Mayella Reed and Collette Clowes, back in the day they could be thought of as unGodly women and were utterly desirably but completely unattainable. They became a complement to each other and were practically like ying and yang.
But it wasn't like that right off the bat, of course. They both came from well-known pureblood families. The Clowes were always in Gryffindor, and the Reeds were always in Ravenclaw. This is how it always was, and they were no exception. So when they entered Hogwarts they were both major house-priders and would barely even talk to someone out of the house. Because of this, they'd clash and sometimes fight enough for people to notice how similar the girls really were.
Eventually by their second year the pride mellowed out to a 'we're better than you, but you're alright.' For May it was I'll talk to a Ravenclaw first, then a Gryffindor, Huffllepuffs are too quiet and Slytherins aren't worth my time. Colle must've been in a similar mindset because in one of their Transfiguration classes they started to talk to each other each time, first sarcastically and coldly but slowly it turned into friendly chit-chat as they realized that they actually thought the same.
This class friendship started to grow and spread as they met each other between classes, other school, and in different subjects. They started to take the same classes and helped each other where they struggled. United we stand became a good description of them as they rose above the others, in their heads, and paid no attention to any nonsense from the boys. They had fun, and they were themselves even if that meant beating on some boy for saying some cheesy pick-up line.
By the end of their years they pretty much were only separated by the time that they had to sleep in separate common rooms, but they knew that a more permanent separation would come soon. Mayella had always been good at Transfiguration and was going to put that to use for good in the Ministry, and Collette had always been the rough one with a crush on Dragons so she was going to head south to Romania. It was a crushing thought that they might not eve see each other again, and it was too much of a long-distance relationship to keep connected.
They drifted apart, but the magic of Hogwarts has a knack for bringing people back together.
