Vanessa just didn't understand why everyone to her seemed so..immature and outrageously out of their league. Why did everyone here sit on dirt and wear baggy clothes? Why did they allow girls to take part in the school Quidditch team when it was a sport meant to be played by men? This entire place was seriously beginning to bug her, and there were certain things not even she could understand. Was it normal for teenage girls to wear blue jeans? She was brought up in skirts and dresses, so it wouldn't appear so. She pouted to herself, taking her light pink lip gloss out and gently applying it to her lips. She did this quite alot when she was deep in thought.
"Maybe.. I'm the real reject around here," said the Slytherin aristocrat, giving herself a small sigh. She crouched down a bit, running her fingers through the small body of water before her.

Zachary yelped as a twig, shaped exactly like a serpent attached itself to his robes. When he realised it was only a branch of sorts, he let out an agitated sigh and continued his digging.
There had to be some kind of profitable, gruesome item in the forest. Helia had come and gone plenty of times in her years at Hogwarts, collecting tons of rare animal parts that she could have easily sold for a number of galleons.
However, Zachary had succeeded only in finding a flobberworm breeding sight.
Grumbling to himself, he was about to retreat back to the castle when a voice reached his ears. Raising a brow, he traveled toward it , peering passed a bird's nest with rotting eggs perched inside.
"Obvious brooding exterior..." Zachary moved next to the girl, crossing his arms and watching her expression. "Arrogant demeanor. Superiority complex." Regarding Valentine with a small smirk, he shook his head.
"Hardly a Slytherin reject."

She gently brushed her fingers back through her blonde curls, giving a small sigh. Things were much easier when she was only a child and decisions were to be made for her when now, they only seemed to be against her. She had never seen a girl walk around the school as she did, always in skirts with her hair up or curled with makeup done to perfection. Alot of the other girls in her year had dirt beneath their finger-nails and didn't have the same poise that she always mantained.
Just as she shut her eyes something or..someone appeared behind her. "Pardon?" She began, slowly raising back onto her feet. "My family name is pure, I could give you that. Highly respected, but.. I'm afraid I don't sit well with this place. After all, I've never been to a place that let girls play manly sports and wear blue jeans on any old occasion," Nessa replied, eyeing him with a certain questioning. "My parents won't let me within five feet of a broom-stick."

Zachary frowned, before setting himself down beside the girl. Though, once he saw the murky state of the water, he chose to shift backwards a bit, his face distorted in disgust.
"Jeans?" Zach shuddered, slinging his bag off his shoulder and rummaging around for his lantern. "I really dislike Muggle clothes of all sorts. Especially jeans." He brushed off his own, ironed slacks importantly, before lighting the lantern in front of them.
"As for Quidditch however, our team would be rubbish without the girls. Even though I'd have to agree with you-- sometimes the talk of romance on the field is very unnerving." Rubbing the sole of his shoe on a mound of dirt, Zachary yawned.
"What are you doing out here anyway? Risking your neck to play with a puddle of water isn't exactly intelligent."

Vanessa placed a hand on either side of her hips, staring down at her thin black heels. She really shouldn't have worn them when walking through a forest where running is at times neccesary for survival. But, then again, It's not like she would wear anything else, including athletic shoes. "Well, I've never really worn pants of any kind. But some of these girls, they don't look like girls at all," she said, biting lightly into her lower lip. She didn't want to break the skin there.
"Girls aren't suppose to take part in sports like..Quidditch. Croquet I can understand, but you don't get as sweaty and, besides, girls would only get the players off task. They would pay more attention to the opposite sex than the game itself," Nessa explained, glancing back towards the direction she arrived in.
It took her a moment to reply to his next question, seeing as she got a bit spaced when thinking. "Well, I actually came out here to think a few things over. I use to think I was the best there was around here, but now I've finally discovered the truth.. I don't look like any of the girls here." A small frown curved across her lips. "And I don't think I like it much."

Zachary snorted, opening an eye and staring at her distressed form. "What on earth is crochet?" He asked in a dull voice. He wasn't particularly enjoying being the girl's diary, and was about to readily voice this when a deafening screech rang over their heads.
Zachary's first thought was that Vanessa's foot had slipped into the puddle of water.
The screech grew momentarily louder, as though it were right above their heads, before dying off into the distance. Zachary's eyes were wide as he looked back at the girl, the forest becoming deathly silent and even more eerie than before.
"Personally, I think it's about time girls got rid of their damsel in distress image," Zachary said in obvious fear. "Because if anything happens to us here, tonight, I'm certainly not going to be carrying you around like some sort of rotting log."

