Dan had not spent his holiday how he would have liked, he had planned on spending it with the woman of his dreams the one person that made him feel happy. But instead he spent it with his parents and sister (and her male friend) in a small muggle town. So, naturally he spent most of the Christmas period drowning his sorrows in the local pub and escorting ladies home and most of the time spending the whole night with them. However after New Year he had stopped drinking and he planned to stop his womanising however as soon as he got back into the castle grounds, walked down the corridors and sat at the staff table the latter resolution seemed to be slipping.
The mere memories of what had happened in these walls were too much for him to take and he needed to do something about it, he needed to get rid of the thought of Dia in his mind. So for that he headed to the Library. He needed to find his oldest of friends, he needed to find Offley. As he entered the Library he saw that is was pretty busy, students catching up with the work they were meant to do over the holidays, doing extra work and trying to catch up with all the gossip they had missed out on. But as the Hufflepuff head of house walked past they would fall silent and their eyes would turn to look at him, some people laughing, other staring in wonder.
After asking a Hufflepuff where the librarian was she pointed to the herbology section he saw his red haired friend and a small smile spread across his face. Creeping up slowly behind her Dan stretched out his arms and as he reached her he wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her shoulder.
“Afternoon Miss Marsh.”

Offley had been quite happily sorting through the many books that filled the library’s many book shelves. It was early afternoon and the lunch time rush was dying down and only the most hard working students where left, which meant that it gave Offley time to work on her own book. So when this was the case she would normally be found flicking through the many books on magical plants and their properties only occasionally would she leave the library all together and go diving in the lake to find the real things. But today was yet another day of reading and occasionally drifting off into her own wild imagination, the amount of books she had read almost meant that she believed religiously that the answer to any question will be in a book and that real life romances and experiences are like those that are found in fiction. It was at this very point she was dreaming about a certain person, she could feel his arms around her and hear him whispering in her ear, but for once it felt real.
Her eyes snapped open and as she looked down she saw his arms around her, and as she turned her head ever so slightly there was Daniel Hubbles head, the cheeky smile upon his face and the joyful sound of his voice made her heart melt. Letting out a rather long sigh Offley soaked up the moment before wiggling free from his embrace and looking at the man straight in the eyes.
“Professor Hubbles, this is neither the occasion nor the place for such affectionate behaviour. I advice you treat me in the same manor as you other colleagues.”
A small wicked smile crept over her face at the mere prospect that Dan had in fact hugged her like he used to all those years ago, but then Offley caught onto what might actually be happening. Her smile faded and she folded her arms and looked up at Dan.
“You are too predictable Daniel. I have already calculated why you are here and I will tell you this, it will not work.”

Dan did not put up much resistance when Offley tried to break away he was just happy to see her face and that smile that Dan remembered from all those years ago when they were at school together. They had both changed so much since then, so much had happened and past between them and yet it always happened that when Dan ended a relationship and needed a pick me up he always turned to Offley. But it seemed that she had picked up on this as well so Dan was going to have to play his cards really carefully. “What?” Dan pretended to be affronted by the mere suggestion. “I am not allowed to hug my oldest friend?”
Dan shook his head but a laugh escaped and he dropt his head and looked at his feet, that had been the one problem with his relationship with Dia, he had been so out of practise with his old self that it kept cracking and failing, Maybe his heart was not truly in it he knew it was wrong to play with someone who he knew loved him when he was in love with someone else.
“Well seeing as I can not fool you into it I might as well come out and ask it. Do you want to do for a drink at some point? It would have to be non alcoholic I am afraid as I have given up the other kind but if I remember rightly you’re a light weight anyway.”
He shot her what could only be counted as an innocent smile and a truthful look, at that present moment in time he did not have any other thoughts then having a small drink with his old friend and enjoying her company, something he had been lacking in the past year. They lived in the same castle but they never spoke, they avoided each other almost in fear of what the other might do or say.

Offley’s eyes moved quickly across the mans face, reading his facial expression and trying to understand what was really going through that head of his. She was not a dim wit and she knew that Dan was hurting, that was clear for anyone to see so she knew it would be wrong to make a move when his heart clearly belonged to another. Even with that in mind it did not make is easy. Offley and Dan’s relationship went all the way back to their fifth year in the school on that one fateful afternoon when their Care of Magical Creatures teacher made them work together and 11 years on here they were again standing face to face both wanting the same thing but both knowing it was wrong.
“Daniel there is only ever two purposes for a couple of people to go for a drink and seeing as you are not drinking and I will not sleep with you then it loses its purpose.”
Offley was slowly losing her cool, her voice wavered and a strand of her red hair slipped down over her face. But she did not have time to move it she just wanted to move away from Dan before he shot her his boyish grin and made her feel terrible for saying such a thing. Turning around Offley scooped up a handful of books holding them tightly to her chest almost as a shield to prevent Dan from ripping her heart out and with one last look at the man the librarian started to walk off towards her office.
