat lady raised her eyebrow, "I havnt done anything! Stop looking at me accusingly!" Zayne backed off, "Hey if your moody I'll come back later, dont wanna mess with the painting!" With a sigh, the fat lady looked at him, "All I want is the password Zayne." His mouth fell open in an -o- type shape. "Well with those glares... I wouldnt want to see you annoyed-lemonsherbert" The fat lady tilted her head, "Its lemon sherbert! Or was that last weeks? No its this weeks, come on open up!" The fat lady swung forward. Did she just like to tease Zayne or something? Well either way it wasnt fun.
Ah. The red and gold palace. He was proud of his house, Zayne went to walk up the stairs to grab his jacket when he noticed someone sprawled on the couch, walking and leaning over her, holding his hair out of his face, something about her seemed familiar to him somehow. Like a memory he couldnt quite remember, but her face was almost all covered by her arm. "You sleepy?" He asked, "The dorms are the better place for sleeping you know, that couch gets awfully bumpy, believe me I know"

There seemed to be an argument going on outside. She could tell one was male and the another was female, but that was pretty much it. The female voice was probably that painting that let her in, because she caught the word password somewhere in there. Evelyn sighed and shifted her head to the side so she was facing the couch. Annoywing person with a loud voice.
The paiting creaked open again, and Eve swore she could feel it's glare at her back. What? It wasn't her fault that she hadn't memorized the password in two minutes. Someone else walked by her and started to go up the stairs. Either they hadn't noticed her or didn't care, which was fine with her either way. The peace didn't last long though, because a shadow crossed over her face. The boy, or girl, whoever it was leaned over her. "In all honesty, I don't even know which room is mine." Nosey people, couldn't they just let her brood on the couch in peace?
Eve moved her arm from her face and propped herself up. She didn't realizethe boy had been so closer; she nearly touched noses with him. Her eyes opened wide, and she almost stopped breathing. Almost. But, that sort of thing wasn't really for Evelyn. She freaked out, sure, but not so much so that every bodily function of hers shut down like some people she knew. Weirdos. "...Zayne?" A grin broke across her face and she threw her arms around him.
"I thought I'd never see you again!" He didn't have a chance to react before she pulled away. Evelyn leaned back and captured a piece of his hair in her fingers. "It's been at least nine years and you still keep your hair long. You're such a loser Zayney." She swung her body around so she was sitting right side up on the couch. "I admit you look a bit differen't. You didn't have stuble at age seven, and I remember you being a lot shorter." She stood up and crossed the room so she was in back of Zayne now. Eve placed one hand on her hip and grinned. "Sorry if I scared you, but how can you forget this face?"
Eve had changed a lot since her younger years. Her hair wasn't cropped short like it always was when she was a kid, and she lost the baby fat from her face. She thinned out, but still managed to keep those curves of hers in tact. The one thing that wouldn't change was her smile. It always filled up her face. And her eyes, which still remained their still piercing blue.

Zayne really hadnt got a chance to react to anything. Sometimes the blonde could be so completely slow, but when a random girl he was sure he didnt know threw her arms around him and said his name like they knew each other, Zayne only had time to react by flailing his arms out and propping himself up on the couch so he didnt completley squish this girl. All Zayne could do was open and close his mouth like a fish and blink his eyes a few times, his muscles in his arms were beginning to ache propping himself awkwardly up and were beginning to become tense.
As the girl broke free, Zayne pushed himself up, and raised a hand to his throat, coughing slightly it felt as though the breadcrumbs from the toast had caught in his mouth. Raising one finger in a 'One Minute' kind of way, Zayne turned around and choked as hard as he could, then cleared his throat and it seemed to have worked since he no longer felt the attack of the breadcrumbs. Sweeping his hair from his face as he turned to look at the girl, he was going to say something smart, something along the lines of, 'My reputation must preceed me if you already know who I am. But to hug me thats just daring.' However he lost his voice when he looked upon the face of the girl and his mouth hung open.
"You... uh..." Zayne stumbled over his words, everything had taken by such quick surprise, Zayne wasnt entirely sure what was going on. Where were his brainiac brother and sister when he needed clarification? Rubbing his eyes and giving him a moment, Zayne took a deep breath and opened them again, taking her appearance in. So he must know her from somewhere, where was he nine years ago? Well he was seven, so who was a friend of his. "Oh my god!" Zayne almost yelled when he finally put two and two together and came out with four. "Eve!" Well this was a happy day if he had ever known a happy day. When the two had to say goodbye, Zayne felt hurt cause his friend was leaving but he got over it. Obviously he still thought about her and wondered where she was and things, but he honestly never thought they would see eachother again either. This was amazing!
"I never thought I'd see you again!" He picked her up and spun her around, "This is amazing, what are you doing here? Last I heard from you, you were in Beauxbatons right?" Zayne had kept in touch with Eve, but the two eventually lost contact, which was a shame. "Hey. Me a loser? Never." He smirked, "Well yeah okay, but I'm the best loser around." Zayne smiled and placed her back down on the floor, running a hand over his stubble as she mentioned it and giving off a laugh, he nodded. "Thats what nine years does to a man. I've grown, a lot and I have stubble obviously. A few more muscles, which wasnt hard as I was like a stick when I was seven." He smiled once more, "As for your face, its changed. Your hair is longer, your eyes seem bluer, and you've lost all the puppy fat I loved you for!" Zayne pouted, though he pout turned into another toothy grin, "But you look good."

