The Character
Name: Elyse Dearney
Nicknames (if any): Ellie
Age & Year: 16/6th
Blood: Half
Wand: 10 3/4 Ivy with Demiguise core
Personality:
Elyse has a more intricate personality than even my imagination, the creator of her, can wrap my mind around. She has so many different aspects of her that even her creator has trouble putting it in words. Although this is as far as I have gotten in her personality; she is very shy when she first meets people. Not saying much and doesn’t make much eye contact thinking that the people already hate her. But once she gets to know someone she is very open with them and teases them with her humor and sarcastic remarks. Her ability to make friends is remarkable since she is so shy at first. This is because of the aura she projects to others, or at least hopes to project. But she needs these links with others to help her find on her quest for what feels “right”. A quirk she tends to display every once in a while is speaking to herself. Although to her dismay people normally over hear her. Another quirk is her ability to make almost anyone feel comfortable. Her charm and finesse usually win over even the surliest of characters. Elyse is normally very optimistic in her endeavors. Flashing her beautiful smile where she thinks its needed most and ensuing everyone with a passion to get everything done right. She also has a set of values that she holds in high esteem. Anyone who tries to change these will be met with cold biting words and the wrath of her anger.
Appearance:
Height:
5’ 6 ¾ “
Weight:
135 lbs.
Build:
Slim
Eyes:
Elyse’s eyes are very expressive. Her eyes show what she is feeling almost all the time; this is where you look if you want to know what she is feeling. They are a round almond shape with long dark eyelashes and their color was tantalizing; a bright aqua blue.
Hair:
Elyse’s hair is such a dark brown its almost black. Slightly wavy and it comes down to about her middle back. She normally has it up in a ponytail to keep it out of her way but when it is down it follows behind her like a long sheet of malleable glass. The silkiness of her hair and the shine it gives off is almost inhuman but yet all she does is wash it on a regular basis.
Dress style:
Elyse has her own dress style. And it fits her quite well. She doesn’t follow the fashion trends as some girls do her own age. All she does is buy what looks best on her and then wears it not really caring of what others think. Normally she wears dark denim jeans with a form fitting t-shirt.
Discerning Marks:
Elyse only has two. One is a abnormally circular mole in the middle of her collar bone. It’s a birthmark and because of its originality she is quite proud of it. And the other is a small scar (about an inch or so) on the bottom of her foot. Rarely anyone ever sees this so Elyse never has to explain how she got it.
History:
Sebastian Allan Dearney [father; wizard-Muggleborn]: Sebastian was raised in a wealthy Muggle family. He had an easy life and all the finest things. And when he got his Hogwarts letter his parents were pleased strangely enough. He continued his Muggle studies while at Hogwarts and maintained good grades in both. (Although Elyse suspects that her father used magic to help him in his Muggle courses). Her father was a Hufflepuff while at Hogwarts and received mainly E’s on his N.E.W.T.’s when he graduated. He didn’t really pursue anything in the Magical world after that though. Sebastian preferred the Muggle world as compared to the magical one. “Too much drama,” He told Elyse when she had asked why he preferred the Muggle life. Sebastian had pursued a career in architecture and was now the owner of his own successful business. He was a good man over all. Provided for his family and took care of all of them more or less. It just seemed that Elyse got the short end of all the attention. Everyone else seemed to come first.
Katherine Elizabeth Dearney [mother, Muggle]:
Katherine was also raised from a wealthy Muggle family. And although she did not get as lucky as Sebastian and get to be a witch she still lived a pretty good life; highest in her class throughout all of her school years. Graduated High school as Valid Victorian and went on to get Masters degree in College. And that is where she met Sebastian. She was majoring in Art and he needed an extra credit to graduate. They were in the same class and became best friends. Soon they spent all of their time together and started dating. And after a year or so Sebastian proposed to her. Accepting his proposal they were married a year later in the early summer months. They had 3 children together all girls. Bethany, the oldest, Elyse the middle, and Charlotte the youngest: both Sebastian and Katherine worked hard to give their children everything. But in some areas they failed miserably. Elyse was often ignored and made to feel unimportant by her family. But Katherine did the best she could with what she knew.
Siblings:
Bethany Alexis Dearney [older sister, Muggle]:
Bethany is by far the most athletic of the three girls. She was always in sports and usually the best in the grade. Beth would always boast about her abilities to her younger sisters and expect them to cater to her hand and foot. Elyse would stand up to her egotistical sister only to be scolded by their mother. Soon Elyse just let her sister boast and get the glory for her achievements because she knew that if she questioned how Beth got them things would be much harder for her in the long run. Bethany was also the most aggressive of the three children and was apt to bully them around. Normally this wouldn’t bother Elyse but when it was carried to far Elyse would rebel against her sister. And Beth being who she was would go to their mother and complain and Elyse would get a punishment no matter how ridiculous her sister’s demands were. So Elyse learned early on that life wasn’t fair.
Charlotte René Dearney [younger sister, Muggle]:
Charlotte was definitely the baby of the group. She had no backbone whatsoever. If told to do something by Beth she would to it without question or complaint. This never sat well with Elyse, she couldn’t imagine not saying anything or not be able to stand up for herself. Charlotte also always got what she wanted from their parents. Her good looks got lots of attention from the guys in the neighborhood but she didn’t have the brains to back it up. She had a kind and innocent face, which led the Dearney parents to believe that Charlotte could do no wrong and was an absolute angel. Elyse knew this was a total charade. Charlotte would sneak out at night to go walk around the neighborhood with some guys. Elyse thought that her sister maybe a bit promiscuous when it came to guys and always suspected for her to come home pregnant. But when Elyse brought these suspicions to her parents they totally ignored her or disregarded them.
