Bijou strolled down along the lawns grazing at the people who were also occupying the vast space. They all seemed happy, in tows or more chatting away. It was a happy site to behold as it seemed that this was what school life had been made to be. Bijou moved off going further away from some of the larger groups and sat down near one of the border trees, staring out at the lake, its deep waters sparkling in the late afternoon sun. Bijou let out a sigh and lay back against the trees cool bark, ready to take in the sun. She had yet to make any acquaintances so she was alone and that was certain. As that thought dawned on her she frowned, why had she been so unable to talk to people? And how had she managed to go through all this time without talking to anyone but her teachers, whom she did find to be quite pleasant, but still were not what you would call proper friends as it was their duty to care for the student. Her thoughts began to darken as she thought that the reason she was friend-less was due to her stand-offish nature. With a further sigh she let one tear roll down her cheek. This was not what she had wanted.

It was a beautiful day as the sun was shining and there were few clouds in the sky. Days like these were rare but Jac's pale skin didn't like it as much as she did. So Jac kept to the shade of the trees and watched kids swim and splash each other or else just lay about and laugh and have fun. Jac was generally one of those people but today she was a watcher, she enjoyed watching them have fun because that was fun for her. She wasn't really concentrating on them though as she had received another book from her brother, The Inner Lives of the Irish Phoenix and she found it fascinating.
Someone boomed into the water, splashing water everywhere and splashing Jac. Her head jerked up, hair flaming red, and she glared over at the people by the water. Taking her sleeve she dabbed her book as it had gotten wet too before standing up and walking along, looking for somewhere better to sit.
When she came across a fellow Gryff, Jac went and stood so that her shadow was cast over the girl's face. "May I join you?" Jac asked politely. She wasn't usually this nice but something about the weather and how the sun really wasn't good for her must have affected her after all.

Startled Bijou looked up suddenly to see a fellow Gryffandor standing above her. How long had she been there? Bijou sent out a silent prayer that the girl standing over her had not just seen the tear.
"Sure pull up some grass," she offered in answer to the other girls question, still a bit weary that she might have been caught off guard having just had a small emotional moment. Bijou attempted a smile at the other girl before asking companionably, "What's your name? I'm Bijou."

Jac giggled as it was suggested to her to 'pull up some grass'. It was so funny Jac hardly noticed the girls forlorn expression. She moved the big book from beneath one arm to the other before sitting down in the shade of the tree Bijou was under. It was cool beneath the branches and refreshing from the hot sun. Crossing her legs, Jac put her book on her lap and absently tucked her skirt under her bottom. She watched a couple of fourth years were splashing each other with water and laughing.
"Couldn't do that myself," she commented absently, "the sun kills me if I'm in it too long." She looked back to the sad girl with a broad smile as though it was a joke. "Name's Jac. Pleasure to meet you, Bi. Don't mind if I call ya Bi, do you?" Jac shifted as she was sitting a little so she could look at Bijou better. She smiled at her widely and proudly. "Lovely day today, isn't it?" she pointed out.

Bijou smiled back at Jac,"Absolutely, to nice to be stuck in the castle," she answered, curious as to why the sun had such an afect on her, she didn't look different, and if the water seemed so appealing then why not swim? "I don't mind at all if you call me Bi, I much prefer it to my name,"Bijou answered again with a smile. Mood swings much, she thought to herself as she felt the smile stay on her face. "So may I ask what you are reading? that is one heavy looking book," she asked happily, noticing the book cradled in Jac's lap.

Jac laughed. The castle she spent so much time in had always been her home away from home yet it got a bit stuffy at times, not because of the weather but because of the people. Spending so much of your time constantly around people does tend to mess with your psyche or at least it did with Jac and so she spent as much time as she could out of doors but out of the sun as she had sensitive skin. This was a joke as being a metomorphmagus she could change that but she didn't like to as she liked to keep as much of herself on the outside as possible.
She liked to give people nicknames as it always was a fun activity to pass rainy days. Today was not rainy so it was a quick 'I'll call you this' and that was the end of that. She looked down at the book on her lap and smiled. "Yeah," she mused, "a bit heavy for what it is. It's a Care of Magical Creatures book, on Irish Phoenixes. My brother writes 'em and loves to send me a copy of each of his books. Some time I'll show you my collection."
She lifted the book and passed it to Bijou. "See the picture, my brother's fiancé drew it. She does all the illustrations for his work." As she spoke of Kelly, she scowled a little. Jac had always felt that Kelly was stupid and how she got Ed to propose to her was one of the biggest questions to Jac's mind about their relationship.
