Late afternoon sun beamed its golden rays down upon the waters of the lake and the sands of the shore; the young Gryffindor sitting cross-legged on aforementioned shore stared out at the deceptively calm waters of the lake. He had of course heard the rumors of the giant squid, but had yet to find out if they were fact or fiction.
Kiernan sighed silently, well silently to himself anyway, and tilted his head back, letting the sun warm his face. A hint of a smile flickered across his pale features, opening his eyes, he squinted, “Sun’s too bright.” He muttered to himself, although he could not hear his own voice. Many people did not know that Kiernan was deaf, and thought that he was just a loner… it hurt him to see that people did not socialize with him, based on mere thought that he wanted nothing to do with them…
Sighing once more, he leaned over and pulled off his socks and shoes, dipping his toes into the lake, the cool water gently lapping over them. The sensation nearly made him giddy. Looking down at the ground, he spotted a stick and picked it up, ‘drawing tool’ in hand, he drew hearts, circles, and stars into the sand before gently wiping them away…
He lay the stick down and stared out at the lake once more as he thought about his current predicament. Relatively new to the school, not many friends, and people did not know he was deaf, and therefore when he did not answer them, thought he was just being standoffish. But that was not the case…
