He figured nobody would know really what kind of sadness lay behind those blue eyes of hers, as his amber ones met her blue ones. Two completly different colours, different shades. He let his eyes fall back down to the grass, he wouldnt say he understood what she was going through, how could he? Though he figured what it must be like not to be able to voice your feelings and make yourself heard, and though he knew there was nothing he could do, it didnt mean he couldnt be around when and if she needed a friend. He tried to contain his emotions a lot of the time, tried to hide it, mask it. Though in cases like these, Leo's strength severly failed him.
"I know there wasnt..." Leo looked at her, still having her hand in his, "But it doesnt mean I cant have a little hope for you, does it?"
He wasnt lying, he did want to have hope for her, he did have and he believed one day she would speak again. It may be an hour from now, or fifty years from now. Her last breath could be the time she uttered a single word. Though he knew one day she would, Leo had to believe in people, if he didnt there wasnt much point trying to do anything. He gave a soft sigh, his mind could be a deep place to be in sometimes, his thoughts surprised even him. Maybe it was because he was smart, or maybe he just wanted to be strong for people, he didnt want them to feel like their hope had gone.
"Its alright," He smiled with a little nod at her thankyou. He figured she needed someone around and Leo would be that friend to her if she wanted him to be. He didnt mind that she was a mute, it was the person inside that mattered, not the outside. "Anytime"
