Gabe grumbled under his breath as he trailed down the steps that led to the dungeons. It was midnight. Maybe a little bit past and this was how he would be spending the next few hours. How lucky he was to be on patrol and of all places, in the dungeons. It was a known fact that this was where plenty of students would escape to. Hardly anyone was ever down here. It was cold and damp, and just a little creepy if you couldn't handle the dimly lit corridors.
Gabe stifled a yawn, his footsteps echoing throughout the corridor. He had his wand in one hand, twirling it absentmindedly between his fingers. So far, everything was quiet. If he was lucky, it would be an easy shift. A few times when he had been on patrol he had caught students roaming around. He never handed out detentions if it was their first time being caught by him. Gabe understood the need to want to get out. He had been a student here only 4 years earlier. If they were a repeat offender though, then they were probably in trouble.
He knew plenty of the students by face, a few by name. He hadn't been here very long and was only an assistant teacher. A student teacher, if you will. Yet the students knew him as well. Afterall, he was the only professor of his kind in the entire castle. Gabe yawned again, turning the next corridor. The end of his wand was lit, leading his way in the dark. It was going to be a long night.

Alex was relaxing in the dungeon to get away from the loud students until he remembered that they have patrols down in this area.. He quickly got up and ran to the nearest exit until he saw a man patrolling the area around it. "Oh God." he said under his breathe before walking out toward the man who seemed to know this place well.
"Why hello, I'm Alex Goth but everyone just calls me Alex." He said pulling his hand out of his pocket to shake the other man's hand.
"You've got a pretty fun job." he said sarcastically to the man that he could barely see.

Not even a full hour had passed since Gabe had first entered the dungeons. The only living, breathing creatures he had run into were a couple of mice and some bugs. Not very pleasant company, but it was better than dealing out detentions to some rebellious students. If he was lucky, his patrol would run smooth and he would soon be back in his own quarters. He had classes to teach tomorrow, lessons to plan, things to do. Gabe shook his head. He was being such a drama queen over nothing. It was just the fact that this dungeon patrol was ridiculous.
Gabe turned the next corner, his arm brushing against the damp wall. He stopped suddenly. Listening intently, he heard footsteps heading down the corridor towards him. " Just fantastic..." He mumbled under his breath. He supposed it was a student, wondering about. Gabe sighed and dimmed his wand light. He would just give them a quick warned and send them on their way. He leaned one shoulder against the walls, his wand still at his side. As the figure approached, Gabe narrowed his eyes as he tried to distinguish the figure in the dark. In the dim glow of the low burning torches, Gabe soon realized it was not a student, but another professor. Good news for him.
Gabe took the man's outstretched hand as hs introduced himself. " Gabe Hartman." He replied back, giving Alex his own name. He recognized him now. Alex was the Occulemency professor here at the school. Though he had never spoken to him before, Gabe had heard of him and seen him briefly around the school a few times. Gabe let out a short, sarcastic laugh. " Tell me about it. And my patrol has only just started." He sighed, lighting his wand back up.

"Ah, well in about an hour you'll will probably catch some couples mistaking this for a make-out session. Other than that and a couple of stragglers you'll be fine." he said still uncomfortable in a dark room with someone he had barely seen. "I'm not trying to be rude, but what do you teach?" he asked because he had never seen this man's postition other than Professor.

Gabe rolled his eyes, leaning against the stonewall next to him. " Merlin, I hope not. I really don't want to walk in on something like that." He said. " Stragglers are fine to deal with. Don't mind that." He added, shrugging his shoulders slightly. He twirled his wand expertly between his fingers, watching the light at the end of his wand before looking back at Alex.
He let out a laugh, running a hand through his dark curls. " You're not being rude, it's fine. You probably haven't seen me around much yet." He said, shrugging his shoulders. " I'm assistant teacher for Charms." Gabe explained. " I'm just finishing school this year, so for now, I can't really teach my own class, but I can help out and sort of learn how to deal with students." He smiled slightly. " What do you teach?"

[ I hope you don't mind if I join in ]
Diana had spent a good couple of hours out in the Kitchens. She had woken up and sleeping was near impossible for her. For some reason she couldn't go back to sleep so she decided that if she got something to eat, it would help her sleep. As well, because the kitchens weren't too far she was sure she'd be fine.
Walking out of the kitchens with her stomach filled with a couple of cookies and milk, she still wasn't sleepy. Diana was surprised that she had not seen any teacher's it was an odd thing for her. Usually she would catch herself hiding and but she had never been caught before. Walking through another corridor she hissed to herself, "Is there nothing to do when the school is asleep and you can't do the same!"
It was really bothering her now. Come tomorrow she would be tired and in a not so fabulous mood. Coming from a girl like Diana, one of the only nice Slytherins' or so they tell her, that might be something to fear. As she walked on her head pounded with different thoughts.

