(Corridors) Our Solemn Hour

[Sorry for the delay, I was eating dinner]

Bradyn had, simply put, walked. Walked until he barely knew where he was in the castle anymore. He felt like he just needed to be left alone, before something or someone set him off. He only stopped when he reached a large window with a good view, a good spot for him to think.

Climbing carefully into the window frame, he pulled his knees up to his chest for him to balance easier. Bradyn stared silently out the window, wanting to go outside and enjoy the day but at the same time he felt like being alone was best. It was quiet, the sounds from the grounds were lost in the wind. He sighed and closed his eyes, not wanting to watch whatever was going down in the grounds, or the whirring figures by the quidditch pitch. He no longer felt like he knew himself; some people thought of him as a softie, and others found him their enemy. But the last he checked, Bradyn Reed was just the average joe, and a lazy one at that. 'Who am I? Not the lazy kid who didn't need to think or pay attention to easily pass his schoolwork.'

Ash wandered through the corridors. It seemed as though he and Maxi were over. They hadn't actually said so, but Ash knew they were. Ash sighed, as he contemplated his latest heartbreak. Humming to himself, he found that as usual in times like this, a song was taking form in his head. Letting the music take over he started to sing, not realising that he wasn't alone

((i know it might be weird for Ash to be singing an Evanescence song seeing as Erika is using Amy Lee as her celebrity, but i just felt like this particular song was appropriate for the moment. oh, and anytime one of my characters sings, they take on the voice of the person who's song it is in real life. but i usually write it so that my character wrote the song in the rp. hope that didn't confuse you! lol))

Bradyn's eyebrows scrunched in distaste as he heard singing. He opened an eye, too lazy to open them both, and waited for the person to show up. He was quite surprised to see Ashton show up, surprised enough to grip the ledge of the window sill harder so he wouldn't fall out. "What's with the long face?" Bray asked, deciding not to comment on the song. He smiled a little, glad that of all the people that could show up, Ashton was the one to do so. It looked like they both needed a little company to cheer themselves up.

Turning his head slightly to face Ashton, his long brunette bangs covered his eyes almost entirely. He smiled, and this would be the point where Bray would make a joke, preferably about the man's eyeliner, but he sensed that today was not the day to tease Ash.

Ash jumped, as he heard an unexpected voice. "Hey Bray." he said smiling softly, noticing the look on Bray's face he rolled his eyes. "I know what you're thinking Bray. You wanna make a wisecrack about my makeup don't you?" he smirked deviously.

Bradyn grinned when he must've scared Ash by how much he jumped. 'Chicken.' he thought happily, though he admitted that most people would be surprised by a student sitting in a window. Bray immediately frowned, or more pouted at his next comment. "You know me too well, what did you put it on without looking?" He laughed and leaned back against the side of the window.

Pushing his hair out of his face, he looked back at Ashton. "but seriously, you look terrible. Something bothering you?" Bray swerved carefully in the window and placing his legs back on the ground, his knees cracking in the process from staying bent so long.

Ash rolled his eyes. "Real clever Bray. No, I did not put it on without looking. I did this on purpose. It's called being creative?" Ashton arched an eyebrow as he heard Bray's knees crack from sitting so long. "Wow, don't tell me you're turning into an old man? I might have to find someone to replace you as Keeper!" he said in mock horror. Ash srugged at Bray's question. "Maxi." he answered truthfully and simply.

Bradyn grinned and enjoyed poking fun at Ashton, and it seemed to be distracting him from what was bothering him for now."Ohh, don't tell me. It's an abstract, right?" Then he laughed at himself and patted his knees, they hurt a bit and he reminded himself not to sit like that for a while. "Guess those forty years really fly by, seemed like just yesterday I was 15. Maybe they'll fall off and I won't be able to sit on a broom anymore!" He said, gasping a little.

But it seemed the time for jokes was over and he scooted over to make room in his window. "I figured he had something to do with it." He said simply and patted the spot next to him. "What happened?" Bray asked seriously, feeling the same feeling that Fay must feel all the times she protects him.

Ash laughed. "Yeah, I made an abstract painting on my face using my makeup!" he quipped. "He's not talking to me." he admitted with a sigh.

Bray's eyebrow twitched a bit. 'That's it? He went all angsty, abtract-face man for that?' He thought, then realized that if Bry was ignoring him, he'd be crushed. "Ahh. Did you do something stupid to him?" He asked, encouraging Ashton to keep talking.

Ash scowled. "I didn't do anything to him! He's so caught up with being a Prefect that he's pushed away his friends. He and Mark aren't even friends anymore!"

[Massive case of writers-block.]

"Okay, okay!" Bradyn said, putting his hands up defensively. He was a little shocked to hear the Maxi-Mark friendship was no more and all because Maxi became a workaholic?. Reacting mostly on instinct, Bray plopped down on the floor and went over to Ash, giving him a warm hug. As much as it felt awkward, it didn't look too good too; Bray being short he barely reached up to Ash's shoulder.

"Don't let someone like that get to you, but I wouldn't give up on him, either." He said, then let him go when he finally realized what he was doing. 'Well.. apparently I'm bad at comforting people.' Bray quickly turned on his heel and marched back to his window, embarrassed and a little confused.

[Before you think Bray's a munchkin, he's like 5'2"-ish. Which is my height, and apparently I'm short.]

Ash smiled as Bray hugged him. "Thanks, I just don't understand why he's being such an arse."

((well, Maxi is close to six feet and Ash just barely reaches his chin. In fact, if they're standig, facing eachother, Ash's head would be just level with Maxi's chest. So if Bray's 5'2 then he is a midgit compared to Ash and Max! And I'm shorter actually! I'm only 5'1! lol))

"Did you ever think that something could be bothering him, and that's how he deals with things?" Bradyn shrugged. "Or maybe he's just an arse that likes to hurt people?" Bray kept himself from wincing, thinking that the old Ash he knew would punch him or something for insulting Maxi so openly.

[ Geeze, Maxi'd tower over Bray! D: Haha, I'm taller than someone. Yes! ]

Ash's sapphire eyes blazed, and an indignant flush painted his pale cheeks a light pink. "Maxi isn't an arse! Just because he's acting like one, doesn't mean that he is!" Then he sighed, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap. I guess I still feel a need to defend him, even if I am mad at him!"

"Ohh, touchy touchy! You sure don't act like it's over between you two." Bradyn said, naturally reacting to Ash going off on him. But then he smiled and softened a little. "Don't worry about it, though I didn't expect sappy Ashy to go off at something like that."
