Dan wondered down the corridor the spring sunlight was something through the stain glass windows creating patterns on the flagstone floor of the corridor. It was a simple thing but Dan found it interesting and as Girty would always say that it was simple things for simple minds and Dan could not help but agree. The professors attention soon turned from the colourful patterns on the floor to the portraits on the wall. He had noticed that a quite a few had been taken down and only those who reminded silent stayed proudly on the wall. Smiling at the wizards and winking and the witches he continued to wonder down the corridor unsure of what he was actually doing.
As he went around the bend fighting his way against the on coming tide of students Dan noticed a figure standing over by one of the statues. He was there in his Hufflepuff robes seemingly paying little attention to the world around him and as a smirk filled the Dan’s face he strode over to the student and in the best impression of Headmaster Darrow he could mange he shouted at the student..
“Mr Griffiths you best not be skipping lessons.”

Jamie-Syrus had been waiting in a third floor corridor, for Girty to arrive. They had planned to meet for lunch to have a good old chin-wag, however she was now 10 minutes late! Though he knew that seen as it was Girty she had either forgotten or had fallen down a flight of stairs and injured herself somehow.
Straightening up he decided that he would head toward the window and see if there were any students wandering randomly around the grounds on this fine spring day. The light reflecting off the surface of the lake had a nice rippleing affect on the arch over the window. As he became engrossed in the light movements upon the archway a voice echoed from behind him. Startling him somewhat, it was the voice of the headmaster. He spun round on the spot thinking of a number of exceptional excuses for lurking in the corridor.
Jamie-syrus turned to face whom he had assumed to be the headmaster. However to his surprise he turned to see his Cousin there instead. "Dan?! Dude I haven't seen you in a while. How are you? and.. you haven't happened to of seen Girty on your travels have you?"

His cousins face was a picture of pure terror that quickly turned to one of surprise and then a grin filled his features. Dan could not help but laugh at the younger students face before wrapping his arm tightly around him, pulling him close and ruffled up his hair. The older of the two was still laughing as Jamie struggled underneath him trying to break free so like a predator playing with his food Dan pushed him away still finding it hard to stop himself from laughing.
It had been a while since Dan had laughed, he had had very little to amuse himself with seeing as Girty was to busy with Simon, he had stopped drinking so the pub was a no go area and Dia…well that is better left unsaid. Standing with the his hands on his hips trying to calm down his breathing Dan looked at Jamie-Syrus and listened to what he had to say about Girty.
“No I have not seen her Jam. Well no that is a lie I saw Girty this morning she was moaning about having a headache and that lessons started to early. I think she was out last night with Simon.”
Dan gave a small laugh and noticed that some students were looking at them so he shot them a heated glare to speed them along. It would have been strange to many others to see a student and professor act this way and many most likely had failed to make the connection between them as they did not share the same last name.

Jamie laughed as he was taken into a huge embrace with his cousin, however this being Dan it was unlikely to be your average kind of family hug. Low and behold, moments later Dan had Jamie locked under his arm and was ruffling his hair up. "Gerrof me!" He laughed, though it was muffled against Dan's shirt. He Drew away and attempted to scowl at him, though it was not easily managed in a family such as this.
"Ah Girty going out drinking again! What shall we do with her. Well I shall let her off I spose. Though she could have at least contacted me about it! And still calling me jam eh? Will I ever live that down!?" At the memory he looked at his feet with a little smile and flattened the hair at the base of his neck as a nervous habit.
Jamie-Syrus looked up as he heard the sound of shuffling feet. a gaggle of students passing along with some inquisitive expressions. Refraining from laughing at them. He never really considered how bizarre it must be for them to see a teacher behave in such a manner.

Dan watched the back of the students as they walked around the bend in the corridor, he found it amusing that a simple glare could get people to move along and leave him alone, that would be something he missed if he went on with his plan. But this was not the time to be thinking such thoughts he had told no one, well apart from Girty and he did not want to bother Jamie with it. However as Jamie mentioned about Girty going out drinking he could not help but laugh at his sisters antics, Paul may have lost a customer in Dan but gained one in Girty. What could he say, the Hubbles family clearly liked their drink.
“You mean you two are going for a meal and you did not invite me. I thought I was your favourite cousin Jam?”
He gave him a weary grin as he once again called him by his nick name. It was a shame Bailey was not around as he always combined their names together to create ‘ginger jam’ but it always left a bitter taste in his mouth when he remembered all those Christmas ago when they actually brought him ginger jam.