Vanessa's eyes went wide as something swooped down above their heads, immediately placing her hands on her head. Because if anything happens to us here, tonight, I'm certainly not going to be carrying you around like some sort of rotting log. "I wouldn't count on it," she said, her hands slowly moving away from her head. She placed one on her hip, gulping rather nervously. The creatures in this forest could kill them on cue.
She needed to be ready, in case something did decide to attack them. Vanessa took off her thin black heels, tossing them to the side. Another loud shriek was heard from above, and another. There were more than one of these things. "Bloody Hell.. Please tell me I wasn't the only one that heard that."

Zachary raised a brow as she threw off her heels, watching them tumble off into the mud. "I have to say, I never expected you to do that," he muttered, perhaps approvingly.
The shoes seemed to land on solid earth, but there was a sickening squelch as the dirt began to liquefy. The expensive heels, once spotless, soon were swallowed by the muddy ground.
Zachary sent Vanessa a look, wrinkling his nose at the perfectly good shoes gone to waste, before nodding at once. "Definitely weren't the only one to hear that--" He said, feeling panic swell in his chest. Then, he nudged her with his elbow when the silence enveloped them again, before breaking out in a run.
Whatever creature was watching them noticed, the shrieks getting louder. A skeletal hand reached out for him, and Zachary stumbled back, knocking into Vanessa.
"Banshees." He breathed, shakily.

Vanessa paid no attention to her heels as they sunk down into the Earth, her heart pounding within her chest. "I'm not as stupid as people think. Those shoes aren't worth my life," she muttered beneath her breath, taking a shakey step back. As soon as she felt his elbow go up against her rib cage, she broke out in a run.
The reason she ditched her shoes was now clear. "Z-Zack.. B-B-Banshees only c-c-cry when someone's about to die," she muttered to him, her hands beginning to shake with fear. She reached into her pocket, hoping to find her wand. It must have dropped while she was running. "My wand's gone," she said more to herself, stumbling back a bit more.

"Die?"
The whispered words created a long pause of silence between them. Zachary felt his chest clench uneasily, heart rate quickening as he stumbled back further as though that would keep him safe.
A cry rang out once more, this time cutting clear through the air and causing near-by trees to shudder. "Your wand?" He said worriedly, sending her a look. "When did you have it last?"
He remembered her shoes sinking into the mud, and flashed his lantern at the spot with a trembling arm deciding that's where her wand must have disappeared at. "We have to dig," He said finally, falling onto his knees and pulling away numerous twigs. "It won't be possible for me to fend off any banshees on my own."
A wave of moonlight suddenly washed over the forest, illuminating the skeletal figure looming toward them. Green, bony fingers wrapped in sickly looking skin reached out in a strangely entrancing way, as another shriek erupted from the creature. Taking in a sharp breath, Zachary aimed his wand at it about to utter a spell when he suddenly began to feel dizzy.
His own wand felt limp in his fingers and he covered his ears instantly, the forest becoming a swirl of colour in front of him. It was common knowledge that the shriek of a banshee could kill you if uttered at the right pitch.
"Forget your wand," He said as his vision grew spotty. Though it was a high-risk leaving her source of magic in the forest, it was just like discarding her shoes. Necessary for survival.
Then, although he promised not to lug her around like a rotting twig, he grabbed her by the sleeve of her robes and forced her to follow him although not knowing exactly where he was leading them.

Vanessa shoved her long blonde hair into the back of her robes, making sure it was out of her way. Bye bye manicure. She kneeled down into the mud, her knees sinking down into it. Damn school skirts. She began to dig her hands through the mess, the muck going down into her finger nails and all the way up her arm. "All I see is more mud!" She nearly shouted, growing desperate.
When another shout erupted she began to tense, unable to scream in pain. Her ears seemed to sting, and she couldn't take it much longer. "I'm coming, I'm coming," she said quickly, following behind him.
Then.. aha! An idea! "Copy me," she demanded, moving her arm away from him but following close beside. She took her robe off and no matter how ridiculous it looked, tore a strip of fabric from it. She tied it over her ears and around her head, making sure the tie was at the very top of her head. It looked sort of like a bandage you'd wear if you had a tooth-ache. Vanessa tore a piece off for him aswell, handing it over. She had various other robes she could wear later, if they survived. The fabric was just to protect their ears.