Gabe paused in mid-yawn, suddenly hearing footsteps. He listened closer, wondering if he was just imagining it. Nope. They were clear as day and headed in this direction. Gabe let out a sigh, rolling his eyes slightly. " Here we go." He said to Alex, giving him a grin. He was wondering when a student would show up. So far, it had been quiet all evening which was unusual. " Knox." He said quietly and the light at the end of his wand went out. He had learned not to keep your wand lit when students approached. They tended to see the light, freak out, and run off. Then Gabe was left with the choice of chasing after them or ignoring it. It all depended.
He leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest as he waited for the student to start down this corridor. Maybe it was a teacher. Who knew. Yet as the footsteps came closer, Gabe would have to find out. " If that's a student, I hope you know it's after curfew." He spoke suddenly, breaking the silence. He lit the end of his wand once more to see a girl standing just a few feet down the hall. She looked a little irritated. Gabe gave her a small smile. " What's your excuse?" He asked.

Diana had been in her own world when she noticed a voice speak. She had been caught, oh well, she thought to herself. It really hadn't been her fault, but she would take whatever they gave her. She had been given detention various times now, not for sneaking out, never for sneaking out, but for having someone get on her last nerve and her 'attacking' them. Diana, of all the Slytherin's, was the 'nice' one and so if you got her mad she would attack, she only bit when she was provoked.
Looking up at one of the hottest teachers she had ever met, she looked away. Did she just think that, she was in utter surprise with herself. Deciding to leave that thought somewhere else she looked back up at him, her crystal blue eyes meeting his. Leaning against the wall, she sighed. "No excuse, I couldn't sleep and I thought a walk could change that," she spoke truthfully. It wasn't the entire story but it was truthful.

"Occlumency," he said then seeing that the professor had caught a student. It was a student who had attended his class, Diana. "Hey, you know I could tell if your lying if I wanted to." he said sarcastically, he didn't really care if she wandered, she was a good student.

Gabe smiled, slightly surprised. " No excuse? That's a first. You wouldn't believe some of the things I've been told. Anything to get out of trouble." He sighed. He had heard everything from 'I'm lost', to 'my cat caught on fire'. And then there was always those who gave his favorite excuse which was 'I don't know'. Of course you know why you were sneaking out. You just don't want to tell. " Since this is the first time I've caught you sneaking out, I won't hand out a detention. Plus I understand completely. No one likes being cramped in those dorms all night and day." Gabe said making a face." I know I didn't." He remembered what that was like. Afterall, he had been a student here only about 4 years earlier.
He took a closer look at the girl. He thought he recognized her from a class. " Diana, right?" He asked, hoping he was right. " Forgive me if I'm wrong. You're a Slytherin student." He did remember that. She was one the rare Slytherins who didn't cause too much trouble. The rest of them were an obnoxious, wild bunch.

Just a few minutes earlier, Narcissa had been innocently sitting in an armchair inside the common room. Getting restless, she had decided to go for a walk. She had already been down the corridors, and through the kitchens. Narcissa was about to return to her dorm when she saw Diana, who was also up wandering the corridors.
She tried to catch up with her before she reached the dungeons, but she ended up following her inside. Once she got in, she wasn't sure which was Diana had went. Wishing she was still in the warmth of her common room, she heard the distant voice of Diana. Just so this trip wasn't completly pointless, she decided to find her.
After following her voice for a good few minutes, she came across Diana, and someone she didn't expect to find. She had just unexpectedly walked up to a professor. Knowing she was going to get some kind of punishment for being out of bed so late, she approached Diana, pulling her hair into a low ponytail.

Diana looked at Professor Goth. She smiled her usual smile when he said he could tell if she was lying. "I don't care I'm not lying and therefore you're wasting your time," she spoke truthfully. "Anyways, one day, with your help I will learn to prevent that," she smiled and then looked back over at Professor Hartman.
"Well I'm not like everyone else," she said simply to his response of her not giving an excuse. "If I don't have to lie then I won't, it's easy and it works," she spoke lightly. "Ha, yeah the common room does get boring but the inability to sleep is a bit more stressful, in my opinion," she flashed him a smile.
"Yes, Diana Fortuna," her crystal blue and unfortunately wide awake eyes met his. "And yes again, Slytherin is my house," she smiled and then heard footsteps. Turning her head in the direction she gave a what-are-you-doing look to Narcissa. If she heard her voice why did she follow it, she thought to herself. "Hello dearie," she laughed lightly at the coincidence and met her eyes. "What makes you prowl around at this hour," she smiled at her and gave a sigh. Diana was not going to be able to sleep tonight, oh well.
