Defence Against the Dark Arts - Lesson I -
A large notice had been magically stuck to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom door informing all of today’s students to divert instead down to the Great Hall.
Down in the Great Hall the double doors had been opened wide to show off the interior. The house tables had been vanished away, presumably down into the kitchens where the house elves would be trying to manoeuvre their way around all eight of them, trying hopelessly to prepare dinner for several thousand students.
Professor Starsmore was no where in sight, but a neat white circle - just big enough for someone to stand in - had been drawn on the floor in the very centre of the room, beckoning students forward...

Grace walked into the Great Hall. It was odd, not seeing the house tables. There was a sense of freedom now, her movements weren't restricted. She began to waltz by herself all around the hall, in elaborate circles. She was smiling to herself when she waltzed straight over a white circle. She stopped dancing and stepped out of the circle. She looked thoughtfully down at the circle, holding one elbow and tapping her chin with her forefinger. What's this about then? she thought.

Freya was surprisingly pleased to find out that DADA lessons would finally be starting again after all the misfortune surrounding the last teacher. She hadn't heard much about the latest staff appointment, which was particularly unusual for Hogwarts because even the best hidden secrets always seemed to get out.
The Ravenclaw walked down the staircase towards the main entrance, finding the choice of classroom particularly exciting. The Great Hall meant a practical, which above all else was what Freya enjoyed in lessons.
She walked across the stone flagged floor of the entrance hall, and slid through the slightly open door of the Great Hall. It was odd to see the hall without its familar house tables, even more so for it to be so void of people as well. Grace Marks, a Hufflepuff from her year, was stood on the outskirts of what looked to be simply a white circle.
'Any idea what this is all about?' Freya asked as she appeared next to the Hufflepuff.

Helia skittered down to the Great Hall, highly curious as to who the new Defense Teacher was. She saw Grace already there, and seeing no signs to be silent, smiled and said, "Hey. What's up?" she walked over to where the girl was standing and looked at the floor, "White circle... this is either good, or bad, or monotonous, what are your thoughts on the subject Miss Marks?" she held out an imaginary microphone to the Hufflepuff girl.

Grace looked up and saw Freya walking towards her quickly followed by Helia. "Hey guys!" she smiled. She looked back at the circle and let her arm hang on the other. "Empty hall means practical and I'm guessing here but I think this is where you stand." She hoped into the circle and faced the teachers table. Looking at her feet and all around, she asked, "look right?"

Grace got a shiver up her spin and once again, playfully, jumped out of the circle. "I guess we're going to be doing individual spells and stuff ..." she looked around at the faces around. They were all ravenclaws, she was feeling strangely left out but then something amiss. There was a new face. Grace smiled and introduced herself. "Hi!" she said, "You new? I'm Grace!"

Striker nervously entered the room, seeing that a few people were already there. With a slightl unease about his gait, Striker walked into the room and settled himself down in a corner, away from the others out of fear of meeting new people.

Jonathan had left the door behind the staff table slightly ajar so that he may observe the students while he waited for them to gather. He had been in the Great Hall for only a short while, magicking away the house tables and hexing the imprisonment circle into the stone floor. When all was over and done with there would be a permanent scar where it had been. Hopefully a few centuries of shoes walking atop of it would wear it away.
Two Hufflepuffs and three Ravenclaws had thus entered the room so far, all but one of them girls. He wondered if the absence of so many males was due to their belief that they could look after themselves – therefore not in need of an education in Defence Against the Dark Arts – or if it was just the usual tardiness and lack of enthusiasm teenage boys seemed to possess. The girls were restlessly pacing around the imprisonment circle, eying it curiously. The Hufflepuff he knew to be Grace jumped in and out of it playfully. Jonathan smirked, amused that she thought he would go to the trouble of such a perfect circle simply for them to stand in.
Silently he pushed open the door and entered the Great Hall, moving around the table until he was stood before it, directly ahead of the circle. None of the girls had as of yet noticed his presence, and he clapped his hands together sharply, drawing their attention. He put on an expression of pretend sternness.

Girty ran into the great hall clinging onto her bag. She looked around the almost empty room and noticed Professor Starsmore appear near the top end. With a very small smile Girty walked over towards the other Hufflepuffs. (particular Grace)
As he tried to get everyone else attention Girty dropped her bag on the floor and looked at the teachers stern face, finding it extremely hard not to giggle.

((Striker's a male!! -_-))
Striker heard a loud clap echo about the room, his eyes suddenly shifting towards the other end of the hall where a Professor stood. His eyes washed over the man, remembering a sudden discription of Hufflepuff's Head of House. With a slight smile, Striker nervously stepped away from the corner, feeling slightly sick as he made it half way over to a circle burnt into the floor.

Loren had been stood in the center of the doorway for a while, watching to other girls mill around the bizarre white line circle curiously, scuffing it with the toes of their shoes and jumping in and out of it daringly. She looked to her right and noticed a tall Hufflepuff boy sitting down against the wall, eying the group cautiously. He seemed very out of place.
The professor appeared now from the staff door, standing ahead of them grandly. Loren wondered if he really had appeared from nowhere or if he was purposefully being mysterious for the lesson. His hands were placed behind him back, his shoulders squared. He looked very serious.
Feeling singled out, Loren skittered over to the group and looped her arm through Grace's silently.

Nathan slowly jogged down the steps. He had read that the next Defence against the dark arts class would take place in the great hall. This actually made him feel better as they might for once do magic, instead of reading about it in books. As he walked into the hall, Nathan’s eyes narrowed and his heart sank. A hall full of Hufflepuff’s and Ravenclaw’s.
Taking a deep breath he stepped closer to the group of girls (he did notice the one male…but it was a Hufflepuff and thus means he is a girl. Nathan could still not get over the teacher of DADA was in fact the head of Hufflepuff) With a small bow of the head he acknowledged the teacher, but refused to associate with any of the other students.

Em sprinted lightly down to the Great Hall. She knew she was late, but considering she already landed herself in detention with Fagin for such things, she figured if she got another one it wouldn't make such a big difference.
She slid smoothly to a quick stop right behind a recently arrived Slytherin, almost bumping into him. Quickly taking a small step back, she turned to look where everyone else was looking, and spotted the teacher. She gave a small smile to him, hoping to stay on some sort of a good side. The Ravenclaw then turned to the Slytherin.
"Sorry for almost running into you there," Emily apologized, knowing the Slytherin would most likely give her some angry glare anyways.

Nathan felt a presence by him. Trying to ignore the fact a Ravenclaw nearly hit him he moved sideways a fraction to try and keep in his own space. Then to top it all off the Ravenclaw turned toward him and started to talk to him. As she apologised Nathan did her the decency to at least look at her. “Watch where you are going next time.”
Turing away from her he looked back to the front of the class waiting for the very silent teacher to start talking.
