(Kitchen) Potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes

[Professor Daniel Hubbles]

Dan had fallen asleep in his office again and so had missed lunch and by the time he had finally got down to the kitchen his stomach was rumbling so loud he was sacred the ministry would think that there was a dragon on the lose in the castle. After tickling the pear in the picture and entering the kitchen he was pleased to see that the house elves still had food left on the table.

After walking past many bowing house elves and being offered many types of cakes and forms of fruit, Dan found his way over to where the boiled potatoes where and helped himself pilling it high on a spare plate. With a satisfied smile Dan began to tuck into his many potatoes and sat on his table watching the house elves run around cooking and talking rather quickly at each other. It was then when he thought he felt a draft come in through the passageway of someone else entering the kitchen.

Derek walked into the Kitchen after tickling the pear on the portrait. He had missed lunch when he was looking up on Goblin Rebellions in the libary. Then he saw Professor Daniel Hubbles. "Hello Professor." said Derek.

Andie grumbled to herself as she tickled the pear, which was the entrance to the kitchens and pushed open the door. "I cannot believe I missed lunch! I'm starving!" she muttered angrily as she stepped in to the spacious, well-lit kitchen. She looked around, seeing a varitety of foods, and was soon overwhelmed by little houseleves. She gave a gentle laugh, "Just some fresh fruit please." she said, and the elves scurried off to bring the requested food. Andie went to sit at a table, then she saw Professor Hubbles. "Oh! Um... hi professor. How are you doing?" she said warily, not sure how he would react, considering their little 'talk' they had had in the corridors a few nights ago. Andie pulled up a stool and sat next to Professor Hubbles, but not too close to him.

The Professor didn't answer due to the fact that another student had came in. It was his fellow Ravenclaw, Andrea. "Hi ya Professor, Hi ya Andrea." said Derek.

Dan continued to fill his mouth with potatoes when other people began to walk into the kitchen. They were both Ravenclaw’s, Derek the boy who was very keen to learn difficult spells (Typical Ravenclaw) and Andie who seemed to have been ignoring him the past few days. Making sure that his mouth was empty before he greeted them back Dan swallowed hard to get any remains of potato out of his mouth. After he was content his mouth was empty Dan smiled at both the newcomers and greeted them.

“Good evening Mr Johnson, Miss Riley, how are you today? Well you must be hungry to come town here other wise I would have to give you detention for plan to sabotage the kitchen….you were not planning to poison he food and then feed it to me. Now that would be a crime.”

He gave a soft chuckle and he looked around him for something to drink. After seeing nothing in reach Dan turned back to his plate of boiled potatoes and stabbed a few on the end of his fork before placing them in his mouth and he continued to much away happily.

'The only crime here, Professor,' Aidan began as he and his brother stepped out of the shadows, and Derryl continued, 'is having all this food and not enough stomach to put it in.' The twins had been peckish after lunch so had go down to the kitchen, skipped class and eaten there way till everyone else joined them.

Derryl sat next to the professor and looked up at him. 'Good potatoes, Professor?' he asked. They must have been at the rate the professor was shovelling them down.

Aidan went straight to the beautiful Ravenclaw who had been so cold to them before. 'Good evening to you, Beauty,' he said once again kissing her hand. Then he saw the other Ravenclaw. Aidan held out his hand and said, 'Aidan Parkhurst, pleased to meet you. That there is my brother, Derryl.' He gabbed a finger towards Derryl who gave a preoccupied wave with his hand over his head.

"Ugh! You little slime!" Andie snatched her hand back with disgust. She sneered down at Aidan with comtempt. "You know what? That just cost you ten points from Slytherin! Keep it up and I'll make it fifteen. Now scram you putrid little brat! And take your brother with you!" Andie rolled her eyes as she turned her attention towards Professor Hubbles. "So, professor, how have you been doing?" she asked as she dipped a strawberry into the chocolate fountain that had materialized in front of her and placed it to her lips and took a small bite. She offered the plate of straberries to Professor Hubbles, "Would you care for one?" she asked with a small smile.

As the twins walked into the kitchen Dan raised his eyes brows in suspicion. Where ever the Parkhurst twins were trouble normally followed. With a small nod of the head in acknowledgement of the very tasty potatoes Dan looked over at Andie who seemed rather disturbed at what the twins were doing, especially when Aiden kissed her hand. All Dan could do was snigger, it was very smooth however Andie did not like it at all, but Dan could not be bothered to protest when she took points away, he was to happy eating his potatoes.

