Nicknames (if any): Sky
Age & Year: 15 && 5th
Blood: PureBlood
Wand: 10 1/3 inches ;; dogwood ;; Kraken beak core ;; “…excellent for Transfiguration …”
Personality:
Schuyler DePaul, at first glance, appears just like your typical girl-next-door. And, perhaps in a sense, that’s fairly true. Schuyler is a fairly easy-going person and even more so when you know her, though if you’ve just met her, she’s quick to seem soft-spoken and shy. When it comes to speaking before a group, especially if this ‘speech’ has something to do with a class, her timid voice will ring out clear as a bell.
Schuyler is a studious person, as most classes just come easy to her. She’s extremely talented in Charms classes, as she seems to have a good memory for spells. She’s also a big fan of Transfiguration and Arithmancy; Arithmancy being so due to the fact that there are set rules when it comes to the class. She is also a big reader and can almost always be found with her nose stuck in a fiction novel of some sort, Muggle- or Wizard-written.
Though she is very talented in things that deal with knowledge, there is the occasional Potions and Astrology class that the girl simply doesn’t understand, and they tend to keep her from receiving perfect O’s. It’s not her fault that she’s miserable when it comes to creating some concoction or another. Not that she fails or blows up the class every day, it just takes her a while to get anywhere. Often, she ends up reading the directions thrice before mixing anything.
Due to her past and lack of friends when she was younger, Schuyler suffers from a mild case of Autophobia—the fear of being alone. While she won’t break into convulsions or anything of the sort, Schuyler simply reacts to living her fear by tucking herself into a corner and reading a book. You see, the characters in any addicting story come to life in Schuyler’s eyes, though company makes her feel much better. Speaking of the girl’s fears, I would also like to point out that she’s not too fond of large animals. Needless to say, when she attempted to take Care of Magical Creatures during her third year.
Schuyler can also be a very material person. While she’s not really one for athletics—she’d much rather use her mind in a mystery game or something of the sort—she was raised in a semi-wealthy household and received most of whatever she wanted. While she’s not one to be stuck-up or brag, she does fear the whispers she’s heard from her parents about the family going poor. Reasoning? Simple. Schuyler has never been poor before, and from what she’s read and/or heard about, it’s no piece of cake. Being poor is not something she wishes to experience at this point in her life.
Appearance:
Schuyler is naturally a fairly small girl. She stands at a height of 5’3”, and weighs in just under ninety pounds. While many wonder if she suffers from a weight problem, that is not so. She just inherited her mother’s physicality. Her skin is fairly pale, due to a combination of her natural complexion and the fact that she’s commonly inside reading on a sunny day. She will, however, meander outside the castle walls every once in a while, though she can’t stay out for too long incase her pale skin burns—which can happen extremely fast.
Schuyler’s hair is dirty-blonde in color and naturally thin and wavy. She’s dyed her hair once or twice in the past, the outcome ranging from light brown to pure blonde, but at the current time, it’s all natural. The underside of her hair commonly seems darker than the top layer, though that could be due to the sun. Her hair is medium-long, reaching down a good four or five inches below her shoulders and is gently layered. The layers aren’t very noticeable, however, though they’re just there for an overall effect.
Schuyler happened to be blessed with cat eyes. This meaning, her eyes change color due to what she is wearing not to her personality, contrary to popular belief. Normally, her eyes are an amazing shade of the palest blue, able to be described as ice-blue if one wishes. Other times, they can appear grey or a different shade of blue, all—again—depending on what she wears. Her eyes are commonly made up with black eyeliner and mascara, the two makeup products being about the only thing she applies to her face, aside from the occasional lip-gloss.
History:
The DePauls are a well-known pureblood family centered in northern France. Gabriel and Victoria DePaul were subject to an arranged marrage, though it was a tolerable one. Not fifteen years ago, a young girl was born into the family, the second child of this marrage. Her parents proudly dubbed her Schuyler Venita, and her elder brother commonly referred to her as simply ‘Sky.’
The DePaul children grew up in a fairly private style—such as is the common when it comes to wealthy households—and commonly spent the day together, being the only company each child had. Of course, that all changed when Schuyler’s brother received his letter to Hogwarts, leaving her alone and miserable at home. Gabriel and his wife hired a tutor to teach the girl simple muggle classes—math, science, history, etc.—hoping that at least an adult would keep her company until she received her own letter.
The day that her acceptance letter flew—quite literally—through the door was one of the happiest days of young Schuyler’s life. She was ( and is ) a smart girl, and was glad for the challenge she was about to face. School. Better yet, schooling of actual wizard classes, not those simple muggle ones that her parents always claimed were ‘necessary.’ Bleh. It didn’t take her long to drag her mother to Diagon Alley, purchase her supplies, and be off, glad to finally have a place to make new acquaintances, new friends, and—of course—new enemies. After all, it had grown boring just speaking to her parents, brother, and a few neighbors day after day.
Though Schuyler’s father didn’t have any relation with Lord Voldemort—or so he claims—the DePaul’s financial status remains to be … well, intact. The family is fairly well off, though there have been murmurs of dwindling money between the Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler, being the type of girl that she is, simply refuses to acknowledge these … eh … rumors.
