Dia was, to put it plainly, a book worm. She found that they were delightful and pleasantly passed time. She read all kinds of books, from historical to ecological to astronomical. All books and any books were for Dia a good way to get through dreary days. However, there were times in her life where she couldn't find the book, the one particular book she was searching for. Today was such a day.
Dia turned to the shelf behind her and once again began furiously reading the books' spines to find the book she was so frantically searching for. She had been searching for the worse part of an hour and gotten through almost a quarter of the books in the library and still she could not find it. Certainly, if she could remember what it was called, it would greatly help but Dia was certain that if she read the name, she would remember it. So she continued systematically working though the books, blue eyes moving quickly.

Offley was searching through the book cases in the restricted section. She had exposed a Slytherin only hours before who had been planting many things inside the books. With ear plugs in and dragon hide gloves on Offley made her way through the accident texts to find out what the agitator had been wasting his time with. After eradicating numerous firecrackers and stink bombs Offley had concluded that a beverage would motivate her to move forward onto the next shelf.
When she made her way down the long aisles of the library she saw frantic movement in the distance, and as she turned to see who was in her library she noticed that it was one of the many professors. Noting that her movements and facial expressions might interacted that some form of help would be required Offley took a detour around the closest desk and was soon standing next to the Professor.
“I estimated that you require assistance. I judge that my dehydration will not prevent me from aiding you. So how can I be of assistance?”

Dia jumped when she heard someone talking to her. She clapped a hand to her chest and stared, wide-eyed at the librarian. "Oh Merlin's beard," Dia huffed and closed her eyes. Shaking the scare off she swallowed and smiled as strongly as she could. "I'm ..." she began but she struggled to find the words to describe how she was doing whatever it was she was doing.
Dia took a few long breaths, studying the shelf she had been searching through a moment ago. There was a moment's silence. "The book!" she exclaimed suddenly and clicked her fingers. "Yes, I was looking for a book. Well, naturally I was, I am in the Library after all. What I meant to say was I am looking for a particular book." Dia took a few more deep breaths and grinned at the librarian. She was incredibly happy she managed to say what she had as coherently as she did.

Offley massaged the side of her head as she listened to the professor attempt to articulate her thoughts under pressure as shock of he sudden appearance. Tucking a wild strand of hair behind her ear Offley took a few steps closer and tilted her head while looking at the bookshelf. Her eyes flashed from side to side as she took in the names of the books that where on the spines. With a satisfied smile Offley looked back at Professor Owen and came to the conclusion that she needed more information to be able to be a help not a hindrance.
“If you are seeking a book duck then being in the library is a superior place to commence. But may I inquire what category of book you are searching for?”
The librarians eyes were searching, almost as if Offley was used to being able to read the answer off a page, although over years of experience only some humans portrayed their emotions as plainly as a book. With a defeated glance back in the direction of the bookcase Offley waited for the professor to answer her question, hopefully a little more coherently then the last.

Dia laughed, still a little panicked, but with one hand on her hip and the other on her stomach she managed a few calming breaths. "Naturally you do," she said slowly, her eyes down cast. "It's ... um," the hand on her stomach moved to her forehead, "um, it's an astronomy book I think. It would make sense that that's what I'm looking for, wouldn't it. I'm terribly sorry for all this I'm a little, a little disorientated."
Dia's hand flapped around behind her and when it connected with chair she pulled it towards her and sat, her hand still on her forehead. "I'm ... I'm rather warm here, Offley," she said distantly, "should I be this hot? I ... I don't think it's healthy." She dropped her hand from her forehead and stared at the Librarian. She was totally confused as to what she was searching for and she didn't like the feeling.

Offley searched the book shelves and as Professor Owen explained that she was present in the library for astronomy books it all became clear. In order to make the library more systematic she had previously moved the astronomy books to the other side of the library. This tickled her greatly and as she removed her gaze from the many rows of books and back to the Professor however her laughter subsided to be replaced with a small frown of worry. Professor Owen was now sitting on a chair, looking rather flustered and bothered about something. Carefully she listened to the Professor symptoms and thought about what possibly could be wrong. It was true that it had been very hot but Offley always found the library to be just the perfect temperature, maybe there was something wrong with the Professor.
“You do seem a little off colour duck, might I be able to get you a liquid refreshment? It might help bring your overall body temperature down. Then once you have recuperated you might remember what you are looking for.”
Offley gave the professor a soft smile and tucked yet another stray piece of her wild red hair behind her ear. She looked down at Dia waiting for her answer, but amongst the want to help and aid her fellow staff member Offley could not help but envy her situation and the man she was with.

