Sleeping before the dead of night had its advantages, he'd never thought he'd say it but arising early was a necessary evil. Once upon a time, long ago many people would call it, he had had great trouble trying to awaken early. Now 6 o'clock seemed to be the usual. Often Darrow would begin on his paperwork as soon as his head left the pillow, then stroll down to the kitchens for a little light refreshment; breakfast is the most important meal of the day afterall it is said.
So it was that if any other early risers were about, prowling the corridors, they may had espied Darrow strolling leisurely along to the kitchens, chatting amiably to a house elf trotting quickly to keep up with this long strides, that he often forgot to adjust to the elf's slower pace. On entering the kitchens he smiled upon seeing his usual breakfast already awaiting him; a simple bacon butty with the bacon lightly crisped and seasoned with a dash of lea and perrins; just the ticket to begin his day in the right way. He was surprised to find no other early risers tucking into a little breakfast, often he'd converse with a Ravenclaw who brought even their school books with them to dine, now they really could multi-task, he found their talent rather enviable. As the house elves scurried about their business he perched upon a stool and tucked into his sandwich, almost tempted into asking for another, but deciding he would resist and have an early luncheon instead. Finishing meagre meal he was passed his midmorning snack; a deliciously juciy granny smith apple. Smiling as he licked the plate clean Darrow was about to offer his assitance at washing up when he remembered he'd tried that before, and failed quite miserably, he could never compete with their speedy efficiency, it really was quite remarkable, in fact he was quite contented to watch their busy fingers, tidying and preparing, he really did admire their sterling work.
Hearing footsteps behind him, he knew they weren't elvish as they barely made a sound with their soft padding about, he turned with a smile upon his lips.
