It was now or never; she had been letting those five simple words run through her mind since ignoring the world for the past few days. Was she nervous? Bloody hell, yes. Talking meant letting things come up she didn't want to come up. Like feelings. Feelings were for normal people, not Slytherins. But she was damned the first moment she was forced from the life of an aristocrat and placed in this bloody house. "So much for aristocratic immunity," she muttered beneath her breath, having recieved a detention for skipping earlier that day. Her father was bound to kill her.
She dressed in a simple, well dressed school uniform, legs folded off to the side. She was actually sitting on the ground, and not freaking out because of dirt and bugs. Things sure had changed for Vanessa.

Maria walked out to the lake looking for some peace and quiet. She quietly strolled along the shore, consumed with her own thoughts. Thinking she heard a voice she pulled herself back to reality and looked about.
Nearby sitting on the ground, Maria saw someone who she had only spoken to once before and that time was eventful to say the least. However, something seemed strange to Maria. She would have never thought Vanessa Valentine would sit on the ground with the dirt and the bugs.
After a moment of contemplating it, Maria walked over to Vanessa. Maria had gotten the feeling that this girl didn't like her very much the last time they met, but she wasn't going to let that stop her. "I wouldn't have guessed you'd be one to sit on the ground," she said when she got close to Vanessa.

Vanessa lifted her head, giving a big, fake smile. "I wouldn't have guessed you'd be one to talk to me," she said simply, raising a hand to run it back through her hair. She moved herself to lay across the dirt, hands resting behind her head.
"You're that one Hufflepuff girl, right?" Nessa questioned, eyebrows raising. She would have told her off by now, but Vanessa just wasn't in the mood for such things. She had more to worry about.

Maria let out a short laugh. She did not like being referred to as "that one Hufflepuff girl." "Yeah, but I have a name you know. Although, I suppose high and mighty aristocrat, Vanessa Valentine, can't be bothered with remembering names of little people such as myself," she said sarcastically.
Maria was actually surprised that Vanessa wasn't really being rude, and it was a pleasant surprise. "Sorry, to be so rude. And actually I will talk to anyone...even people who believe themselves to be more important than they actually are," she said with a sweet smile. "But what does bring someone such as yourself out here? And I would have just assumed you'd be above laying down on the dirt," Maria said in a curious tone.

Vanessa rolled her eyes at the girl. She just wasn't in the mood for this at the moment, and would much rather sit back and relax. "I'm not in the mood for sarcasm," she muttered beneath her breath. "I was just thinking..about stuff," Nessa said, staring up towards the sky.
She gave a soft sigh, fingers running back through her blonde locks. "Oh, yeah.. Sorry. Your name's.. Elizabeth or something, yeah?"

Maria sat down on the ground. "No, actually it's Maria. And sorry about the sarcasm, but in my defense the last time we met you weren't exactly the nicest person in the world." Maria noticed that something was bothering Vanessa, but didn't want to be nosy and ask about it.
After a moment, Maria realized that the girl probably couldn't like her any less than she already did. "Is something wrong?" she asked trying not to sound nosy. "Of course, if you would rather not talk about it..."

She frowned, more to herself, moving to lay flat on the grass. "Oh, nothing," she said, growing nervous. "Just the fact that I got a detention and now I have to get married," Nessa said somewhat angrily, fists clenching into tight balls.
"I don't even know the guy," she continued, slowly inhaling and then exhaling. "But you'd know nothing about that."

Maria smiled a bit. To her a detention was no big deal, but to someone who was supposed to be above the, it must be just awful. "Well..." Maria said starting but then stopping to think. "You are right; I know nothing of that. Except perhaps that it would be a horrible fate to befall someone. But I guess it comes with being an aristocrat. Everything has it's downfalls," she said looking at Vanessa sympathetically. She actually felt sorry for the girl; something Maria never thought she would do.
"And the detention, isn't as big a deal as you think. Just because aristocratic immunity doesn't extend to school, doesn't mean you should let it bother you." Maria said this and tried to imagine herself in Vanessa's shoes. That was a difficult task. The thought made her smile. "I guess being someone as important as yourself isn't all it seems. Huh? I suppose I would just as soon have my normal life."