Jamie-Syrus watched as his cousins expression changed from his smile to a somewhat troubled one. However he did not let it show upon his own face that he had noticed such a change. It doesn't generally help in any circumstance of the kind. Luckily he snapped back to his previous mood rather quickly.
Jamie put on the sweetest face he could manage and stated sweetly "Why of course cousin, you are my favourite! However Girty randomly bounced into me, saying we should meet and catch up, and then off she went again.. So yeah wasn't really much time to come and find you Dan.. apologies." Laughing as the memory of Girty dashing about the place entered his mind, she always pulled the funniest faces when she was in a rush.
Jamie looked up and down the corridor once again and then began "Well, it appears Girty is not turning up, you're most welcome to join me for lunch if you have nothing better to do Dan?" He enquired with a small smile.

This was the situation when the true Hubbles blood shone through, when in front of family a true Hubbles will laugh, joke and entertain but always care. It did not matter that Jamie did not carry the last name; Rufus Griffiths was a good man and acted just like them all which showed in his children’s zealous behaviour. Dan over looked he sickly sweet smile on his younger cousins face and grinned at him as he claimed that Dan was still his favourite out of the clan, and he was to proud to argue back, but he was sure the age difference always made him seem more like an uncle to Jamie-Syrus then a cousin like Girty.
“Girty seems to have a habit of being late…but are you sure you have read your watch right…I sadly know how useless you are Jam.”
With a small laugh Dan playfully punched Jamie in the shoulder much to the socked expressions of some of the passing students . He could hear the rumours now…’Professor Hubbles has found a new punch bag.’….’Hubbles who claims to love Hufflepuff’s actually hates them; he was hitting that Griffiths boy.’ In truth though Dan did not care if another rumour was added to the fire, there was enough of them doing the rounds in the castle and this one would soon be put out when they finally realises they are cousins.
“Alas dear Jam I do have better things then watching you fill your endless pit of a stomach with food….I have a stack of papers on my desk and sadly they will not mark themselves.”

Jamie-Syrus watched his cousin. He appeared to be checking over him. Making him feel ever so slightly uncomfortable, however according to Girty, he had been through alot of late, so he was not willing to test Dan’s patience or agitate him in the slightest. It made him laugh slightly when Dan did not try and state that he wasn’t the best Hubbles, or that there was no reason that he shouldn’t be considered the favourite cousin. Dan’s sense of humour had always been one of the best bits of family gatherings. Though they had never been a particularly un-humorous family, even at the worst of times.
“Oh ha-ha!” Jamie said with a playful glare at his cousin. “I can read the time perfectly well thank you! And anyway I have never been as bad as Girty at it. Remember when she came and woke everyone up at 3 am because she had her clock upside down and thought it was 9:30 instead?” Jamie laughed as the memory entered his mind. Girty was rather daft at times, definitely the worst amongst the family. Though Bailey was a relatively close second.
Jamie-Syrus laughed as students walked past hurriedly discussing the fact that Dan had just shoved him playfully in the shoulder. “Good luck sorting that lot out Dan!” Jamie chuckled, “’Tis ok, they shall figure it out eventually.” He remarked.
“Oh do you now? Well Dan.. Are you not the charms professor? I’m sure you could manage to pull off a charm that would allow them to mark themselves?” Jamie-Syrus declared with a cheeky grin. “Come on Dan, Knowing you, you haven’t eaten so far today. Please?” Jamie looked up at his cousin with attempted puppy dog eyes. But laughed during it, so the affect was somewhat ruined.

When Jamie brought up the story of Girty and the upside down clock he could not help but groan. He had only just got in from the pub and dropping off to sleep when she did that stunt. He thought the house was on fire and in a drunken panic he started to run around the house waking up every other Hubbles that has come over in preparation for the wedding. Once everyone was assembled in the front garden it soon became clear what was going on and Dan can not remember being hit by so many jinxes in his life.
“Ok you have a point there Girty is terrible when it comes to time management but I am sure she will turn up soon.”
Dan gave Jamie-Syrus a comforting smile and his gaze flicked to the bend in the corridor half expecting to she is sister waltzing around it while in a world of her own. Instead it was a bunch of giggling Gryffindors and on the sight of Professor Hubbles they blushed even more and ran down the corridor in silence before bursting out into hysterical laughter. Rolling his eyes Dan looked back at Jamie just as he was putting on his innocent smile to try and coax Dan into coming with him to dinner. He did have a point though Dan had not eaten today…he only got as far as the doors to the great hall when he saw Dia sitting at the table and on the mere sight of her he lost his appetite.
“I guess I could go…” Dan answered slowly as he thought about the advantages and the disadvantages. “I guess I will depend on who is paying?”
