Why was it, this time a month ago when Max didnt want to see her, he could find her easily. Though the time he did want to see her, to let he know he was back, he couldnt find her? Bloody typical if you ask me. Though the smile that was on his face didnt change as he walked through the corridors, people had commented on how he had come back a different person, and he didnt even feel any resentment for Jase, though that one might change if Max saw him, he didnt know.
So, on a warm day, where would Miss McLane be? Somewhere to bask in the sun no doubt.
So with that on board, Max made his way outside. The sun was bright and high in the sky as people lolled about in the courtyard, this making Max smile obviously. He was seeing things in different perspectives now he had managed to have some time to himself. He crossed the courtyard playfully kicking Alex as he walked past, who grabbed his leg and nearly made him fall over. As usual, he was with Girty.
"Have you seen Laney?" Max asked Alex who smirked, "Yeah, she's on the lawns down there I think, or she was the last time I saw her" Pointing in the direction Max was already heading in, "So Hennerdale, you straight now?" Maxi just smirked, "Like a bendy ruler mate." Winking at Girty playfully, "Thanks for showing me what I was missing" He stuck his tongue out at her.
With that, Alex laughed, Alex wasnt exactly what Max would call a close friend, but they were friendly with eachother. Smiling to Girty as he left, Max made his way down to the lawns. He couldnt help the smile on his face as he thought about seeing the blonde girl again. He hadnt seen her in little over a month and in truth, he had missed her. Spotting her blonde head, (which like Max wasnt hard to miss) he walked behind her, she was sat down, so Max sat behind her, putting both his legs either side of her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder.
"Hey" He cooned softly.

A month or so had passed since the last time Laney had seen Max and of course, she had missed him. She had found a way to preoccupy her days without him. She either spent them in the Library studying or with Ash and Cristian, though the latter one she did rarely for the sight of the two together made her heart ache for just a hug from the tall blonde. She understood that Maxi needed time to himself and even thought the time away would be good for her as well; and it was. Laney was a different person, yet the same girl.
The day happened to be a warm one so of course, the blonde could be found outside on the lawns with a book in hand. She was relieved when she found it was a sunny day, that meant not spending it inside as Ash flashed his fancy ring in Laney's face. How the two could move so fast was beyond her but as long as her brother was happy, she couldn't complain. This meant that she was free to do what she wanted without the protective eyes of Ashton.
Carolanne felt a body behind her and saw legs emerge in front of her. When arms wrapped around her waist, she couldn't help but grin. Then his head was on her shoulder and his voice was ringing in her ear. She turned her head just enough to verify it was really him, "Hiya Stranger," she said softly, letting the book fall out of her grasps as her hands covered his. Lane let her body rest against Maxi's as she tilted her head slightly, "I take it you had a good vacation then," she said with a smirk.

Maxi interlaced his fingers with hers and sat there for a moment with his eyes closed, breathing in the scent of the perfume she was wearing and the smell of her hair. This was all new to him, being with a girl and yet it felt right. Like he had been waiting for this, Mark always told him someone would come and surprise him, but he never thought it would be a girl, least of all, Laney. Though he was glad it was Laney.
"Yeah I did," Max smiled, "A well needed one too, cleared my head and allowed me to think straight." He gave a small sigh, "Close your eyes..."
Maxi let go of one of her hands and reached into his jacket pocket. Pulling out a small box, the box was made of suade as he placed it into her hands. Inside was a silver necklace with a heart pendant on it. If you opened the heart picture, Maxi had placed inside it a picture of himself and Laney that was taken during the Christmas break last year. He had seen it and instantly thought of Laney, which his sister thought was amazing considering he was buying jewelerry for a girl.
"I saw it and thought of you."

Carolanne sat there in silence with Maxi for a while as she stared out in front of her. He seemed a bit different, or the same, she couldn't tell. He was definitely different than the Max that left for Vacation but was the same Maxi before everything happened. At least he seemed happier and with that knowledge she grinned.
As she was told, she closed her eyes, "What's this about?" She was curious, but what person wouldn't be? She felt one of Maxi's hands leave hers and she raised one of her eyebrows slightly trying to figure out what he was doing. Something was placed in her hand and she smiled. Could she open her eyes now?
Laney was looking at a box in her hand. Smiling, she pulled her other hand out of Max's so she could open it. What she was staring at now was not what she was expecting in the least bit. It was georgous, she had to admit and it was silver, the only kind of jewelery she wore. "Maxi, it's Beautiful," she said taking the necklace out of the box.
Examining it further, she turned the heart pendant over in her hands before opening it. Inside was a picture of the two and Laney had to laugh at the expression on her face. How a year can change you. "I love it, thank you," she told him. Lane turned to Max and handed him the necklace, "Would you help me put it on?" she asked. It would probably be easier for him seeing as he was behind her already and all she would have to do was keep her hair out of his way.

