Most anyone who's heard of the little, partially human fight between Bradyn Reed and Erys Grace are shocked at the friendship they have now. Anyone with a lick of sense in their head wouldn't expect someone as arrogant as Bray to recover from such a mortal wound to his ego. Apparently, he has and the strange after-effect was their love-hate relationship. More like, I can stand you as long as your not being a prick, friendship, but one none-the-less. But at the roots, their friendship could be compared more easily to a peace treaty rather than actual human interaction. They were alright with each other as long as one of them didn't cross one of the invisible, metaphorical lines.
The one to cross such lines tended to be our lovable, but ignorant, Bradyn with his endless sarcasm. If you were close to him, you knew that he was always joking but in most comments there was a thread of truth and apparently in the fun he was poking at Miss Grace, she didn't like the concept being said at all and it was followed with her snapping at him. And, like the brave man he was, he fled. He was no fool, and 'fighting' her for a second time was not on his list of priorities. It was on the list of things to avoid at all cost, though, and certainly worth getting a weeks worth of exercise for.
One of the many gifts of being a similar animagi form of his rival was that he knew the secrets behind it. She could easily track him down by scent, and knowing this he also knew the precautions to take to avoid being caught by the beast for a while. It may have slowed his escape down a good bit, but Bray successfully took every path down the corridors that he knew and went in circles and purposely touched the occasional object to make his scent stronger. Even still, there were times when he could hear the sound of someone running behind him. But he was more concerned about someone following him that he couldn't hear.
As soon as he was satisfied with the invisible maze he'd left for his little friend, he went to the best place for something to disappear without being too much of a coward: the lawns. Big enough to hide in but still with a possibility of being found. By now he'd been running nonstop for a good fifteen minutes and there was a bit of stairs involved as well. His lungs were burning from the lack of proper breathing and coming out into the fresh air wasn't as helpful as it would be if he were walking. Bray needed to stop, and he needed to rest right now before he passed out.
Slowing his run to a jog, he quickly took note of what was around the lawns. Trees.. more trees.. a Tree, that was it! But not the kind that everyone knew of, a tree that only he'd get. Switching courses sharply to the left, he made his way towards the human troll who was busy doing something and not paying much attention. His landing wasn't spectacular, actually he'd had so much momentum that he had to slide like a baseball player and ended up landing hard on his ass. Painful, but not noticeable in comparison to how much he was begging to catch his breath.
Taking in slightly raspy and almost wheezy gasps for air, he scrambled back-to-back with Maxi and tried to get over the spots that were clouding his vision from the sudden stop to his marathon. As soon as he had a better control on his rapid breathing and his chest wasn't heaving so badly, Bray figured he owed some sort of explanation to the confused kid but all he managed to spit out was raspy and unclear. "Sh-shh.." Not the best first attempt so he gave himself a few more moments of recuperation before attempting to speak again.
"I'm not here."

Never really minding what he did, Max usually found himself wondering the castle or its grounds, though he found himself with the company of his brother most of the morning in the common room and surprisingly, it wasnt bad. The two managed to go a full morning without snipping at each other, shock horror. They even had a laugh, the world must have flipped on its head and Max must not have realised or something, either that or Jase was over himself. Standing up, he figured this situation was far too weird, he grabbed his robe which was hung lazily over the back of the couch and headed out.
The corridors were quite empty this time of day so he assumed everyone was outside enjoying the sunshine. Looking at his arm and giving a whimper seeing it starting to lose its tan, he figured he would go outside too and try to bronze himself up again. The corridors themselves were quite warm so his robe was flung over his shoulder, looking down as something furry brushed his leg, though seeming to see only a brown spotted tail run around the next bend, Max raised his eyebrows, people should know better than to let their pets out, they may get trampled on and then they would be sorry.
Walking down the steps to the main hall, Max took a peek inside the Great Hall, mostly empty, now would be a good time to eat something but honestly the boy wasnt hungry, so walking out onto the lawns, a slight breeze took his hair, which made him frown, it was common knowledge Max hated his hair out of place for he was very protective over his appearance, and unless it was the first thing in the morning you wouldnt see him looking scruffy. Weaving in and out of the crowds on the lawns, flinging the odd smile here and there, not really knowing who he was smiling at, Max found a nice spot in between a couple of trees, yet enough in the sunlight so he could actually catch some of the rays.
