Loads of people have commented how I can get a little…well…obsessive over certain things and today Ladies and Gentleman my obsession is FONTS!
*Cheers and claps enthusiastically*
Ok so after a discussion with some people on the site I have found out how I have become rather protective over the ‘Book Antiqua’ font which I use for the Hubbles clan! At first I thought it was just be being rather selfish but then as I thought on it more the fonts that people use slowly become the character and we associate that font, layout style or colour with that individual character just as much as the Celebrity that they use.
I can give a few examples (and if you are feeling really sad try and work out which font style belongs to whom!!)

I know some people spend a while trying to find the perfect font for their characters, for me Book Antiqua is the only one I care about as in my mind it has become associated with the Hubbles peeps. I know I may be making a mountain out of a mole hill here but I wanted to know what you guys think on the matter…I know many of you chop and change font depending on what mood you are in so I respect that...but I was thinking maybe a sort of font claim system could be set up…I do not know…it almost seems mean stopping you from using the fonts now I think on it…can you tell this is me losing confidence in my own idea, almost like I am talking myself out of it! ((In fact I almost talked myself out of it so much SJ and Robyn had to tell me to get over myself and just post this ramble so I would feel better haha...which by the way it has not mad me feel better at all cause now I feel like I am moaning about something that is stupid and no one cares about...*sigh*))

Well Liz, I would have to agree with you here. I think that your font, like your celeb, or font color, is something that should be associated with your character. Like, take me for example, every post I do, the color is based on what house the person is in. Ravenclaw- blue, Gryffindor-red, and Slytherin- green. and my adults, their colors are what color their names are. for example, Andie's name is in purple, so her font color is purple. So, why not do the same for font styles? If we are going to have a Font Claim, I would like to claim Calligrapher for Andie, and Bradley Hand ITC for Ash, Angelina I will have to wait and see, most likely it will be French Script MT, if that is useable. But, I do agree.
Edit: Although, I see no problem with sharing fonts. That could work out quite nicely.

Haha, I know what you mean, Liz. Sometimes I can figure out who plays the character based on the font they use since people tend to stick to it.
but even though we'd all like to have rights to say "bugger off my font, b****" it's pretty impractical.
After all, that third example is Felicity Locke ( yay ally ) but we both use the same font ( dunno why, we just do xD ). Arial with colored speech.
If there was a font claim system I'm sure a lot of people would end up being like "Hey, i use that font too! *rawr*". And we all know that it doesn't take much for us Ridders to get at each other ( IE: plots and best friends *cough* )
So in the end, perhaps you just have to bear with it, or you could always yell at people using your font.... not very nice, but I'd do it if it bothered me.
That's my.. rant >> -skips off to play video games again-

Oh yeah I agree it is impractical…thus why by the end of my rant I was talking myself out of it hahaha! Cause why the hell should be not be able to share fonts??? It is just me being waaaaaaaaaay over protective of the font I have used for years hahaha.
You know what I need someone to slap me…just to snap me out of this silly little state I am in! Cause I agree with you Nicole it does not take much for us Ridd peeps to take things the wrong way and start bickering hahaha!
Sorry everyone hahaha! This is me having a minor mood hehehe. The whole concept is totally stupid, I mean they are just fonts right, and having a claim system would mean people can not use them and that is not fair and beside everyone on here is so nice if you did have a problem you just needed to ask them over pm and an arrangement could be made…not making it public like I have stupidly done! So I am very sorry once again I feel really bad for making this thread as it was me being so stupid! I have a cider now and Ice cream on the way so I will get over it soon hahahaha! Sorry again and Thank you Nicole...that is what I needed hehehehe!

Haha xD It's fine liz, we all have our moments when we feel downright nitpicky. or just want to eat people for no reason at all :P
Cider and ice cream sounds like a good way to get over it. Hot chocolate's a nice way too. After all, chocolate's what keeps women from taking over the world. ( Pissed lady + chocolate = happiness. :D )

Like I said on MSN dude, you need to get stuff off your chest just do it, haha and yes it's a good idea but like everyone else said there would be the big issue of people sharing fonts and stuff, and it would make more issues than needed because then there would be fights like all the time about fonts, and I can imagine it getting ridiculous.
I myself have only ever kept to one font & colour for Brooke, and all my other characters had never had the same font and colour all the way through, so I would find it hard too. I am always changing and messing about with them due to boredom, I do it on MSN and AIM too, not just here. It's just me I guess, I can't stick with the same thing for too long and something else catches my eye and i'm like "ooo, pretty font" and so I change it. Haha.

Though Ellie has gone through...I'm going to say three font changes, each one has been due to a slight change in my character process. I am currently happy with my tahoma font and teal wording.
I don't mind other people using my font, but I mean if someone did the same exact thing I would kinda be like...uhh...

I think font claim is a good idea, actually. And the green sylfaen one is mine. xD Yeah, I'm sad, whatever.
We could have it that the same font could be used a few times, but with different colours and sizes? That way if people accidentally used the same font as someone else from the start they wont have to drop their style or anything.
I use Sylfaen with Erys and Palatino Linotype with Katya. All the others I just use smaller sizes, the list things, and different sizes.
I got a little protective when my font and exact colour I used for Katya ( example! heheh. ) was suddenly used by Polaris, because I knew she hadn't used it before by looking at other threads. She had used the normal font and the colour blue, and then on the same thread she started using my font. I wouldn't have minded very much had she asked and used a different colour.
That was a while ago, so.. Yeah.

Haha, man, I see you guys' points, but I think a "Font Claim" is going a little far. I mean, I understand being protective about fonts, if anyone ever used Panos' font I would have a cow, but I think everyone is, for the most part, pretty creative with their fonts and if someone happens to identically duplicate your personal font, it's not that hard to send them a message and say "Hey, you're kinda using my trademark font, would you mind changing colors or something?" rather than creating a list of fonts that people have to search through to make sure they're not stepping on any toes.
Just my opinion. But don't make this anymore of a hostile environment than it needs to be.

I agree with Helia. And Erys, I used the same font for a while, yes, but I was experimenting, getting a feel for different fonts. And Katya's colour? I chose mine off of this website. Go to it and you will see that there is a hell of a lot of colours to be chosen. Blue is my personal favourite so I chose what I liked. I didn't know what exact colour you used for Katya, so I apologise. I don't use it now, just to let you know. This whole thing is a bit ridiculous in and of itself, but is understandable that using fonts with an associated character is just like their celebrity. Keep it personal and unique, but if someone happens to use their font, I say let 'em. To me, correcting someone and not letting them use a certain font is like saying, "I know you love eating strawberry ice cream, but it is my favourite, so you can't eat it at all." But if they use the same COLOUR and font, then it's a bit personal.

Right, this is getting totally out of hand, I think we should just drop the whole subject. We've all come to a conclusion that a font claim and colour claim would be absolutely obsured. I'm getting pretty annoyed now because it is getting so out of hand when it's for the pettiest things on here.
I never normally speak up with people when they have pety arguments on here about one thing or another because it's none of my business, but this is stressing everybody out for no reason. IT'S A FONT, if someone uses the same one, just deal with it it's not like you actually made it is it?. We need to keep the drama for roleplaying.
