It had always been one of Marcus's ambitions to be able to speak to a grown up without flinching or stuttering. He had noticed that he did both very often whenever he spoke to people older then him. Sure, he managed to speak to Amara just fine but she was his sister and she wasn't really human so she didn't count. No, Marcus meant older people that he wasn't related to.
This was much harder then he thought it would be as older students and teachers too scared the breath right out of the small red headed boy. Even Alice sometimes made him nervous. He wasn't sure why he acted that way around older people. Perhaps it was the fact that Mar had told him how nasty older students are? Or perhaps it was the fact that he didn't know them? Whatever the reason over coming his fear would take a long time.
Marcus had decided to go ahead of Alice and Sam to the Great Hall to get them seats as the two had been taking very long. As he took the steps two at a time, but still carefully and hesitantly, he thought that maybe this would be the perfect time to try and concur his fear. Alice would tell him to go for it, he knew, and Sam would not have any idea what they were going on about so he made the decision as he turned the corner into the Great Hall that he would find some older student and try make friends.
The sight of all the students in the Great Hall made Marcus stop in his tracks and jerk back, taking a double take. The whole school was gathered for breakfast it seemed and Marcus didn't know where to start. He decided that at his own table would be best so he took a seat at the Hufflepuff table far from any other people.
"I'll do it another day," he assured himself and feeling much comforted and smiling a little as he took to filling his plate with toast and baked beans.
