A loud curse echoed through the second floor corridor, followed closely by a soft scratching sound as Eliot slid his queen down a checkered board.
The Ravenclaw smirked, staring down at the chess board for a moment before looking up at his companion. The old man, lounging lazily toward the edge of his portrait frame, blinked a few times as he scanned the game in front of him. Almost immediately, his wrinkled face broke out into a large grin.
"Looks like I've got you this time, my boy!" The man leered behind his monocle, and Eliot laughed as a few of the corridor's other paintings crowded around his frame.
"We'll see about that George," Eliot said with a crooked smile, sitting cross-legged across from the scene. Just as he was about to move a rook, a crash resounded from around the corner and Eliot winced. "Looks like another game ruined, pal."
As he whispered he tried his best to shove his chessboard underneath his abandoned robes before the intruder - hopefully not a prefect - reached them.

Nieve quickly turned the corner, grumbling to herself as she tried to keep ahold of all the books she was carrying. She had just left Muggle Studies, her least favorite class, and she had to read two chapters tonight for homework. She sighed as she stopped to readjust, pushing a fugitive book back into place, and continued down the hall.
When she finally looked up from her load, she was stopped short, surprised by the boy sitting in front of her next to the wall. Two books fell from the stack and she blushed, for they had fallen right at the boy's feet.
"Oh, I'm sorry, these books tend to squirm around rather obnoxiously. I've been leaving a trail of them all the way here." She giggled and set the remaining books down on the ground beside him, kneeling on one knee as she looked up at the boy. She noticed his ravenclaw robes and a quizzical look crossed her face. "You're a Ravenclaw? I am as well. I don't think I've seen you around the common rooms before. I'm Nieve." She smiled and offered a hand, clumsily dropping the books she'd just retrieved.

Eliot had just finished maneuvering the fabric of his robes so that they covered the toppled chess pieces when a book clattered next to him. Surprised, he reached over to grab it without looking up and vaguely noticed the other that lay half open at his feet.
Finally pointing his gaze at the owner of the rogue texts, he smiled. "Oh. You're a Ravenclaw, then?" Gesturing to the books, his smile widened. "Should've guessed that much."
He made space for her when she knelt down and added the book to her wobbly pile on the floor. A thoughtful look emerged on his face as he tried to place her, but he eventually gave up. "I'm Eliot" He pushed away his robes when he realised Nieve would probably not care that he was skipping class for chess. The chess pieces fell against the floor as he did and Eliot smiled sheepishly in response.
