It was a beautiful day. One of those rare sunny days where the clouds were few and far between and it was warm, a right deal warmer then it usually was with all the storms going on so a delightfully balmy day. It was one of those days where you couldn't find a sensible student in doors for everyone was taking advantage of the wonderful day.
Grace was on such student. She was sitting on a lovely patch of soft green grass on a rise between the lake and the castle, over looking the lake. She was watching a few students swimming, apparently unafraid of the squid, and there was a small group of Slytherin girls tanning. Grace thought it was such a silly task, tanning indeed, they were British after all and after a few hours in the sun they all went lobster pink. Well a majority did. "Well I do," Grace said with a huff.
Ignoring them, Grace lay down on the grass and looked up and the sky. It was very blue today and the bright sun made her close her eyes. She wondered where all the other were. She had not seen much of Bog or Girty lately, probably doing the censible thing and studying but Grace could hardly be bothered to do anything of the sort when the day was as fine as it was today.

Maria walked along the lake shore with more bounce in her step than usual. There seemed to be quite a few people around. And why wouldn't they be? After all it was an extraordinarily beautiful day.
After walking for a while she saw Grace sitting in the grass nearby. Even though she hadn't talk to Grace outside of quidditch practice, she was alone, so Maria walked over to her. After all Maria did need to quit being such a loner.
"Hello," she said with a cheery smile, sitting down next to Grace. "And how are you on this lovely day?"

Grace had been watching two Ravenclaws playing with a pigmy puff by the lake when someone sat next to her. She turned to see Maria sitting next to her. Grace smiled with obvious delight. "Maria," she said, surprised, "how lovely to see you." Grace crossed her legs and turned a little so she could face Maria.
"I am wonderful, thank you very much," she smiled, "and how about yourself?" The loveliness of the day was doing wonders on her mood. She had been struggling lately with nightmares, exam stress, and general worry about everything. It was nice to just get out and get away from all that.

"I'm excellent," Maria said in her usual cheery tone. Most of the time Maria was a very happy person and this was no exception. How could anyone not be happy on such a beautiful day. A sudden thought occured to Maria and she fell back onto the ground and looked up at the clouds.
She laughed a little as she started to pick shapes out of the clouds. It had been so long, since she had done this. Actually now that she was sixteen you would think that such childish things wouldn’t amuse her so much, but they did. “It is…a whale,” Maria said looking at a particularly large cloud. For a moment she forgot that Grace was there. “Oh, sorry,” Maria said sitting up, slightly embarrassed. “I was just admiring the clouds.”

"That's wonderful," Grace said, smiling cheerfully at the new friend she had made. It was a beautiful day and even more wonderful now that she had some company. She looked over the grounds and smiled as she noticed just how many people were taking advantage of the beautiful day.
Suddenly Maria lay down. Grace turned around and looked at her. She was staring at the sky. Grace, frowning and not understanding, looked up to see what was so fascinating. "A whale?" she repeated absently. "O..." she said slowly realising. Grace laughed as Maria sat up. "Don't worry I do that too," she said, smiling up at the sky, "never too old for a little cloud gazing, I always say."
Grace lay down now and knotted her fingers together on her stomach. She looked at the clouds slowly making their way by. She pointed at a long wonky cloud and said, laughing, "that one looks like Fagin's nose." She laughed at the thought of a thousand foot long face as ugly as Fagin's. Then, realising how rude that thought was, she clapped a hand to her mouth and said, pointing to another cloud, "and that one looks like a griffin."

Maria fell back down on the ground laughing. Looking up at the clouds she said, "You're right that does look like a griffin." She closed her eyes and enjoyed the warmth of the sun on her skin. After a moment of this she let out a big yawn. "I believe I could go to sleep right here," she said with the sleepiness in her voice.

Grace rolled her head so she could look at Maria. She reached over her head and poked her in the side. "Oy!" she said indignantly, "don't be falling asleep on me." She laughed and had to agree with her. The warm sun was making her sleepy too. But she could sleep later, not now. Grace jumped to her feet and before she could stop herself she had her wand in her hand and she was pointing it at Maria.
"Aguamenti," she said, and a jet of spring clear water flooded from her wand and splashed all over Maria. The jet of water didn't last long but it lasted long enough to completely soak Maria. Grace bit her lip and a slight giggled escaped her lips. "O dear me," she said, sitting down next to Maria, "I'm so sorry, I don't know why I did that." She frowned intensely at the girl and begged her forgiveness with her lake blue eyes.

Maria sat up completely soaked, giggling. "No problem," she said between giggles. "Now, I don't feel the need to sleep anymore though." Maria started to ring some water out of her robes, still laughing. "Well, you know, Grace, I could've just went and jumped in the lake and I think I might have come out a little drier than this."

Grace felt so embarrassed at her rash behaviour. She had a hand to her mouth and she was frowning. "Spongify," she said, pointing her wand at Maria again. She sat down next to her again and put her wand away. "I don't know what came over me," she said, "i must be spending too much time with Jac." Grace laughed and looked at Maria again with concern in her eyes. "I really am very sorry," she said.

Maria laughed at the girl for her multiple apologies. "Don't worry about, it's no problem. You're forgiven, as long as you quit apologizing," she said with a big smile. "And besides look now all dry." Maria said then started giggling uncontrollably. She just couldn't help herself.

Grace sighed and nodded her head. "No more apologising," she said, "got it." She giggled with Maria when she giggled. Grace was still confused as to why she had done such a rash thing however, it was done and she had to move on. Grace dug in her pocket and pull out a shiny silver bag. She offered it to Maria and asked, "cauldron shaped sweet? They're very tasty."