Family dynamics:
The family is basically normal. A dysfunctional, over dramatic appearance oriented family. And Elyse doesn’t really get along well with any of them. Occasionally Elyse will have a good conversation with her parents but this is rare. Her sisters usually get the attention and this causes a lot of sibling rivalry. Elyse can barely stand to hear her sister’s whiny voices so she often leaves the house, and its not like anyone notices. When Elyse isn’t around it seems that the family gets along very well. Everyone laughs and is having a good time. But it seems that Elyse is the catalyst for hard feelings and vying for their parent’s attention. So to save a lot of energy and harsh words Elyse leaves or escapes up to her room for long periods of time.
History at Hogwarts to present time
Year One:
Elyse entered Hogwarts with absolutely no idea of what to expect. She was then sorted into Ravenclaw where her sharp mind and creativity wouldn’t go to waste. Once classes started Elyse couldn’t figure out why her father would prefer the Muggle world as opposed to this one, the Magical world as so much more interesting in Elyse’s eyes. She studied hard and won over some of the teachers with her smile and charm. And with her careful choice of words she never offended anyone. She quickly made friends with those in her house, especially those in her dorm. Elyse couldn’t remember a time when she had been happier though the prospect of returning to her house was enough to over shadow these wonderful thoughts. Near the end of the year she almost got into a fight with a couple of rowdy Slytherin’s but quickly confused them with her cool logic and use of words. Otherwise the year passed quite uneventfully.
Year Two:
Elyse returned gratefully to the Ravenclaw dorms at the start of her second year at Hogwarts. She had just had a rough summer of cool indifference at her house. But her friends assured her that everything would be ok in time. Elyse wanting to believe them did. Classes started again by covering some of the old material from last year. This wasn’t really important to Elyse, as she wanted to learn something new. And when she did she soaked up it like a sponge. And this is the first year she actually started to make any kind of waves. The use of cool logic in her classes rubbed some people the wrong way and Elyse just brushed this off. Not everyone could like her. Finally she started to develop a sense of humor. Sarcastic as it was it still made everyone around her laugh. Elyse had tried her hand at Quidditch but flying on a broom didn’t sit well with her. She would feel more comfortable on a living thing rather than on a wooden pole. But as the year came to a close Elyse’s mood got gloomy. Fortunately this didn’t affect her grades any.
Year Three:
Once again Elyse entered the Hogwarts doors happy she was back. This place was starting to make her feel like she belonged. Where exactly yet she didn’t know. But somewhere in this Magical world she knew she must belong. Her friends were beginning to feel like family and they were closer than ever. During this year she studied extremely hard in Transfiguration, Charms and DADA. She found these subjects more interesting than any of the others she happened to be taking, although one of her new courses, Arithmancy, was coming in fast. This was also the year she was introduced to the dark side of magic. A letter came in during the morning post. It was from her father telling her that her grandparents had been murdered while on vacation in London. Of course Elyse knew about the killing that the Death Eaters were doing but it had never affected her directly, until now. That day was filled with images of her grandparents lying dead in their hotel room with looks of horror on their faces. But this revelation sparked something inside of her. She went to the library and looked up everything she could about the Unforgivable Curses. By the end of the year she knew everything about each one of them. How you could fight of the Imperius, the intense pain of the Cruciatus and the swift death of the Avada Kedavera. Even the thought of going back to her house didn’t bother her as much this year. She knew what she had to do and was ready to do it.
Year Four:
Entering Hogwarts for the start of her Fourth year there Elyse and mentally aligned herself with the side of light. After her grandparents horrible death the year before she couldn’t imagine in any way how she could go to the dark side. When Elyse got home she found out the whole story of their death. First they were tortured for no apparent reason and then swiftly killed with their bodies lying dead in the hotel room they had rented. And only when the maid came in to clean the room did someone find the bodies. To Elyse this all seemed very surreal. How could someone do such a thing? She studied even harder in DADA now. All of her subject she put extra effort into now. She needed something to keep her mind off of her grandparents’ death and she chose her schoolwork. And yet somehow she still found time to hang out with her friends. Her rivals were now more like enemies as they have started harassing her in the halls. Her spirits only sunk lower. Elyse’s friends were having a hard time trying to make her feel better. Eventually they brought her into the Hospital Wing to see what the nurse could do. The nurse gave her a potion to take for the next three weeks and if Elyse didn’t feel better by then they would have to find an alternative remedy for her. The potion worked however and she was back to her normal smiley self. And at the end of the year Elyse wasn’t really that upset at going back to her house. Her friends had once again promised to keep in touch and that was all Elyse needed.
Year Five:
Elyse was now in her fifth year at Hogwarts and probably her most progressive one. That summer she had aligned herself with the light. But she couldn’t become a full member until she was older. This was just a minor set back for her. She had other things to worry about this year. Passing her O.W.L.’s was the big one. Stopping the harassment in the halls was another problem Elyse was going to solve. Elyse was now a beautiful young woman. And was getting attention from guys, particularly the ones in her own house. She didn’t really pay them much mind however, sure she flirted with them but she never really planned on getting serious with any of them. That semester right before Christmas Vacation Elyse found out that she was the top in her class. This was exciting news as she had always been the second one. Finally all her hard work was paying off. The bullying in the halls died down once Elyse had learned some useful jinxes from the DADA teacher. It was around this time that Elyse had adopted a small glitter in her eye when she was using her cool logic and sarcasm. This unfortunately only increased her allure among the male population. She just rolled her eyes inwardly at all of them and continued with her studies.
Present:
Elyse is going to enter her sixth year as a Hogwarts student. What is going to happen this year is anyone’s guess.