As Max sat down, placing his robe beside him, he barely had time to get himself comfy when someone flung themselves haphazardly down behind him, turning to look who it was he was a tad surprised, his eyes widened and his mouth dropped a little. "Bray what are--" Though he was cut off when the boy shh'd him. Max furrowed his brow, not really sure what was going on as Bray pushed his back against Max's as though he was hiding from someone or something. "You know, you could have fooled me there." Max shook his head but decided for his own safety, he would play along, last thing he would want was a load of nasty cat scars from Bray.
"Whats going on?" Max asked, "Who have you annoyed now?" Mainly he wanted to know who he was being a shield against.

Confused. Of course he was, any one would be. The situation didn't make any sense at all but at least Max wasn't freaked out and pushed him away. He would have had to find some place else to hide, and that probably wouldn't have a conveniently placed human shield. Trying to mentally piece together an explanation, he just put up his hand with one finger sticking up to tell him to hold his horses, not that he could see it since they were back-to-back. Taking a few moments to get over his sudden coughing fit, he suddenly felt much better after wards and the air he inhaled was no longer burning on the way down. Bray found it a pretty good sign that he was out of shape or asthmatic but that's something he'd deal with later.
Focusing on the questions, there were quite a few thrown at him all at once. What are you doing? What is going on? Who did you annoy? Instead of being sensible and answering his questions, Bray just groaned and turned his head a bit so he could see over Max's shoulder if he looked up. "Oh damn, you got me, I am here." He said with his eyes narrowed and an annoyed tone. It was just a bit more of a serious situation than that, otherwise he wouldn't have ran over here like the freaking devil was after him. After all, he always liked to keep his limbs still attached to his body like the rest of the population did.
Bray tended not to annoy people, he tended just to downright piss them off and ended up getting a few bruises as the solution to the problem. Leaning more heavily on Max, he just chuckled a bit while he mulled over the possibility of telling who he was running from. He certainly wouldn't flat out say Erys Grace, since she was quite the intimidating woman and he wasn't going to let his shield run off without him. Maybe he could leave some sort of hint? Chewing on his lower lip for a moment before rambling off the first thing that popped in his head while thinking about Erys. "The lioness." At least, he sure felt like prey to a lion, since they tended to run them down before killing them off. Except they didn't usually chase down their own kind, that would be... cannibalism? 'You need some more oxygen, Bray my boy, you're losing it again.' He thought before rolling his eyes.
"It's not like you were up to much, right? If you were, I'll have to find another tree to hide behind." He said, going back to his favorite nickname of choice for the lad. "And I don't think this is something you want to miss." Or the truth would be something more along the lines of, you're huge and intimidating so stick around a while.

Their conversation had turned to each of their own significant others, and then Bray had to go and ruin the serenity by saying, "Better keep a tighter rein on this one, hey? Wouldn't want another Joshua Rivas to happen." It was then after that Erys froze, slitted catlike eyes bulging as her mouth dropped open to reveal rapidly pointing teeth. "How.. How dare you." She hissed, claws ripping the skin around her fingernails and sharpening them into points. And the day had actually been pretty nice, save this sudden outrage that dared spew from the foolish Claw's mouth. She bolted upright, lashing out with a clawed hand at his face, and the other cat animagus then realised it wasn't a good idea to stick around. That he had screwed up big time, and she was going to make him pay for it. Obviously not a lot of people at Hogwarts realised what a hard time she had getting over it, with her boyfriend and her best friend up and leaving her with no word at all. She was left with nothing, no one, for half a year. She looked gaunt, skeletal even, when she finally got her strength back.
And Bray had to go and make a joke out of it. He sensibly darted off, and Erys was quick on his tail, but he managed to lose her after taking various alternate routes throughout the school. Clever boy. She thought with an outward sneer, particularily muddled as his scent trails crisscrossed and overlapped, hanging thickly--confusingly--in the air. If he weren't like her in the sense of their 'talents' so to speak, she would have caught him easily and shredded his face. But since they were on the same ground here, the only advantages against him being she was older and had more brawling experiance not to mention a flaming temper that came in handy at times, he wouldn't be so easy to startle. Hopefully he'd wet himself from the fear and the appearance and smell of urine would paint a pretty yellow trail his way.
