Ariane stormed down the stairs and into the Great Hall. No sleep plus it being a Monday made Ariane a time bomb that was about ready to explode. Ariane slammed her stuff down beside her and plopped down onto the bench at the Hufflepuff table and Accio-ed the coffee pitcher over to her, filling up her mug.
She then spooned about 2 1/2 spoonfuls of sugar into it and dumped in the cream. Ariane startted sipping the coffee, swallowing the steaming hot liquid and starting to feel just a wee bit better as the coffee made a warm spot in her stomach.
Pitty the fool who came up to her smiling and ready for a good day.

Luckily for Caitlin, there was nothing that this disgruntled Hufflepuff could do to dampen her day. Caitlin floated a little to her left and behind her. She watched with a depressed frown on her shimmering white face. What does she have to be upset about? At least she can have coffee. Caitlin floated up and over the table, the trail of her once blue dress gliding through it. She turned and put her face level to the Hufflepuff's face. "Bad day?" she asked, concerned as she usually did for any people.

Ariane jumped, surprised at the sudden voice beside her. She recognized Caitlin as one of the ghost that were seen floating around frequently. "I just got a letter from my father" she said angrily "But you don't want to know all about my screwed up family."
Ariane took another deep draught of the steaming coffee and swished it around her mouth.

Caitlin laughed mirthlessly. All her joy seemed to have died with her. She floated down, crossing her legs and soon was 'sitting' across from the Hufflepuff she had struck the conversation up with. She leaned lazily on the table and had to concentrate on not going right through it. She cocked her head to one side, then the other, then back again and put her chin in her up-turned palm.
"If you have time," she said slowly, "I have eternity and nothing better to do then to talk to you, even if it's only for a little while. So, I would be honoured to hear about your ..." she faltered, "family." She did not, as a principle, use rude of derogatory words about people she didn't know. Her high standards didn't fall when all else seemed to. "My attention is yours until you want to leave." She offered a sad smile and blinked at the girl.

Ariane swallowed roughly "It's hard for me to talk about my family, do ya mind if we chat about something else?" she mumbled quietly "I don't have anything agaist you, it's just... me." Ariane wrinkled her nose slightly and grinned at the ghost floating by her. "THe reality of it all is my father is horrible and after this year I'm going to get a job at the Leaky Cauldron and live there." she nodded her head feircly.

Caitlin was solemn. She nodded as she floated up and down and listened carefully. It was clearly a sensitive subject and Cait did not push the issues. However, a sight glimpse of what was bothering the young girl let Cait in on one simple truth, life was hard whether you were dead or not. It was hard growing up, that was for certain, but all had to get through it.
This girl seemed to be wanting to grow up too fast on the other hand. It was heart ranching to see youth wasted on such trivia. She cocked her head and leanedher chin on her up turned palm. "Why is it that you feel you need to get a job at fourteen?" Caitlin said flatly. She cocked her head and smiled weakly.

Ariane tilited her head slightly "I don't need to but if Tom's going to let me stay at the Cauldron, I don't think he's going to let me stay there for free. Not both room and board anyways." she smiled a little "Besides, I like work. It let's me not focus on the stuff going on around on the outside"

Caitlin watched the Hufflepuff carefully. She was very much for working at her young age. There was certain freedoms and responsibilities that came with getting a job and this girl seemed to bear it well enough for such a young, small thing. Cait scratched the side of her face, well, looked like she did but she more then likely she went through last tear already.
"Do your parents not work?" Cait asked, "is that why you need to get some money?"

Ariane laughed "Oh, my parents work. That's all they ever do" she said bitterly. "That and fight." she said "That's why they're divorced and my brother lives with my grandparents. That's why I don't talk to my mum ever, and that's why I don't want to talk to my father. They blame everything on me and I'm sick of it" she pounded her fork down on her plate and it shattered "Oh for crying out loud.
She pulled out her wand "Reparo" she said tiredly and layed her head on her arms.

color=White]Caitlin was taken aback by the outburst and the cracking of crockery. She glided through the table and perched herself above the bench next to the young Hufflepuff as though she was sitting next to her. She lifted a hand to pat the girl’s shoulder consolingly but thought better of it as it occurred to Caitlin that she mightn't like Boone chilling comfort of that nature form a ghost she had just met. So she dropped her hand and nodded appreciating the girl's circumstances.
There wasn't much for her to say, anything that might sound sincere and heartfelt so she didn't say anything on the matter. It was clear that this was a sore point for her and Cait was happy to drop it, if she no longer wanted to talk about it, that is. Often, in Caitlin's extensive experience, brief outbursts were followed by more outbursts as a relief to the soiled, hurting soul. It was good to get it all out and Caitlin waited, patiently, for the penny to fall, hoping it would.[/color]
