Jac had gotten another of her brother’s books in the post earlier that day and after supper she sat down near the fire place and set the book on her lap. It was a beautiful book, emerald green back with golden writing etched onto the cover. She opened the book and saw that her brother had put in a dedication. This was odd because of all the millions (practically) of books he had written he had never put in a dedication. It read, To Kate, who lit up the dark, To Mum, who set the pen in my hand, To Fred, who believed And To Jac, who smiled at everyone. Jac smiled, giggled and shook her head at her brother. "Such a silly puffball." She turned the first few pages and got the first chapter. She was just about to read the first words when the common room was flooded with people returning from supper. They brought with them laughter and noise and Jac couldn't concentrate, try as she might. And she did try. She crossed her legs and lifted her book high to block out the sight of all the people, it was after all ‘out of sight, out of mind’.

Ian walked through the portrait hole from supper, sulking slightly. Apparently, neither falling asleep in class nor flinging carrots at the Slytherin table during supper were proper behaviour for Head Boys. A fact that one of the Professors had sternly reprimanded him on right in the middle of the Great Hall.
One of his dinner mates patted him on the back in an amused way, before returning to chatting about their latest Quidditch match in a loud voice. Grinning slightly, he was about to comment when he caught sight of a book with legs just across the Common Room.
Brightening immediately, knowing instantly who it was (who else in Gryffindor skipped a good meal for a good book?) Ian walked over near the fireplace.
With two fingers, he gripped the top of the cover and pushed it downwards carefully, so it was now laying in Jac's lap with the tiny amount of force. Then, with a smirk, he let go and sat on the floor in front of her, close to the fire place.
"Well if it isn't Miss. Biggerstall." Tilting his head backwards to look at her, he raised his brows -- looking utterly ridiculous. "And another book! Really, that Professor earlier must love you." He elbowed her foot gently, getting her to move it a little so he lean comfortably against the couch with his legs stretched out in front of him.

Jac had successfully blocked out the noise and managed to read a few pages but she was stopped by two fingers that lowered her book till it was flat on her lap. She looked up slowly to see that it was Ian who had been the owner of the fingers. She smiled up at him and nodded at his statement.
"Well, you know me," she said shrugging, and she closed her book. She was always with a book and clearly Ian had noticed. "Most professors do like it but I don't do it for them," she said absently looking from Ian to the book on her lap. "Did you have a good meal?" she asked, looking back to Ian with a smile.

Ian smiled and dropped his head back to its regular position. Patting his abdomen in an appreciative way, he smirked, though she could probably not see it. "Well, I didn't quite get to finish my carrots... but that's a whole other story."
Then, pulling off his shoes he let out a sigh of approval, already feeling much better. His toes wiggled within their grey striped socks, and he nodded lazily. "And what book is it this time. Another history one?" He wrinkled his nose.

Jac watched Ian take his shoes off. How fascinating it was to watch. She grinned at him stupidly for a second but was brought back into the present but Ian's questioning. She smiled a little less manically and shook her head.
"Nope," she said, and looked at the cover, at her brother's name, "it's a Care of Magical Creatures Guide, my brother writes them and sends me copies." She looked back to Ian and smiled again. She was very sentimental and had kept a copy of every book her brother had published but had never told anyone that, not even Edward himself.
