V tugged on her tie vigorously, tossing her bookbag off to the side of the sofa. Her mind was prectically spinning with the news Erys had just dropped in Dragonology. She was dating someone. A boy. Well not 'officially', as she had put it, but that was really in all honesty the same thing right? Didn't love turn you soft? V's fingers wrapped around the robin at her neck, plopping down into the worn black leather sofas of the Slytherin common room. Love hadn't made her father soft, and she admired that, even if it had cost V her mother. But it had also taught her that relationships based on actually true emotion were for the mentally weak, who needed another person to complete themselves. Well V was just fine on her own, whole inside, like any self-loving person.
"So who is it?" she said scornfully without even looking up. "And how long has it been going on?" What a load of bullocks. This was absolutely outrageous. Erys, dating a boy? Wasn't that against all the laws of muggle physics or something? What was physics anyway? Still clutching on to her necklace, she leaned over and placed her elbow on the arm of the sofa, and rested her head in her hand.

Erys could just tell by the way her friend walked, that Veata was not impressed. She would have told her sooner, if V had been around more. Muttering the password, they entered the common room, the other girl pulling at something and moving in first. Glancing around suspiciously to make sure he wasn't here, she relaxed a bit, dropping her bookbag on a nearby end table before fluidly stretching out in a comfy chair.
"Nothing has been going on!" Erys insisted, "I just happen to like someone." Quieting for a moment, she added, "His name is Joshua. Rivas." Quickly but smoothly she told Veata what happened with Joshua in the forbidden forest. Not the part about the Shining pool, but the vampire attack. And what happened while, injured, they walked back. And in the hospital wing. That should clear a bit up, at least. "If you tell him.." She finished it off there, eyes wide and bright. She'd let him know in her own time, she didn't need anybody else to do it for her. And about Joshua.. Well, the Slytherin needed to tell somebody.
Popping a chocolate-covered strawberry into the palm of her hand, Erys slid it into her mouth, chewing. It was by far one of her favorite foods, combining fruit and chocolate in perfect harmony. Looking back at her best friend now, she wondered why V seemed so disappointed in her.

Releasing the wire-formed robin on her necklace from her fingers, V shook her head against her hand. Erys had seemed to independant, like V was all her life. They had so much in common that way, distaste towards practically everyone. And that had changed now. The boy wouldn't interrupt with their friendship, no, V was sure of that. She gave Erys space and time on her own all the time, time and space weren't problems in this. No, it was that Erys would be different. Compassionate, sappy, mushy. Soft. The thought of V living up to some boys standard was appalling, at it had seemed that way about Erys.
Until now.
"No, I won't tell him." She said, a hard edge in her voice, dismissive and cold. I don't even want to look at him, a voice in the back of her mind hissed, furious, livid. Part of her wanted to storm out of the common room and into the girls dorm, hiding behind the deep green curtains around her cushiony bed. And sleep, be content. But she wouldn't just walk out on a friend, no, she was at least nicer than that.

As if reading her mind, Erys narrowed her eyes, "I wont change because I like someone, Veata. I'm still as capable of kicking his ass, or anybody else. I'm not the romantic type, and besides that, theres no room for that crap in Slytherin." She followed the mantra of 'chicks before dicks', like all females should. But didn't. The seventh year was as hard and tough as ever, not to mention strong. "I dont have to impress anybody." Erys added coldly, the venom directed not at Veata but at.. The world. She cared strongly about Joshua, but that wouldn't change her personality.
I take it you disapprove? The animagus thought to herself, shaking her head. Whatever, just because V wanted to stay single forever didn't mean she wanted to. It wasn't as if she was some boy-crazy teenybopper who followed them around and drooled over their looks. She was cunning, calculating, and valued them for who they are, not just how attractive they were. Joshua was one of her close - if not best - friends. Her other best friend could at least be nice to him, he was a fellow Slytherin afterall. Erys could never date anyone outside her house.

Veata watched Erys with narrowed eyes, her pupils wide and circular in the dim common room, lit only by the fire burning in the fireplace. Her life's motto was to live for no one but yourself, and despite what Erys said, she wasn't doing that anymore. To start a romantic relationship with someone was to include them in your life, share your lives. Veata was far too catlike, interested in solitude and self-centeredness, not love and mushy butterflies. If she wanted to share her life with anyone, they would have to be just as selfish as she was, and not clingy at all. She cast one last disspaointed glance in Erys' direction before looking into the jumping, licking flames of the fire that caressed along the wood lovingly.
"I prefer to live for myself. You know, and not live up to someone elses standards," she said wearily, relaxing and pressing more of her weight into the squahy leather sofa. "But you can do what you want, it's not like I can tell you how to live your life." She offered a small, patient smile, never lifting her eyes from the flames to deliver it to Erys properly. "But I'll be your friend no matter who you date," she added more quietly, the small, strange smile still turning the corners of her lips upwards.
