Shabnam lay on her back at the foot of a huge tree, dead leaves and twigs tangled in her hair from where she had been rolling around, trying to get comfortable. The summer sun was flooding down through the surprisingly thin canopy, and Shabnam deduced that she had obviously found the most perfect, acest place in the entire Forbidden Forest - not a single monster in sight, and every tree was nearly dead.
Already she had carved her name along with 'hearts centaurs' and other such creatures into the brittle bark, and having exhausted herself with the work she now slumbered with her eyes closed, feet bare - they had got too hot - wand held loosely in her left hand.
She was dreaming about her, Jac and Girty trapped inside a huge crystal ball atop of Professor Vickers's desk. They were all screaming wildly to try and get his attention but he was too busy talking to a boy who was absolutely covered in time turners, all of them hanging off him by gold chains. The two male's refusal to acknowledge her and her friends was only made more degrading by the fact that Warren was standing over them holding a hammer that was nearly as tall as him, scowling slightly...

Nikole had gotten bored and had decided it would be a good idea to roam through the forbidden forest. The farther she walked the more she came to realize, it probably wasn't a good idea. With every step she took she doubted her choice of activity even more. As she kept walking she found herself in an area of the forest where nearly all the trees around her were dead. This wasn't a pleasant place in Nikole's opinion. Despite this she continued on.
Shortly into the area of dead trees, Nikole saw what seemed to be a person on the ground. When she got closer, she saw that it was a girl about her age, and the girl appeared to be asleep. Nikole made a look of disgust as she saw that the girl's hair was full of twigs and leaves, who would want lay down on this ground and get filthy. She combed her fingers through her own bright red hair to make sure it didn't look that bad. After a moment she decided to wake the girl, partly because she was lost and partly because she didn't think someone should be sleeping on the forest ground. She stooped down beside the girl and gently poked her shoulder. "Umm...excuse me," she said timidly.

Warren's scowl deepened and with impossible strength he lifted the giant hammer above his head, glaring down at Shabnam with a dark determination that said he was none too happy about squashing her, but he had to anyway. Before Shabnam even had a chance to cover her head it came down at lightening speed, Warren's hair flashing a vibrant red for a moment before the hammer whacked her... although it felt more like a poke in the shoulder than anything...
'Gosh.' Shabnam's eyes fluttered open, a gentle breeze brushing her face, the sun filtering down through a curtain of deep red hanging over her. Was it autumn already? How long had she been asleep? A girl's face came into focus and Shabnam blinked several times, trying to take the final step from dream to reality. 'Your hair is ace.' She said, sitting up and stretching her arms above her head, groaning as she realised how achy she was.
Something rough scraped her shoulder and Shabnam turned to look, several crisp brown leaves tumbling out of her messy blonde locks. 'Wow,' she laughed, running her hands through it, realising how tangled it was. 'I'm surprised you saw me - I blend in so well! You should come here in the autumn. You'd make an ace picture.' She grinned, looking at the girl again with sleepy eyes. 'I'm Shabs.'

Nikole laughed a little. "Thank you," she said with a friendly smile watching the girl comb the leaves out of hair. "I'm Nikole. It's nice to meet you Shabs," she said thinking about how strange a name that was. "I'm sorry if I disturbed your sleep. Of course I don't see how or why anyone would sleep on this forest floor." As she said this Nikole picked up a leaf and dropped it with the same look of disgust that she had when she had seen how horrid the girl's hair looked.
"And do you really think it wise to be taking naps in the forest?" Nikole could feel her knees getting sore from stooping down so she stood up and leaned against a nearby tree. She hadn't been aware of how tired this little walk through the forest had made her until just now.

'Nickole? Nickole and Shabnam... Shabnam and Nikole... don't we sound surreal together?' She nodded slowly, leaning back on her hands and crossing her legs. Her fingers raked gently at the leaves, some of them so old they crumbled effortlessly under her pale fingers. Only when her fingernails started to scrap at the moist earth underneath did she finally wiped them on her robes and stand up, turning to face Nikole. 'Your name means triumph. There's a statue of Nikole the Druidess in the Charms corridor - she even looks like you...'
Shabnam realised she was going off on another one of her thought tangents again, and laughed brightly, gently tucking her hair behind her ears. 'I really didn't mean to fall asleep. I just do it sometimes without meaning to, but I don't mind because I have these really ace dreams which always involve people I've never met before, but then I'll meet them for real a few days later, and it'll be totally magical, but then I'll - ' She stopped, closing her eyes. 'Sorry. I'm such a scatterbrain.'
She walked away from Nikole suddenly, beckoning for her to follow. 'You're a Ravenclaw aren't you, Nikole? I remember you from the Sorting Ceremony. The hat took ages on you, didn't it? What did it say to you?' She asked curiously, looking round at her as she picked up her shoes...

Nikole started following the girl, not that she had much of a choice; she had no clue how to get anywhere in this forest by herself. It seemed to her that this girl was a bit strange. Not that it was a bad thing, because it made the girl interesting, and interesting people can at times teach you the most. "Umm..." started Nikole astounded by the fact that the girl remembered her from the sorting ceremony. Personally, she couldn't remember anyone. "It was considering Hufflepuff for a while actually." Personally Nikole was glad it chose Ravenclaw over Hufflepuff. In her opion it was a better fit.
Nikole made another look of disgust as the girl picked up her shoes. She hadn't until just then realized the girl had been barefoot. "It probably isn't wise to walk barefoot through the forest," she said,"because you never know what you will step on."

'Yes, I can see how you're a Ravenclaw.' She smiled rubbing the dirt from between her toes before slipping on her first shoe, balancing precariously on one foot. 'You're nice like a Hufflepuff - very nice - but you've got... logic.' She mumbled, not very used to making rational observations of people. Usually she was more inclined to notice the colour of their eyebrows in conjunction with their hair, or how many freckles they had on their arms. 'Yes, definitely logic. I don't think I even have a real reason for being here. I just like this clearing I think... I didn't know it was here, but I knew I'd like it when I found it.' She nodded knowingly.
Putting her other shoe on she stood up straight again, placing her hands on her hips. 'There's nothing to be scared of, Nikole.' She smiled reassuringly, scuffing the earth with her toe. 'The only things under your feet that'll want you are the roots... but these are all dead, so you're alright, see? It's so safe here. Can't you feel the stillness?'
A jackdaw squawked loudly overhead now, a branch snapping as it took off in a hurry, something having startled it. 'What are you looking for, Nikole?' Shabnam titled her head to one side, observing her. 'It doesn't seem like you and the forest usually get along...'

Nikole looked at Shabs with a weak smile. "Well, it should be needless to say I don't care much for dirt or dead roots and leaves," she said looking around taking it all in. This girl was just so comfortable being out here. To her this place didn't seem safe. To be perfectly honest there could be things hiding all over the place. It was too still and too quiet for her liking. She didn't understand it and that bothered Nikole.
"Why do you like it out here so much?" she asked curiously. "What is it about this place that attracts you to it?" She looked down around her again, the look of disgust back on her face, but she really did want to see what the girl saw in the forest. And her curiousity always won over.