After the older scent trails faded she was left with a fresh one leading outside, and as the Slytherin burst out of the doors she transformed mid-leap, landing on large padded paws as she thundered after him. Students actually launched themselves out of the way as she tore past, hissing and whipping out at them with her claws, as she fell into her quarry's footsteps. What she encountered though was Hennerdale, sitting on a rock, and her disappointed yowl was unmistakable before she changed back. Crossing her arms over her chest she sniffed the air again, arching an eyebrow at the Gryffindork. "Seen fleabag anywhere?" She asked him with narrowed eyes, fingernails still curved into claws as they drummed against her crossed arms. Maybe she should refrase it for him. Furball? Scaredy cat? More like dead meat. Her face was calm, collected, and she added, "He forgot his Potions essay in the library and seeing as its due today I thought I'd pay him a visit and return it." Sounded like a legit enough excuse.
Waiting for him to pop out from behind Maxi--she obviously knew he was hiding there--the Slytherin arched an eyebrow again. Waiting for her wrath to begin.

Shaking his head, Max figured he wouldnt actually get a straight answer from Bray. He rarely did which usually meant trouble for the blonde. He couldnt help but wonder what sort of trouble squirt had gotten himself into now, no doubt he would find out soon though, he usually did. Something was obviously bugging the kittyboy, but as long as it didnt involve him directly he didnt mind Bray hiding behind him, besides it would be bad if Max just let Bray get hurt, then he'd have Fay to deal with and that was one scary female when she was mad.
"Well as long as this lioness doesnt stick its claws in me, then fine." Max only wanted to get a bit of sun, preferably fur free but still, least it was proving to be rather interesting. Craning his neck to look at Bray, well as best as he could, only really being able to see a bit of his brown hair. The Gryffindor still wasnt sure what was going on and he doubted he would find out just yet, however Max had figured he was hiding from someone he must had annoyed, not finding himself surprised, Max smiled as he turned back around and kept his eyes out for anyone making their way over here in a rather annoyed fashion, but like him, everyone seemed to be relaxing.
"True," Max said scratching his nose, "Well it might help if I knew what you had done. I would prefer to know who your using me to shield you against." If it was some psycho then Max would have ran by now, dragging squirt by the back of his neck and telling him that he was crazy for annoying whatever person he had annoyed. Though, the fact it might be Erys he annoyed never even crossed the blonde boys mind, if he had, then maybe he wouldnt still be sat here with Brays back pressed against his, strange really. Max was usually, well no he was never careful so that wouldnt be right.
Max's eyes darted up when he saw people jumping out of the way, seeing a bengal cat heading right for them, Max quickly said, "Its not Erys you've annoyed is it!?" Though his question was soon answered when a fully grown Slytherin was stood infront of him looking rather annoyed. Max was staying calm, his eyebrow slightly raised as she asked him if he'd seen Bray. "Fleabag?" He questioned, "Oh, you dont mean squirt do you?" Putting his hand up he continued, "Bout yay big? Brown hair?" Shaking his head Max smiled, "Cant say I have, though if I do, I'll be sure to let him know about that potions essay and have him look for you."
The Potions excuse didnt fly with him, for he knew Bray was hiding from her for a reason and Max wasnt about to sell him out. Leastways not yet.

At least, for the moment, Max decided he wasn't going to get much more information out of him so he could focus on what was going on around him and hopefully see his death coming. The tree could be his eyes and he could be the much more effective ears. Closing his eyes for a moment, he focused on the surroundings while trying to use his enhanced hearing that he rarely used, after all, it always made him feel like some sort of peeping tom if he could listen in on people whispering. But it did have it's advantages for situations like this. It didn't take long before the sound of the old wooden doors being slammed against the castle walls hit his ears and he grunted with annoyance. There was the little chance that it wasn't her, just some aggressive student trying to act tough by nearly tearing the door off it's hinges, though. Not that he really believed that load of rubbish.