Dia smiled weakly up at the Librarian and moved her hands to her cheeks. They were hot and she too believed it wasn't good. She couldn't understand how this would have happened. She had felt fine earlier that morning, or had she? Her mind was a muddle of pain and angry and hurt. Why was that? She didn't understand why she was in the Library but knew she had to have a reason for being there. She'd best get the book and get out before any more attention was drawn to her.
Dia put one hand on the back of her chair and the other on the table next to her and tried to push herself to her feet but as she stood up all the blood drained from her head. She fell back into her chair and groaned. She slowly turned her blue eyes onto Offley, blinking tears away. "Something cold would be good, thank you," she said softly. She couldn't believe that she was feeling the way she was.

A frown spread across her brow and Offley crouched down to be able to get a clear sight at the Professor. She seemed daze and confused and as she asked for a drink Offley nodded her head and swiftly raced off to her office where she knew that some beverages were stored. Pulling open the cupboard door Offley fumbled around with a jug, some glasses and threw a large pile of papers onto the floor so that she could use the tray to carry the jug of water to the professor. Quickly pulling out her wand she summoned a rather large block of ice that fell into the jug sending a tide-a-wave of water over the edge and all over Offley’s hands. However her mind was set on getting to Professor Owen and making sure that she was comfortable and well. The students, professors and objects in the school were all important to her (although if it was a book was thrown into the equation it would be hard for to choose which one she would save) and Offley took it upon herself that while they are in the library everyone is her responsibility. Scurrying past a few students Offley ran straight to the professor and carefully, so not to spill any liquid on the books so poured the Professor a small glass of water.
“Now duck is there anything you can think of that might have caused this small turn. Have you consumed any strange substances, had the symptoms of a fever, a shock to the system maybe?”
Offley once again crouched down in front of Professor Owen, one hand holding out the glass and the other on the professor’s shoulder in fear that she might topple over sideways.

As Offley left Dia's side, Dia put her forehead in her hand, leaning on the table. She kept her eyes closed, tightly and could not puzzle out why this was happening. What was happening to her? Why was she feeling so foul? She could not understand what was happening to her and it scared her. A few years ago this might have brought her to tears but much had happened and tears no longer came so easily. Dia had experienced a range of intense emotions in particularly the past year and she had lost the ability to cry. This was all inconsequential when Dia thought of her present pain.
A glass was pushed into her hand and Dia gripped it tightly, lifting it slowly to her lips. Her eyes were still closed as she sipped and listened to Offley. Had she eaten something funny? If she had many other should be displaying many of the same symptoms. Wait, what are they? "Headache, of the blinding sort; disorientation, but that I can actually say disorientation should be a good sign; dizziness but no cause that I can think of." Thirsty. As she drank she realised how thirsty she was. She Drained her glass and for the first time she looked at Offley's worried face. "Is there more?" she asked softly.

Offley listened to the symptoms that the professor listed off and the librarians mind was turning as fast as if she was flicking through a large textbook she treasured. She was trying to work out what on earth could have caused this turn, although she was slightly alarmed how fast the professor downed the glass of water. Was she merely dehydrated, maybe it was merely a fever that would pass soon enough and they could both be on their way again. Offley was too caught up in her own thoughts that she did not hear the professor ask for another glass of water until the glass was thrust under her nose. Jumping out of shock of being snapped out of her own little world Offley shot the professor a smile and gladly took the glass and standing up once more went over the jug and poured Professor Owen another glass.
But as she did this a cruel smile spread across the librarians face as it slowly dawned on her what might be wrong. She had diagnosed it on many people before, Professor Owen was suffering from post Daniel Hubblesitis, basically a broken heart and the feeling that the man had treated you like a fool for the whole period you had been together. But there was a slight problem with this, and that was that Offley was still in love with Dan Hubbles and when it came to him she would do almost anything to try and wiggle her way back into his life and dismiss the feeling that she had ruined what they had had together and if it had not been for her own self belief in what Dan should do with his life then maybe they would still be together, married, with a family and away fro Hogwarts.
“Would you like me to send a student to fetch Daniel for you duck? I believe you two are together and I know he would want to be by your side at this time. He always did when I was ill. One time he even broke into the Ravenclaw common room so he could be by my bed side. He is a very decent man when he wants to be.”
Offley turned around replacing her vicious grin to a more caring one, the look she had before the one that showed that she wanted to help the poor professor.