So, maybe it wasn’t the smartest thing to pounce her friend without properly announcing herself first. But, Eve had always been impulsive, and today was no change. Zayne seemed to have choked on something, and Evelyn threw him a sheepish grin. Evelyn let out a small giggle as Zayne stared at her with an open mouth. He needed to work on hiding his emotions better. She pushed some hair out of her eyes and waited for him to respond. That dumbstruck expression of his was quite hilarious, she had to admit. Silly little Zayne, didn’t he even know his own friend?
”The one and only.”
And then Zayne clamped his arms around her and they were spinning. ”Woah!” She was still a bit tipsy as he placed her back down. Evelyn placed a hand on his arm to steady herself, and she shook her head. ”Warn me before you do that again, I feel like I’ve just had a hang over or something.” She blinked again, trying to make the room stop spinning. ”Yea, last we spoke I was there. Remind me to never go back. Horrid place, too many girls.” Eve flopped onto one of the chairs and crossed her legs.
”I miss the twig-like you, it was so easy to beat you at arm wrestling then. I think I still have a shot though.” She raised an eyebrow and flexed her arm. At the mention of her ‘puppy fat’, she puffed out her cheeks to make them look bigger. ”Nope, I lost it all. I don’t know how my eyes could get bluer, but thank you?” She rolled her eyes at him and laughed. ”Sit down; we’re not going to run off anywhere anytime soon. Take a break there Zayne.”
Evelyn leaned back in her chair and bobbed her foot. ”Reason I stopped writing letters is because we moved to America. It was too hard to send them overseas.” She made a face at the mention of the place and shuddered. "Never go there. People freaked out over my accent, and then the teachers couldn't understand a word I was saying. It was just bad." Eve rolled her eyes. "How's the family doing?"

Zayne was usually good at keeping his emotions in check but if you take him by surprise then he isnt as good at it. Rubbing the back of his neck, a sign when he didnt really fully understand what was happening, the dumbstruck look on his face sort of stated that he hadnt got a clue what was going on, but rubbing his neck seemed to make him look worse. Though once he realised who it was, his face softened and his hand dropped back to his side. Well, until it came back up to move some hair from his face, honestly, the only problem with long hair was it got in your eyes.
"Sorry, but you didnt give me fair warning when you dragged me into a choke hold did you?" He laughed and itched his arm. Well this just blew his Hogsmeade trip out of the window, but he didnt mind, he could go there anytime. He'd probably go next weekend and take Eve with him, show her the sights. "Really?" He asked, "Do they admit boys?" Of course he was only joking, but if there was a joke to be made, it would usually be Zayne making it. He watched as she flopped herself onto the couch once more.
"Well personally I think the non-twig and tanned me looks better than the twig-ghost me." Rubbing his stubble in thought, he smiled, "Yeah, you used to be able to beat me cause I let you. Afterall we all knew what you were like if you lost! You were a right sore loser." Even though she puffed out her cheeks, it didnt make her seem puppy fatish. "I can see you did, you seriously look great!" Zayne sat down next to her and threw bits of paper into the fire grate, smiling as he watched it crackle and burn.
"Ah, I see." Zayne said and furrowed his brow, he wondered why she had never replied to his letters and wondered who had been recieving the letters he had been sending then if it wasnt her. "Well people would freak, I mean. If an american came here I'd wanna hear them speak!" He laughed, strange how easily amused they are. "The family?" He asked, "Mum and Dad are in Australia. Brads still fauning over Beckii but he thinks nobody knows. Dont tell Lex though cause Bex is Lex's best mate and Lex will kill Brad." Zayne furrowed his brow, "Lex is just the same old Lex, just looks weirder." Smiling, "What about your family?"

Evelyn always had that problem of keeping her excitement in balance. She tended to freak out over little things, and nearly explode in situations like this. Sometimes she wondered how she got so much energy. Jeff was always lazy, and never really wanted to do anything. Her mother was a busybody who ran around trying to fix everything. To her, something could always be better. And her father…well…she didn’t think about him anymore. Eve stopped caring after she and her mother left him. If he didn’t have enough sense to keep his family together, then he wasn’t worth her time.
”It wasn’t a choke hold, it was a hug. And excuse me for being excited.” She folded her arms across her chest and pouted. Seventeen and still acting like she was six, yep, that’s real mature there Eve. ”I never saw any, but they could’ve I suppose. You do not want to go there though. It’s too…giggly and preppy and ‘Oh my merlin, did you hear what happened to Chrissy?!’” She said the last part in a high-pitched voice, and afterward giggled like a school girl. ”It’s annoying once you hear it every hour on the hour.”
”I admit, tanned muscle you does look better than twiggy you.” Evelyn rolled her eyes at him. ”You so did not. I completely dominated you every time.” She grinned slightly and laughed. ”I admit, I was a bit of a sore loser. You weren’t much help though; you always rubbed it in when you won!” Eve stuck her tongue out at him in a ‘So there’ kinda way. At the compliment, she looked at her hands and grinned. ”Thanks, I guess that was one good thing about always being surrounded by girls. It seriously helped me with my fashion sense.”
Evelyn leaned back and rested her head back against the couch’s back. ”Yea, I guess so, but it’s still annoying.” She laughed as he described the family to her. ”Haven’t changed much then. Except for Lex’s looks I suppose. Strange stuff is in now apparently.” She shrugged lightly. But, once the conversation shifted to her family, she switched her gaze to stare at the fire. ”Well, Jeff moved out. He said he wanted to be independent or something crazy like that. I give him a month or two before he’s broke.” Evelyn laughed lightly, and then continued. ”Mum and I got a new house, smaller than the last one, but still by a forest.” She twiddled her thumbs on her lap. ”And dad…well…he’s not part of the family anymore. All that time we were moving, he was cheatin’ on mum. She found out during our most recent move, and he left.”