"What, you don't want to be shredded yet in your lifetime? Huh." He asked, needing to throw in one last sarcastic comment before he was killed off by Erys. At least, that's how he wanted to go down, still rambling off his nonsense. But he shushed himself and returned to listening as the sound of people's shuffling got louder with sounds of complaint that were only interrupted by the sound of a vicious hiss. That could only be one person. 'Damn!' Bray thought, instantly stiffening against Max's back as he opened his eyes and quickly got used to the light again. Obviously his shield recognized the animagi and didn't sound too pleased at his choice of enemies. At least he didn't tell him who it was, the big brave Gryffindor might have high-tailed it out there. "Eh...heh, no only someone who was completely mad would do that." And apparently, that someone was him. He just couldn't learn, could he?
Sliding down a little lower to make sure he couldn't be seen, it only just occurred to him that his scent would be a sure sign of him being there. Or, at very least, that he was there only a moment ago. 'God damn it, this crazy cat woman is really too much trouble.' He thought as her scent hit him like a sac of potatoes, making him wince. She was here, and she had tracked him down when he was sure he had more time than this. Now she was going to cut him up then skip off to study like the lunatic she was. Should he start saying a prayer, or maybe leave his guitar to Fay? 'Fleabag!?' He thought even through his mild panic attack while rolling his eyes, that was just insulting. After all, if he had nasty fleas he'd do something about them but not before giving some to the queen bitch as a belated christmas present.
He would have moved into a position where he could defend himself better if he wasn't so afraid that his sudden movement would set her off. She was like some odd, wild animal that didn't belong in this school. 'Squirt? Why are you picking on me now of all moments?' He thought irritably before elbowing Max in the back, which wasn't the smartest idea when the lad was going to protect him from a psychopath. But, then again, if he couldn't make any comments back he just had to use more medieval methods to get his message across. Plus he could always tell him that he was trying to tell him how much of a load of crap it was that she had his 'essay'. It was like she thought he was a moron, and Bray would probably rather write up another ten essays than go see her right now. But it was obvious she knew he was there, and still she wasn't making her move. Was she expecting him to just pop up and lunge at her or something? Yeah, right, he was staying right here.
After all, Bray was officially a dead man.

"Cant say I have, though if I do, I'll be sure to let him know about that potions essay and have him look for you." "You're a rotten liar." Erys retorted back with a small grin, though it was quite the exhasperated expression. So it appeared he was going to continue and sheild his friend. Admirable and brave of him, but terribly foolish. Rolling her eyes the Slytherin took a step forward. "Look, Hennerdale, I know hes behind you. You might as well move or get caught in the crossfire." She narrowed her eyes with a smirk, "Take your pick." Erys didn't care either way, so long as she got to tear a chunk out of fleabag. Peering over Maxi's shoulder, she coo'd, "Here kitty, kitty, kitty. I just want to talk to you." in a high, drawling voice. Within a split second she was around the Gryffindor and towering above the crouched Bray, triumph glittering in her eyes as she noticed his shrunken body pressing nervously against his friend's for protection. "So lets talk." She snarled through gritted teeth, whipping her hand out to snatch a handful of his shirt and hoist him up. "You hadn't enough the last time?" She'd happily hand his ass to him if he wanted more, no problems with that.
Assuming she had grabbed his shirt successfully, the Slytherin would toss him away from Hennerdale and to the ground, laughing as she did so. "Really, we were having such a nice conversation.." She tutted with a small frown. "Then you had to go and ruin it." Though she couldn't say she minded the brutal pounding she was about to unleash on the quivering heap of Claw that sat before her. "So yeah, not sure if you wanted to watch or not." Erys said to Hennerdale with a grin, turning back to look at Bray with a steely glint in her emerald eyes.
And without warning she leaped at him, still human but her claws were out, her pupils slitted, and her teeth fangs; her aim to tackle and basically straddle him while digging her claws into his chest. "How does it feel, kitty?" Erys snarled.

Of course she didn't believe what he said for a moment, but how could she when she had such indisputable evidence that Bray was really right behind him? The only way for him to have clogged that sense would be for him to douse himself in some other, more vile scent and there was no way in hell that that would ever happen. Jaw clenching into a scowl, he realized that he was running out of time and that he needed to start thinking of his plan as soon as possible. The lioness was only going to stand there and stare down her prey for so long before she got tired of waiting, after all.