When Andie asked how he was and what he had been up to he really did not know what to say. Not only did he have his mouthful of potatoes he was also trying to waste time thinking of a good response. So with overemphasis chews and signalling to the Ravenclaw he would answer once he had swallowed.

“Well I have been working. Surprisingly enough around this time of year with exams school work increases and that also means a lot more marking for us teachers. So really I have been sitting in my small office only leaving it to shout at students and eat.”

Dan gave Andie a small grin before picking up a bottle of tomato sauce and placed a load on the side of his plate, and then as if there where no other food around him continued to eat the boiled potatoes dipping the odd one into the sauce.

Andie chuckled and shook her head slightly. "Don't you just love exam time?" she asked sarcastically rolling her emerald eyes. "It's always so enjoyable isn't it?" she commented with mock cheerfulness.

Aidan could not believe that this Ravenclaw held such a grudge so hard. She took points from him and he was going to protest when a memory of something she had once said came to him. He stared at her for a moment, at the way her face contorted with revulsion. Aidan immediately began laughing.

Derryl, who had nodded to the professor for his answer, stood up when he heard his brother laughing and joined him by the two Ravenclaws. He frowned at his brother and Aidan pointed to the Ravenclaw. Derryl, remembering the same instance, also began laughing.

She left them and went to the professor. The twins were still laughing. 'And she calls that beautiful,' Aidan said through his laughing.

'Yeah,' Derryl said, still laughing, 'a face only a mother could love.' The two ignored their conversation, finding it much too boring to join. They didn't care about points so they carried on laughing.

Andie stiffened as she heard the voices. She turned slowly and slipped of her stool, she sauntered over to the twins and gave them a look that would have chilled Voldemort's blood. She flicked her wand and both boys front teeth instantly began to grow at an alarming rate. Andie gave a cold cruel laugh. "Now there's a face, not even a mother could love." she hissed coldly. She smiled. "Now are you two going to stop grinding my nerves? Or are you really as stupid as you look?"

Aidan and Derryl rarely meant anything by what they said or did or laughed at. So this rash, harsh act came as a huge surprise. They stopped laughing immediately and stared at the Ravenclaw, disbelieving she had just done what she had done. Derryl put a hand on Aidan's shoulder and the two brother's looked at each other, alarmed.

However, when they saw how ridiculous they looked they began to laugh again. They hung onto each other and laughed so hard tears began to flow.

'Wo wook wike a gwyffindor,' Aidan spluttered through his large front teeth.

'Wo wook wike wour cowsin,' Derryl chuckled past his large teeth. It couldn't have happened to nice kids who would have appreciated it more.

Andie sneered. "Oh, is that not scary enough for you boys? Well... how bout this, how would you like to have octupus tentacles sprouting from your face?" she asked with a cold sneer, as she raised her wand threateningly. She circled the boys, "Or maybe huge warts and pimples covering your face? Or...ooh! I know! How about both!?" She was now facing the twins once more and bent down to their level. "Now, unless you're as dumb as you look, you should know that you've already pissed me off, you've insulted me, and you've made improper advances. Now the only way, that I won't do all those things to you, is if I get an apology. So, which will it be? An apology, or walking around with beaver teeth, octupus tentacles, and pimples and warts covering your face?"

Dan was quite content to watch the three of them argue and threaten each other all nigh long, as long as he had a fresh supply of potatoes to keep him satisfied. However things started to become slightly ugly. The twins seemed to be in stitches about something and Andie was now circling them with her wand at the ready. No matter how funny it would have been to see students walking around with tentacles and warts he knew that Headmaster Darrow would not be pleased if he let it happen. Sliding of his table Dan stood up and took hold of Andie, pulling her away form the twins.

“Come on Miss Riley this is not how a prefect should be acting. It not only sets a bad example but is abusing power. If you continue this I will have to take points off Ravenclaw as well.” Dan turned to look at the twins “I do not think you deserved losing those points, however I bet you have got away with so many pranks in your time I think it is worth while. Just stop provoking her.”

Feeling rather pleased that he had settled the whole thing Dan jumped back onto of the table and picked up his plate of potatoes and became to eat them once again. In fact he had eaten so many that some houses-elves had began to cook some more.

Andie sighed, she knew Professor Hubbles was right but still, the irrational part of her brain seemed to be trying to take control, plus it would be funny to see them walk around with tentacles on their faces. "Fine." she grumbled, "But they started it, and besides, the deserve it anyway." With a flick of her wand, the beaver teeth disappeared, and both boys went back to normal, or well as normal as they'd ever be.
