Name: Dean Hogarth
Blood lineage: Half Blood (Although he thinks he is Muggleborn)
Age: 16
Birthday: 18th April
Year: 5th year
House: Hufflepuff
Wand: Beech, 12”, Centaur hair
Personality:
Dean is…well Dean is your average person. He is not exceptionally bright, nor is he stupidly dumb. He is not all together courageous although when the stakes are high and life is at risk he (like most humans) will be able to muster the courage to do super human things. Equality and fairness are two of the rules that he lives by, Dean does not believe in segregating society simply do to their race, gender or in terms of Hogwarts, their house.
He is a determined fellow, but not to the levels of one way thinking where he needs to reach that goal no matter the consequence. Dean see’s things as a challenge, a series of puzzles and tasks that need to be undertaken and as he will work productively to reach these targets even if it means staying up all night to complete it. This is the outlook he takes to his studying at the castle and as a result is achieving the best grades he could possibly achieve, they may not be as good as half the Ravenclaw’s in the school but as long as you have done your best there is no reason to feel ashamed.
This is not to say however that Dean is a hardcore student who takes pleasure in nothing else other then learning, in fact quite the opposite. He may have the patients to sit and write a 5 foot essay for any class but his heart does yearn for freedom, independence! Once his work is done then he will go out and have fun, go to the Quidditch pitch to have a small game with his mates, sit by the lake and watch the giant squid or simply wonder around the castle as after five years in the school Dean is still in awe of its splendour. It is in these situations when Dean can relax that a different of him is revealed. He is not one to jump up and down shouting his head off, chasing girls around the school...most deffinatly not that or cause trouble for the professors; he is too scared to do anything that might involve too much social contact!
Appearance:
Dean is of average build and average height. His hair is brown and his eyes are grey and his jaws are covered in stubble. On normal days he will be in his robes, at weekends in jeans and t-shirts. Normally found hunched over books or lounging in chairs in the Common Room. Scruffy casual is how some would call his look but all that Dean cares about is that he feels comfortable way he looks and to him that is all that matters.
History:
Dean’s mother and father are both muggle self help gurus. They travel from business to business in the high stressed cities of Britain teaching the multinational companies employees how to relax and better themselves. As a result from a young age Dean had been drilled with all the typical slogans and methods to have a good outlook on life and this had defiantly reflected in his personality.
Dean is the youngest of five brothers and the only one to have magical ability. There was always rumour in the family that he was not his fathers son, not only did they not look much alike (and Dean did not look like his other four brothers) but Dean’s mother on many occasions would drop hints about having a small fling with a random man at a church fete one time. He was a magician in a travelling road show, a nice young man he was, dirty blond hair…very attractive but for the life of her Carol (Dean’s mum) could not remember his name, it was something foreign and something that sounded like it came from a kids movie about a mermaid, but her mind went blank every time.
Of course this was all kept under the rug and away from Shamus (Dean’s father) and so the whole happy family façade carried on. Well it did until the summer before Dean was meant to go to High School and an owl of all things delivered a letter saying Dena had been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Bemused is a word that would sum up how many of the Hogarth family felt for almost a week after that letter, Shamus would not believe it but eventually Carol talked him around and got him to respect his sons special abilities.
So on the 1st of September Dean made his way to Hogwarts for the first time, a new experience, something different…and adventure. Clearly however it was all too much for the poor lad as he fainted due to nerves before the sorting ceremony. For weeks after he was sure that is why he was sorted into Hufflepuff and not Gryffindor (after all this well famous person called Harry Potter came from that house) but slowly as the year progressed he realised that he was in the best possible house…Hufflepuff! It filled him with great pride when they won the house cup so many years in a row and Dean felt like he helped scoring house points in his lessons and doing his work. Hogwarts was a chance for him to have that independence he wanted.
During his time at Hogwarts Dean has grew passionate about magic and many of its lessons, most of all being Astronomy. Even in the muggle world Dean was fascinated with the night sky and it made so much more sense now at Hogwarts, he could use it and understand it all. Of course for a student to become so close to a subject you need a good professor and in Deans eyes Professor Owen is the ultimate. He did enjoy many other subjects at the school, the bias towards Hufflepuff made him enjoy Charms, he loved the idea of flying, Care of Magical Creatures was such an experience and Defence Against the Dark Arts was never dull.
Going into his fifth year at the school and his first major series of exams Dean knew he needed to focus more but he also wanted to be more outgoing (ever since his father commented on him not having many friends) and so now was the time for Dean Hogarth to become a more active member of the school community.
