Since the news about Cristian and Ashton becoming a couple had found its way to the young Ravenclaw's ears, she found it harder and harder to sleep as the days went by. She made an effort to stay away from the Common Room until everyone was sleeping and would leave before anyone was awake. As the nights grew colder, Laney decided to spend her rather long evenings in the Kitchens instead of wandering around Hogsmeade.
As she walked in tonight, the house elves welcomed her and fixed her up a plate of cookies. She sat down on a table and pulled out a notebook. Carolanne would sketch a different house elf every night making a total of six sketches so far. Tonight would be the seventh.
Drawing was the only thing that got her mind off everything at the moment. Made her concentrate on the object before her rather than Max or Ash or even Cris. Her distraction tonight was a small female house elf named Sparkle.

It was getting late, and Cristian had missed dinner due to finishing some homework. His stomach was rumbling and he couldn't put it off any longer, so he made his way to the Kitchens. Opening the door, he saw the back of a blonde head, Laney's to be exact. A lump rose in his throat, and he decided to walk in and chat with her. It was going to be hard, but it had to be done. He sat down to the side of her and looked at what she was doing, before looking back up and her, and giving a slight smile. "Hey, so this is where you've been hiding?" he asked.

She had just finished the outline of the little elf's head when she heard a voice come from beside her. She turned her head to see Cristian, immediately making her jump. Smacking his arm, she scowled, "Dammit, Cris! Give a girl a warning next time," she said shutting her book rather quickly.
It had been a while since they've seen each other and it wasn't really a memorable meeting either. Laney dreaded the moment they'd meet again, and here it was. Just when you think you're safe, Laney, it all comes flooding back. Hate it, don't you? Oh shut up.
With a slight nod, she turned to Cris, "Yeah, well, for the past week at least. The nights in Hogsmeade are growing colder. Afraid I'd start developing frost bite or something for staying out so long," she answered. So he had noticed she was avoiding the common room, or just him and Ash in general. "How's Ash."

Cris looked at her a little sympathetically when he found out she had been in Hogsmeade, freezing, all this time. "He's alright" he said simply, not knowing what else to say on the subject. He'd been trying his hardest to forget about the whole situation, especially Laney, but as he looked at her, she was still as cute as hell. He paused for a moment before continuing, trying to not jumble the words up in his head so it came out as a riddle. "Look...I don't want there to be a rift between us all. I would rather of you just told me you weren't happy though Lane, you know that. Truce?" he said, putting his hand infront of her, and smiling friendly, a difference from the last time she saw him, looking a mess in the Forest. Since then, he'd cut his hair shorter and smartened up a little in his clothing.

Laney sighed, "That's good," she stated as she stared down at the cover of her notebook. At least they were happy together, something they both needed. Biting down on her lip she looked up and stared at the wall opposite her.
"I should've. You're right. But I honestly didn't mean for that to happen. I only went into the forest to think," she explained, turning to Cris. "I had all intentions on telling you I wasn't happy, I swear it just made it hard. I think it might've been you talking about the future when I barely think ahead a minute in time. It scared me..."
Looking at his hand, she sighed, "Truce, I suppose," she muttered as she grabbed his hand and shook it. Taking hers away rather quickly, she stared at the cover of the notebook again. "You look pretty good. You and Ash happy?" she asked.

"Things are going okay" he said, rubbing the back of his neck. He didn't feel comfortable enough with her again yet to talk about that. "I'm sorry, but, You know, I felt a little hopeless. I've not had a very good past, and so I wanted to set everything up for the future so I could be happy for once" he explained. Truth was, he felt so alone, and it could of been anyone he talked to about it, but he chose her.

Carolanne nodded, no expression on her face, "That's good. I'm happy for you guys," she told the boy.
Laney turned toward him and noticed the change in body language and decided not to discuss the forest any further. It was making him uncomfortable and Laney didn't blame him. Laney sighed and looked away, "You deserve to be happy, Cristian. You're not hopeless and you're definitely not alone. Ash and I will always be here for you."
Laney put a smile on and turned to Cris. "I take it you must be hungry," she said to him, "Want a cookie? They're chocolate chip." Laney lifted the plate and set it in front of him. Chocolate was a natural aphrodisiac and always made people happy. Maybe it'd cheer Cris up a little. It usually always worked for Carolanne.

Cristian smiled and accepted the cookie. "Thanks...I missed dinner thanks to some essay" he explained as to why he was so hungry. He took the cookie and took a bite, sending crumbs falling downwards into his hand, which he had prepared underneath as a safety net to keep the kitchen clean.