Zachary tied his own around his ears while wearing a scowl, glancing at a nearby puddle to see his reflection. "This is riduclous," he sulked, the knot bobbing enthusiastically on his head.
Though, he was certain she could only hear him very faintly, if at all, and grimaced as he nodded, leading them behind a large tree covered in moss. The twigs entwined rigidly with one another, brambles catching onto his robes slowing them down. After a particular branch jabbed him repeatedly in the side, he finally pulled out his wand looking furious.
"Incendio!"
Flames erupted from his wand, lighting the tree in a brilliant fire. There was a low howl in the distance, vibrating the ground beneath them before the banshee shrieked in rage.
Of course, his bandage caused Zachary to miss everything but the deep vibration, and he smirked looking pleased with himself.
He sidestepped the dwindling fire -- none of the other trees seemed to effected, and Zachary didn't even want to know what strange force was protecting them -- and found himself leading them to a dry area that was void of murky puddles and dotted with very few trees. On one side there was a slope of muddy grass that led to a pile of rocks, and Zachary stepped toward the rocks eagerly.
"You know," He said thoughtfully, his mind back on the prospect of galleons. "I heard Muggles mine gold in places like this--" Pulling off the largest rock from the pile, he stumbled back in surprise as a gruesome looking slug slipped out from underneath it.
"Eugh!" A slimy substance was coating his fingers and he moved back to Vanessa, looking thoroughly disgusted. Though, it only took moments for what seemed like hundreds of impossibly large slugs to surround them.
Then they abruptly caught on fire, lighting the dark forest in an instant.
Zachary cursed as he turned back to the tree he earlier set fire to, watching the branches quiver before turning to ash. "The fire must've attracted them," he said with a grimace, stepping back.

Vanessa glanced down at her own reflection while she was at it, eyes wide. "Oh my God. I'm ugly!" She exclaimed, fists clenching tightly. She kept them at her sides, walking quickly behind him. Not only did she look ridiculous, but her feet were getting absoloutely disgusting from the ground. She was surprised she hadn't stepped into a thorn patch with her luck.
"Are you insane!?" She shouted at him, her jaw dropping. "You're going to attract.. FLESH EATING SLUGS. OH MY GOD!" She shrieked, climbing on top of one of the bigger boulders. "I'm not wearing shoes, Zach!" Vanessa was completely frozen in place; she needed to think.
"Give me your wand," she said through gritted teeth, snatching it from him. "We need.. Flesh Eating Slug Repellent, which we don't have. So.. We're going to need to jump over them." Vanessa took a deep breath. She wasn't wearing shoes. Oh joy.

Zachary winced at her voice, able to hear it despite the cotton on his ears. "You shriek louder than a banshee, you know," he muttered, pulling at the knot of the makeshift earmuff distractedly.
"You're not getting my wan--" She pried it from his hand at once, barely giving him a chance to protest and he scowled immediately. "You're going to lose it and then where will we..." He trailed off. The wand which he had been gripping was now coated in a thick slime, just as his hand had been. There was a sharp hiss as it slowly began to disintegrate.
"No! Not my wand!" A burning sensation began on his ankle, and he swiveled around to see a large slug sliding up his pant leg. Shaking it off desperately, he flung it across the small clearing and quickly stumbled over to the rocks Vanessa was standing on. Taking the wand from her hand, he sighed loudly and looked away as he snapped it in half so it wouldn't dissolve any faster.
"It'll be weaker than before." He said, obviously put out. "But it'll still work. What do you expect we do now? Jump over them?" He scoffed, kicking off one of the slugs that had dared to climb the rocks with a grimace. "I'm not a horse you know," he said haughtily.
Apparently the slugs could jump as well, because one instantly attached itself to Zachary's hair, and the boy let out a loud yelp. One that could rival the banshee's that followed.

The defeaning shrieks of the damned banshee resounded throughout the forest, the echoes rebounding unnaturally from tree to tree; eventually reaching a roving centaur. He trotted along at a fair pace, picking out the best pathways through the tangled forest, bow held loosely between his strong fingers on hearing the cry his hooves ground into the earth bringing him to an abrupt halt. He span around, his ears picking out from which direction the cry had come from; heading towards it quickly he broke into a quick canter, as more cries broke the deathly silence.
The forest whispered keenly to him, and he heard the cry of a dying tree; burnt to a cinder he guessed as the smell hti his flaring nostrils. A grim look upon his rugged features he redoubled his speed, galloping swiftly past groping trees which ceased their advances as he swept by; the forest was in danger and he would heed its call.
He'd had no time to form expectations, but the sight that met his eyes was quite unbelievable; two small human foals struggling desperately for survival. Without thinking natural instinct took over and he sprang forward directly towards the humans perched upon the rocks. Immediately notching an arrow to his bow, he flexed and let loose piercing the slug upon the boy's head; the force of the blow flung the offending creature away pinning it mercilessly into the rocks behind. Notching another arrow he neared them beckoning urgently for them to both jump upon his back.
"Looks like the stars are with you this day, will half-horse do?," He called knowing the banshee was likely to be advancing upon their position, as if to push them into action another ear splitting shriek sounded. "Come," he commanded urgently reaching out to help them onto his back. As more slugs darted out of rocky culverts Valunce stamped his hooves, crushing one beneath. "I mean you no harm."