Her little taunts, or maybe it was seductive nonsense, only interrupted his train of thought and he quickly retorted with a hiss of his own. If she was trying to tick him off, continuing with the kitty comments, or the short ones certainly was going to work. But he only saw a flash before suddenly she was looming over him with a malevolent look, almost as if she was enjoying the calm before the storm. 'Damn, this is not good.' He thought frustratedly and put up his hands defensively as if that would calm her down. Talking wasn't something that was going to really work here, but he sure as hell was going to keep her talking as long as he could. Being suddenly lifted up, there was an uncomfortable grunt before he moved his hands to try and pry her off of him but she'd already dug into his shirt with her claws. Shame, he liked that shirt too.
Bray resisted the urge to roll his eyes as she just toyed with him. Really, what was he a five-year-old now? "Do you always go around embarrassing yourself like that, saying your not satisfying enough the first time?" He said, though it was sure to rile her up more. Not the smartest plan considering who he was dealing with, but all he needed was to keep her human as long as possible since there he seemed to have an edge over her, that is, his ability with words. It got him in this mess and it was sure to get him out. Maybe. Landing roughly with an oomph, it took him a moment to realize that she was gloating to Max about her kill already. 'Now, now, Grace, you don't know how this will play out.' He wasn't going to go down so easily twice.
"Ruin it? Don't you like to hear the truth, Grace? I was only trying to be... helpful." He said maliciously, letting his hot-head get the best of him as it always seemed to do. Pupils narrowing into the dangerous slits of cats, they only differed in Erys by color. When her's where emerald, his were a vibrant blue. Must be their sadistic form of house pride. Bray grunted in discomfort as she landed on him with no attempt at being careful and was just thankful she didn't land there, it would be an unfair advantage if she knocked the wind out of him that way. Instead he just grabbed her wrists roughly and tried to push them away from him with the hopes of digging his own claws into her arm. She wasn't going to slice him up just yet.
"I'm feeling lovely, you?" He said through a clenched jaw while still struggling against her arms.

"Well being shredded isnt really on my to-do list." Max answered Bray, noticing in their time apart how Bray seemed to have become even more sarcastic, if that was even possible. Max decided to leave being shredded and doing shredding upto Bray, afterall, he was the one with the claws, Max couldnt even claim to have fingernails due to them being so short, so what use was that? Looking at Bray, well trying to but craining his neck was proving to be difficult. "Well you are completly mad so you kinda qualify" It seemed as though, for once, Max was right as Erys seemed to just appear infront of him, knocking Max off his game for a brief moment.
"Really?" Max asked Erys and tilted his head to the side, "I was always told I was a pretty damned good liar." Though of course a Slytherin could see through it, they are masters of that kind of thing afterall. Looking up at her, Max shrugged and didnt move. He would not be seen as a coward, besides, he had come across seemingly worse things than cats with sharp claws. "Sorry Grace," Max said and folded his arms, "Im not a coward, and Im not going to start acting like one so why dont you just--" Before Max could finish what he was saying, Erys was behind him and had hold of Bray. "Crud." Max mumbled as he watched for a moment trying to figure out what had actually happened, the only thing Max could think of was that he had insulted Erys. Which was stupid.
Max gawped open mouthed as she sunk her claws into him, how on earth does Ricky cope with her? No wonder he has millions of scars already. Poor bloke. As Erys was taunting him, Bray seemed to be nervous but in all honesty, Max couldnt tell. "Watch you tear my friend apart?" Max said, finally realising he had a tongue again, "I dont think so." Why on earth was Bray taunting her? Didnt he know that would make her skin him alive or something worse? Sometimes Max couldnt help but wonder if Bray had a brain, or a pea.
"Okay," Max said, "Enough children" Putting his arms around Erys' waist he pulled at her, knowing full well this wasnt the best plan he could have come up with but he had to get Erys off someway, and if this didnt work, he would tickle her, if that didnt work. He would shoot a blast of water at her. He would find some way of getting her off Bray, even if he had to go and find Fay. Which, now thinking on it, wasnt a bad idea, but instead, he just pulled at the female, who wasnt really that heavy. Max didnt know if he was surprised or not by this.