Dia took shaggy breaths. Her hands were on her knees, her back arched like an angry cat and her head was bowed, eyes staring. She didn't like this feeling. She had felt a hint of relief from the water, the burning in her throat soothing a smidge, though it soon returned as Offley did. Dia, raising her head slightly and with much effort, took the glass from the librarian and began to drink. The cool soothed the burn but Dia was beginning to wonder if the burn was in her throat or her aching heart.
Dia brought the half emptied glass down, resting her hands in her lap clasping the glass tightly. "Thank yo..." she began before she realised what Offley was proposing. "Da...? Call Daniel? Oh no, no, please don't, I ... I couldn't handle that." She hung her head and felt tears welling up in her eyes. She blinked them away and looked back to the librarian's face. "You're a little behind the times, Offley," Dia informed the woman, "Da... Daniel and I are ... are no longer ..." Dia couldn't bring herself to say it so stopped her mouth by slowly sipping the remained of the water.

Offley watched on like a vulture tracking a wild animal as it took its last breaths, waiting for the moment it could swoop down and claim the kill and by the way Dia Owen was acting that moment was getting ever so closer. As she had expected the mere mention of the man caused her barriers to break down, the voice to waver and the tears start to sting in the eyes. Yes Offley had experienced this enough to know but she also knew how to stop it, she could throw Dia a life line to save her from the pain and heartache but the question was did she wanted to?
“Oh I am sorry duck I did not know. I guess by the way you are taking it he was the one who ended it?”
There would be no lifeline today. Offley knew all about the break up she had heard it from different sides and even from the horses mouth its self. She knew that it was Dia who had uttered those fateful words just like she had done eleven years ago, it seemed their situation was turning out to be the same and she would not save Dia from the pain as no one was there for her.
“Would you like further refreshment duck?”

Dia dropped the cup in her hands and flew to her face. She cupped her hands on her cheeks and pushed her elbows into her knees. She couldn't look at Offley, she couldn't stand to look or be seen by anyone. She simply couldn't handle that right then. And then Offley spoke and she felt even worse. She did not think it was intentional, Offley's words hurting her but they had and she did not want to lay that on her shoulders as she was being so nice and helpful. Her face still in her hands she shook her head.
At the question for more refreshments, Dia sniffed and squeezed the drops out of her eyes. They would not fall any other way. Wiping the drops away, Dia looked up and said, "please. More water and any firewhiskey if you have." She felt foolish, feeling everything she did for that man when he had hurt her so. Feeling anything for him and acting as she was felt foolish and stupid but she could not help it any more then she could breath.

Dia was unable to hold the librarians gaze and Offley allowed herself a small smile as she looked upon the broken hearted Dia Owen. It is here that is must be mentioned that Offley did feel some sympathy towards the Astronomy Professor, she two had been in a situation just like this where the memories of Dan Hubbles and the pain he caused where too much to bare and for that Offley was sorry to see another suffer. But as her mother always told her to look on the bright side of every situation and although she took pity on Dia the bright was that Dan was now single and she will make the most and try and win the love of her life back.
It was when the professor asked for something a little strong that Offley nodded her head and with a soft smile scurried off back to her office wanting to seem as helpful as she could. Even the tears that were falling fro the professors eyes did not deter the young Liberian as she knew the only fire whisky she had was in a silver hipflask and upon that hipflask was an engraving from the man himself.
To the love of my life…I shall be forever yours! Daniel Hubbles
Maybe it would be too cruel to bring this artefact out, but as Offley traced her fingers over the words a broad grin filling her face. She always wondered if Dan truly meant it when he wrote upon the hipflask and she still clung onto the hope that he would come back to her, but he seemed so caught upon Dia that she stood no chance. She even turned down the one chance she had to get back with Dan out of pride of not being his rebound girl, but now Offley would do anything to turn back the time and be with him again.
A determined look filled her Librarians face and with hipflask in hand she marched out of her office and headed back towards the aisle where the Professor was sitting, crouching down in front of her Offley once gain put on her soft smile and handed Dia a tissue and the hipflask.
“It is fire whisky duck, just like you requested. I am not the biggest drinker of alcoholic beverages myself so I hope it is to your taste…would you like it in a glass?”
