Ashton slowly made his way down to the lake. Then as if in a trance, sank to his knees; he had just received another letter from his father, Daniel. Why did his father always blame him for everything? This time it was about the electric bill. How the hell was that his problem? As Ashton sat there, his mind conjured up that terrible and vivid memory of his last beating. It had been the last day of summer holiday last year before he had started at Hogwarts…
Flashback: Ashton opened the door as quietly as quietly as he could, closed it, and began to sneak down the hallway to his room. With any luck he could make to his room without alerting his father, and he’d never know that Ashton had ever even been out of the house. Unfortunately, the harsh, sudden voice told him otherwise. “Where the hell have you been!?” Ashton whirled around, to see his father who was of course drunk. “Out.” He answered, simply and truthfully hoping that his father would leave him alone and let him go to his room. Unfortunately that was not the case. SMACK! The sound resounded throughout the room; Ashton stumbled back, placed a hand up to his cheek and looked up at his father, fear written in his eyes. He knew that the worse was yet to come. “Have I not told you that you are not to leave this house without my permission?” Daniel asked, breathing hard. Ashton just stared at him. Suddenly his father slammed a fist into his gut and Ashton cried out and crumpled to the floor. Daniel reached down, grabbed a handful of Ashton’s hair, and dragged him to his feet. He smacked Ashton again, screaming at the top of his lungs, “Answer me!” Ashton’s answer was barely audible. “Yes.” He whispered. “Yes, what?” Daniel spat reaching for Ashton’s wrist and twisting it. Ashton screamed in pain. “Yes, you did tell me to stay in the house!” he sobbed. “And you disobeyed me, didn’t you!?” Daniel demanded. “Yes.” Ashton whispered, keeping his eyes down. He had learned long ago that when his father was mad, he was not to look him in the face, it would only get him beaten worse. Daniel released his wrist, but Ashton knew better than to be relieved. And sure enough his father went into the next room and came out with a thick, black leather belt that was covered with metal studs. Ashton’s eyes widened as he saw the belt, and he began to back away. “No. Please, no!” he whispered, backing away. Unfortunately he could only go so far before he backed himself into the corner, and with every step he took back, Daniel advanced. Ashton fell to his knees. He was now sobbing, begging, pleading. “Please! Don’t!” he cried. Daniel just smiled maliciously and raised the belt, Ashton screamed as the blows rained down on him. He put up his arms, to protect his head and face and cried out in pain as the metal studs bit into the soft flesh. The last thing he remembered before passing out from the pain was Daniel’s voice; screaming at him. Telling him how worthless he was. Then, blackness.
Ashton sat there, shuddering at the vividness of the memory. It was almost as if he could feel the belt again. A tear ran down his cheek, as he contemplated his life. What had he done to deserve this? Ashton took a deep breath, and bit his lip, hoping to hold in the tears. But this just released them. Ashton sank to the ground, lay there and just cried. He wished Maxi were with him.
((If the flashback scene is too graphic I can edit it, I just wanted people to see what it's like to live in an abusive home. I have friends who have abusive parents, so I kinda have an idea what it's like. but if it's too graphic, I'll edit it.))