"Do you like it?"
To be honest, as Rieko had pointed out, Max wasnt one for buying anyone jewellery, especially a girl who was not in his family, though in a way, Laney was as good as. He smiled when she said it was beautiful and let out a breath he didnt even know he was holding. Why this, no, why she made him such a nervous wreck he would never know. Though he knew this feeling was right now, he had over a month to think about it and she never once left his head. He had spoken to Rieko about it, and her reply was simple, yet wise, "If she's in your head like you say she is, Maybe it is not wrong, Maybe she is supposed to be there" Sometimes Max thought that girl should have been a Ravenclaw. Though all his family were Dor's and he doubted that would ever change.
"Of course I will."
Max smiled and clasped hold of the chain, putting it around her neck as she held onto her hair he clasped it at the back and let go. The silver went with her skin perfectly, then again, everything went with Lane. He kissed her neck gently before she let her hair back down. Max wasnt perfect, he wouldnt be the perfect boyfriend, they would argue, they would fall out. It happens in relationships, but he would always be there when she needed him and that was all that mattered.
"How's life at Hogwarts been while I've been gone?"

Things between Maxi and Laney would never be perfect and Lane accepted that. They're beginning wasn't exactly normal and even a little awkward to be honest. You kiss in the forest and get caught, avoid eachother for weeks, have the most awkward reuniting meet ever then decide to make it official only to have one half go off on vacation for a month. Perfect? Far from it. It was things like that, though that made them unique as a couple.
She held up her hair as Max clasped the necklace around her neck; the silver heart cold against her chest. Carolanne smiled when she felt Max's lips press against her neck and closed her eyes for a moment. Sometimes Max could be the sweetest guy you've met and at other times, he's your worse enemy. Laney and Max argued all the time, even before they started seeing eachother. It was their way of getting along, or so Lane would say. Lane wasn't the greatest either. Sometime's she'd pick a fight just for the hell of it only to see someone else suffer instead of herself. Personality quirks; everyone had them.
"Non-existent?" Carolanne couldn't help but laugh a little. "Well, life at Hogwarts while you were gone consisted of studying and avoiding Mr. Cloud Nine otherwise known as Ashton." Carolanne turned her head in Maxi's direction with raised eyebrows, "Have you heard that Ash and Cris are engaged now? Apparently its true. I get the bloody ring shoved in my face everytime I see him." She faced foward and picked up her book once more, "I told him it was a ringpop and that he supposed to eat it. 'Course, I received a glare in return. Typical."
Flipping back to the page she was on before Maxi had come and surprised her, she leaned back against him once more. "And how, might I ask, was life away from Hogwarts?" She had to ask. He asked what it was like without him so now she was asking what it was like without her.

He wouldnt say anything like they were meant to be, because in all honesty this kind of relationship was probably breaking all the rules in the normal world. Though they werent in the normal world were they? The ex with the sister, it was a strange mix. Max wouldnt be thick headed enough to say they would last forever either, forever is a long time and anything could happen between now and then, but all that mattered was the now. Speakingof which, he needed to see Fay, he wanted to thank her for everything she had done.
He tried to be the best he could be, but it didnt always work. Yes he could be sweet, yes he could be, well not so sweet but everyone was like that. It all depended on what mood you got them in, their first kiss, Laney had wound Max up to the point he nearly boiled, but she kept on insisting. Eventually the only way he could get his anger out without killing or hurting her was to kiss her rather violently, and that was exactly what he did. Not that it mattered, Laney loved arguing with Max, she liked to argue just so they could make up. Strange really, but Max never complained.
"You've been avoiding Ash again?" Maxi asked as his eyebrow raised, he thought everything had been sorted out between Laney and Ash, "Whatever for?"
Though soon enough, the answer to his question was soon to be given. Max would be lying if he said he wasnt a little jelous. He felt both a pang of jelousy mixed with pure heated anger and found himself wondering how Fay took it, would she have been little miss friendship again for the Claw? Or would she have told him which stop to get off at. Max and Lane werent any better, but it had taken them time to realise, hell, a long time, and Max still had feelings for Ash, Laney knew that, Fay knew that, hell even Bray did. Though not enough to make another go of things.
"They're what?" Max asked, his pale blue eyes flicking with a small hint of anger, "Talk about running before you learn to crawl, whose not so clever idea was this?" Max shook his head, it was none of his business, though he found it hard to believe Ash had still been pining for him when Max left, and now he was engaged. "You'll be telling me they're planning bloody kids next."
Okay, so you could tell Max wasnt too happy about this as he shifted his weight, but he had plenty of time to worry about that, right now he was concentrating on Lane. He had a lot to do before he settled back in, going to see Fay and Bray for one. He was going to try and talk to them like the adults they were meant to be. Though Fay might talk to him civially, he wondered about Bray, everyone knew that claw had a firery temper.
"To be honest it was amazing," He told her, "Just what I needed to clear my head and think straight for once." He had been gone for over a month so nobody could say that the two hadnt had time to think about things, Maxi had done nothing but think, and eventually realised he did want Laney in his life. He wanted his friends back, he wanted himself back, "The lights in New York at night are amazing, though cant say the same for the day life, busy streets and what not. We were only there for a week, spent the rest in the Caribbean. Did you get my letters?"
