Vanessa had snuck out of the Slytherin dormitories for a small snack, or rather, a big one. She hadn't eaten dinner earlier that day and was just about dieing for something chocolatey. Ever since she was placed into a home with her new parents she was addicted to the stuff. Her old parents, the Valentine's, would never allow it.
"Now, what do I have to do again?," she asked herself, standing in front of the fruit portrait.
Soon remembering, she tickled the pear and stepped inside. Her silky pink night gown seemed to shivver in the dim lighting, reaching down to her knees. Vanessa took a seat atop one of the many small tables. "Something with a load of sugar," she told the house elves, waving them off to do their job.

Aly yawned slightly as she made her way down to the kitchens. Then she saw the familiar door. Excellent, let the feasting begin! she thought to herself. She tickled the pear, and the door swung open. Aly stepped into the kitchebs and inhaled the scent of all the delicious being prepared for the next day's meals. "Mmm!" She breathed in deeply and went to sit at a table. She stopped short when she saw it was already occupied by a girl with blond hair a bit different from her own. Based on her looks, Aly deduced that she was probably about sixteen or so. "Hi, I'm Alyson Gravestone. But please, call me Aly." She introduced herself with a smile as she took a seat next to the girl and was immediately surrounded by houselves. She smiled at the tiny creatures. "Just some fresh fruit please." she requested and the houselves scampered off to get the requested food.

Vanessa gave a gentle, girlish yawn, taking a look around the kitchen as she awaited her food. Her head lowered however, seeing yet another girl enter the room. It took her a moment or so, trying to figure out the girls' house and age. This was, after-all, very important in her book.
"Hello," she began, her eyes wondering over the girl a few more times.
She finally realized that she must have been a Slytherin. Vanessa had seen her around the common room on several occasions. But whether Alyson was of high class or not, she had yet to discover.
"Vanessa V- I mean, Malfoy," she introduced, not bothering to extend a hand.
She had recently been discovered to be a Malfoy herself, and was still getting use to the name.

Aly smiled. "Nice to meet you Vanessa. I see I'm not the only one who has midnight cravings." She smiled as the houselves brought a large silver tray filled with an assortment of fresh fruits. "Thank you." she said as they set the try in front of her. "No thank you, I'm good for now." she replied in response to their inquiries as to whether she needed anything else. She turned to Vanessa. "You must be in Slytherin?" she asked as she bit into a sweet juicy mangoe (which to her surprise had already been cut up), although it was more of a statement than a question. She had figured that the girl was a fellow Slytherin, she was just verifying it so that she didn't make a fool of herself!

Vanessa grinned down towards the tray of sweets that was handed up to her. It had a bunch of different cakes and candies, to her own excitement. Picking a small orange sponge cake up from the metal tray she took a small bite, then returning her gaze back to Alyson.
"Well, I had to skip dinner earlier..due to priar arrangements," she explained with the smallest hint of a smile. A real one, which was something she hadn't experienced in quite awhile.
Placing the cake back upon it's tray she made sure her hands seemed clean enough. Then she folded her legs to the side, continuing her conversation with the other.
"Of course I'm a Slytherin. I mean.. I'm a Malfoy, am I not?" She let out a small laugh. "Want one of these?," she questioned, raising her metal tray and offering them down to her.

Aly laughed. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense!" she agreed, she shook her head at Vanessa's offer. "No thank you, I'm strictly vegan. Fruits and vegetables only. And bread and pasta." She looked at the platter, "It does look good though."

When Alyson declined her offer she gave a simple shrug, placing the tray back near the edge of the table. Vanessa couldn't see why anyone would want to give up sweets, having just discovered them herself. She didn't know what she had been missing out on.
"They all really are quite good," she explained, taking another small bite from the sponge cake.
A smile curved across her lips than after. "You remind me of my cousin Twiggy," she said, tapping her finger tips against the table top. "She's vegetarian, but far skinnier. Not that you're fat or anything, but she'll be attending Hogwarts soon."

Aly gave a small laugh. "I actually did used to eat sweets up until a few years ago. In fact I was addicted, but then I had to stop because of some health issues, and I've been eating fruits and vegetables ever since. I especially enjoy fruits, they can be rather sweet, so it's almost like I'm eating candy."

Vanessa tore away a chocolate's wrapper, tossing it back onto the tray and taking a bite from the sweet. She felt like she was being a little rude; but she was really hungry, so it was all worth it.
"I just started eating sweets earlier this week. I was never allowed by my..old parents, I suppose you could call them," she said, giving a sigh.
"My life is..confusing right now, to say the least. But chocolate seems to make everything so much better." She finished off her chocolate.

Aly furrowed her brow in confusion. "What do you mean, old parents?" she inquired curiously taking a bite of a plum. "What happened?"

Vanessa looked unsure for a moment or so. This was a weak subject for her, one of the only ones. But, taking a deep breath, she decided to spill all.
"Ok, here it goes..," she said, shutting her eyes. "My old parents, the Valentine's, were actually my aunt and uncle. My real parents, the Malfoy's, didn't want a child when they handed me over to my old family. It was mid-war and they just couldn't handle me. Recently they took me away from the Valentine's, and I was introduced as their daughter," she said, eyes finally fluttering open.
"Are you getting any of this?"

"Wow, that's alot to handle. Especially for a girl your age." Aly said as she took Vanessa's hand and gave it a sympathetic squeeze. "But I'm sure everything will turn out fine." she said encouragingly. "I mean, I got used to the fact that I can't eat sweets didn't I?" gesturing towards her tray of fruit.

"I'm not that much younger than you," Vanessa mused, giving the girl a soft smile.
She pushed her legs off the table, swinging them back and forth. "I'm more angry than anything. I wasn't allowed sugar with the Valentine's. It was this strict dieting thing, I suppose.. Mrs. Valentine always said I was fat."
Vanessa pouted down at her clearly non-existant stomach.

Aly was shocked, no outraged, that this girl had not been allowed sweets just because her 'mother' thought she was fat! "Why would she say that?" she asked in confusion. "I mean, I have a reason for not eating sweets, I can't because of a health issue. But not being able to eat them just because your so-called 'mother' thinks you're fat, which you're obviously not is completely ridiculous!"

Vanessa was a bit shocked by her reaction, clasping her hands together. Perhaps she wasn't as fat as her "mother" had made her think.
"She just wanted me to look..decent, that's all. I was brought up with other aristocrats, so jeans and t-shirts weren't allowed either," Nessa said, clearing her throat.