"Do you always go around embarrassing yourself like that, saying your not satisfying enough the first time?" At this Erys smirked. "Embarrass myself? I don't give a lick what other people think of me. Surely you knew that." As he egged her on a dark look shadowed her face, and as he grabbed her wrists and shoved his claws into her skin she did the same, only it wasn't as clean a wound as she had to twist her fingers a bit to reach for it. Throwing her head back with a laugh at the feeling lovely part Erys smirked, both still struggling at the other's arms. "I haven't felt this good since Hanzel used an unforgivable curse on your girlfriend." She laughed, a cold, evil sound, and it echoed as the wind whirled around them. As claws tore through her shoes she glanced down at them with surprise, and a wicked grin stretched her lips. Lifting up with a leg and lashing out at him with it the Slytherin used the distraction to try and tear her wrists free and go for his face. He would learn to keep his big mouth shut, or he'd lose both eyes for it.
Suddenly she was pried away from him by unseen hands around her waist and Erys hissed in surprise, struggling against Max's grip as he threatened to remove her from her prey. A string of inhuman sounds gurgled from her throat, and she started to change into her cat form, easily slipping through the Gryffindor's arms as she was much smaller now. As her paws met the grass Erys shot off to the side, leaving enough space for momentum before she propelled herself at Bray, launching off the ground and aiming to latch herself onto his face. She wasn't kidding around with this, she was out for blood. Yowling loudly, a battle cry of sorts, the Slytherin only wished Ricky was here to watch.

Apparently being shredded was all that Bray was going to accomplish today, even if it was something he'd rather avoid. Narrowing his eyes again and hissing at her, more from the strain that their struggle was putting on his chest and difficulty breathing than actual anger. He'd try to play it cool and rile her up until she blew her top and he could outsmart her. "Really? I seriously doubt that, I mean, what if I went around saying that you were actually a half blood and your mother married a filthy, idiotic muggle." He said rather monotone since it would be the only way he could manage to say it without sounding sarcastic. It was low and lacking his usual cleverness, but worst of all he had actually stooped to her Slytherin level for the moment.
Keeping himself calm was how he hoped this would work out, but it seemed that it wouldn't go that way since she had to bring out her inhuman level of cruelty that shocked him a bit. He didn't quite understand what she'd said, but 'girlfriend' and 'unforgivable curse' was certainly enough to catch his attention. It even made him forget that he was trying to fend off her claws and the sudden pause in his fighting let her claws rip deeper into his flesh. A surprised gasp of pain brought him back to reality and he quickly pushed back harder against her, hands moving up from her wrists towards her shoulders in the hopes of getting her off him period instead of just her claws out of his guts. "Glad you're having such a blast." He hissed before pushing against her with more force only to stop as a pain trailed down his leg.
Damn, that bitch! This was not looking good for him at the moment but his odds were much better this way rather than him changing. Ery's form was stronger than his, and a little bit of time wasn't going to fix that. Even human, or partially so, she was a bit stronger than him but he would outwit her in time. Bray's grip on her arms flexed for a moment from the shock of her latest attack, but that was one moment that she took to her advantage and managed to slip from his grip, but not without passing between his claws. And like the evil snake she was, she went straight for the face and he managed to dodge it enough so that it only clipped him on the cheek but still quite enough that he felt hot blood on his face. "Ugh, aren't you charming." He growled but by the time he looked back towards her, she was being lifted away. Finally, he was starting to think that Tree enjoyed seeing him getting sliced up.
But then things turned bad again for him as she changed fully into her sleek cat form. 'Damn it all, I was trying to keep that from happening!' A cat fight was not what he wanted, his form still had a torn ear from the last time their brawled and soon it was going to start looking like a stray. "Here, kitty, kitty!" Bray taunted with his tongue stuck out immaturely, and sure as hell she came. But now she was a cat, and he was Bray, quite superior. It wasn't hard to him to roll a bit to miss her attack but he needed to get up soon so she wouldn't be able to retaliate from the ground. Lurching painfully to his feet only to realize that the muscle in his leg had numbed itself, he grunted a bit before wiping the blood off his cheek with the back of his hand. Too familiar of a gesture, she sure did insist on beating on him a lot. Bray sent a quick glance to Max before whipping out his wand and aiming it at the snarling beast.
"Now, now, kitty. We aren't going to play that game now. Change back, before I do it for you."
{ wrote this while I was half asleep.. so, yeah, it's garbage. i'll reread it and fix it tomorrow. }
