Tyler sat on the ledge of the large open window of the Owlery. A small scroll of parchment rolled up in a hand. Tyler looked out unto the large blue sky and watched the clouds roll by. God he hated his mother so much. His father was always out doing business stuff; he never really had much time to send Tyler a letter, but his mother. Oh she had all the time in the world. And used most of that time to ruin his life.
In his hand Tyler held the letter his mother sent him a few days ago explaining to him that his father was going to gone for a month for some business project. But worst of all, his mother told him that because he’s been such a problem child in the past he was to attend the muggle studies trip to the muggle world that was coming up shortly. She figured it was a worthy punishment for all the stress he’s put her through.
Tyler just crumpled up the parchment and through it out the large window, not really caring where it landed and who read it. If only his father was home more often, things like this wouldn’t be happening.

Russell was suddenly struck on the head by a crumpled up piece of parchment. He bent down and picked it up. He looked up and saw it had come from the Owlery. How convenient, he thought, since I'm headed there myself.
He walked up the many stairs and, overcome with curiosity, read the parchment as he did. It was such a sad letter, Russell was thankful for everything he had in family. He reached the top of the stairs and went into the main room of the Owlery.
He gave his letter to a barn owl and watched it fly away with it. It was to his mother, explaining why his sister's birthday present was going to be late. He felt dreadful about it but he wanted to get her something special. He noticed someone sitting on the ledge of one of the windows. Rus looked from the guy, to the letter, and back to the guy.
"Sorry," he said, slowly walking towards him, "did you throw this at me?" He held out the crumpled letter questioningly and raised his eyebrows at the guy. He didn't seem particularly happy and if the letter did belong to him, Russell would be able to understand why but he thought it necessary to question never the less.

Tyler turned his head towards the door when he head someone else enter, a Ravenclaw, no one to special. Tyler hoped the Ravenclaw boy wouldn’t try talking to him; he wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone. Except share a few unfriendly words with his mother.
A very annoyed smirk formed on Tyler’s face when the boy started to talk to him. He just looked at the boy disgusted at him for bothering him but most of all he had that wretched letter he never wanted to see again. Funny how the things you hate always come back.
“Get that thing away from me,” he spat. Never wanting to see the letter again. “I through it out the window for a reason.” Tyler turned away from the boy and looked back out the window. Oh how badly he wanted to jump.

Russell was taken aback by the boy's response. He took a step back and crunched the letter in his hand. He stuck it in his pocket and looked at the Slytherin. "I know what you mean," he said, "there were some pretty harsh things said in that letter."
He didn't know what to say. Speaking was never his forte but he tried non the less. "But I'm sure the field trip won't be that bad," he said conversationally, "a few days, roughing it, sounds like fun to me. Better then being at school, that's for sure." He laughed softly and looked at the boy to see if he was helping at all or just making the situation worst.

Tyler just shrugged off the fact that his random boy had read his letter. He really didn’t care. So a few kids found out his mother was a psychotic woman out to ruin his life, wasn’t that big of a deal.
Tyler looked at Russell dumbfounded when he said the trip sounded like fun. “You’re kidding right?” He said rudely. “I mean you actually think someone like me would enjoy living like those filthy muggles?” Tyler just laughed. He found it rather funny. “I’ve never touched a muggle item in my life. And now I have to live there, I’m going to end up killing myself. And that’s just what she wants to happen.” Tyler let out a sigh of disgust and rolled his eyes. A Slytherin on this muggle studies trip, this wasn’t going to any fun. At All.

Russell didn't appreciate the assumption that all Slytherins made about him. He was as much a pureblood as some of them and he had two Slytherin brothers that would proudly back that fact up. "Hey," he said angrily, pointing a finger at the Slytherin, "you may not know it but you and I are both in that never touched a muggle thing boat, buddy." Russell crossed his arms and sighed heavily.
He looked away from the Slytherin then a thought occurred to him. He looked back to the Slytherin, still frowning, and buried his hand in his pockets. "You ever used a loo?" he asked, "turned a door nod? Eaten out of a bowl? Those are all muggle inventions, aren't they? So maybe we're not so anti-muggle after all." He knew this guy would like what he had to say but he didn't care what the guy did or didn't like.

This boy obviously didn’t know who he was speaking to. No one, know matter if you’re pure blood or not speaks in that kind of tone to Tyler Rockwood. Tyler stood up from the window ledge and just looked at Russell. Tyler put his hand in to his pocket he felt the smooth wood of his wand. Hopefully it wouldn’t be needed, but it was a good idea to know that he had it with him.
“What do I care if they invited them? We have our own and that’s all that matters,” Tyler said with a huff. Tyler didn’t care if this kid was pureblood or not. He was still a mugglelover and mugglelovers had no sympathy in his book.

The boy stood up and Russell happily stood up straight, practically towering over him. "Don't presume you know me," Russell said, "or the first thing about me. But I will tell you this, I have an open mind, which is more then you can say." Russell thought about saying more but just couldn't bring himself to yet another argument, yet another disappointment, and yet another scratched face.
He turned on his heal and walked out of the Owlery. He had nothing to stay for, he had sent his letter and left. Two confrontations in two days, Russell thought, rubbing his scared cheek. It was slightly swollen like he thought it would be. But all this hostility that surrounded him wasn't doing anything for his finals-nerves. He waved at the Slyther at the door and called back, "have a good day!"

Tyler just looked at Russell as he stood in front of him. Russell was taller than him, but size never really mattered, Tyler wasn’t afraid of him. Oh how badly he wanted to just pull out his wand and hex the boy. But that would involve a letter being sent home to his mother, she’d probably end up pulling him out of Hogwarts and put him in a muggle school, or worse home schooled. He couldn’t risk that at this moment.
A large smirk formed on Tyler’s face as Russell began talking about his ‘open mind.’ Tyler just rolled his eyes and looked back towards the large window he was sitting on a few moments ago. Of course he to had an open mind, he just choose to close it when muggles were involved. Just because Russell was a muggle lover and wanted to be just like them didn’t mean Tyler had to. Tyler was brought up learning that all muggles were scum, no matter if they had magical powers or not. If you have muggle blood in you you’re unworthy of being in the presence of a pureblood. And if you were a muggle loving pureblood, you might as well just join them.
Tyler turned his head back towards Russell just in time to see him leave. His smirk became a little smaller but it was still there, staring at the foolish boy. Tyler was happy to see the Ravenclaw go. Normally he didn’t mind the Ravenclaw bunch, but there were a few that he could live without, Russell being one of them.
Ty just ignored Russell good day and went back to the large window. There was nothing he could do now. His mother already ordered that he attend the trip, and he was already signed up. There was no way out. There was nothing he could do. Tyler let out a large sigh and headed towards the owlery door. Maybe there was some trouble being stirred up in the Slytherin common room, there always was.
