A Ravenclaw in the library, if some of the Slytherins in her year were around they'd probably come up with some "witty" remark along the lines of 'Whats new?'. The thing was, it was new to Effie. Sure, in her first year she had always been hopping in and out of the library being the good ickle firstie, but by the time 2nd year came around she found herself gaining something every teenage seems to get: laziness.
She was the sort of person you saw doing homework in class, minutes before it was due in or revising for the class quiz on the way to the room. There was one time in the year however when she really knuckled down to work and made up for all the slacking of the rest of the months, and that was exam time. Unfortunately.. it just happened to be that time of year.
On the parchment in front of her was written various dates throughout the 1600s and the countless goblin rebellions that had taken place. She had been unconsciously muttering to herself for several minutes now, as she for what seemed to be the hundreth time tried to memorise who the hell Gragot was and not get him mixed up with the other load of goblins whose names all might as well have been the same. This muttering probably would have gone unnoticed, had she not chosen an already occupied table.

Diana had been studying for History of Magic. A Slytherin girl studying, well now isn't that an odd thing. However, what people usually mistaken about Slytherin's were that they were very smart for they always had to achieve their goals. Yes they were cunning but you had to be reasonably smart to get whatever you wised. As she flipped through the pages she scolded herself. God how she loathed that class and how she found it utterly boring, but if she didn't come out with exceptional marks, that would be her tail. As she added little notes in her book she sighed.
When she heard muttering the dates sounded oddly familiar. Looking up Diana smirked. "Ahh and so I see that you as well are studying History," she said lightly. She really wasn't sure why she was starting a conversation with a girl who seemed occupied, but maybe somehow they could help each other. "Goblin rebellions got you as well?" she asked curiously hearing the name Gragot.

Effie raised her head from looking down at the parchment and gave an amused half smile. 'I'm doing it again aren't I.' It wasn't the first time her concentrating mutterings had been overheard. 'And yeah.. goblin rebellions, just-' She gained an unimpressed expression. '-thrilling.' The Ravenclaw added with a roll of the eyes.
Effie recognised the Slytherin from her year, and realised it was one of those people who, even with six years at the school, she had never got round to speaking to much. Admittedly she was a Slytherin, and most of the people who fitted into this unspoken-to group were Slytherins but that was just because half of them weren't exactly keen to associate with the other houses.
'So, any idea who this Gragot dude is?' She asked, with a hopeful glance.

Diana giggled lightly. "Oh it wasn't a bother, I do it all the time," she said lightly. She was starting to think that they could really help each other out after-all. If they both added to the studying then maybe they could achieve something.
When the girl asked her about Gragot, Diana smiled. "Oh my dear, he lead a raid on the Ministry in 1785, it was quite brutal from what I've read," she said lightly. She couldn't believe that she had actually been paying attention in History of Magic, but what more could you expect she got her excellent marks somehow.

Effie vaguely remembered the raid being mentioned in class now, the Professor had seemed quite adamant on drilling the details in their brains. It was just a shame then that she had been convinced it happened in 1750 and the leader had been Mafert. The Ravenclaw gave a light laugh, before letting out a small sigh. 'I've got a lot of catching up to do.' She wasn't too worried about it all though, she knew she'd get it learnt in the end.
'Is it history bringing you to the library also?' Effie asked, noticing what looked to be the mandatory text book spread across the table in front of her. One of the most uninteresting, overly written text books ever made. She thought to herself with a smirk. It always amazed her how text books could make even the most interesting of topics so damn boring.

Diana looked at the girl and smiled. "Trust me dear, I have much too much things to study on History as well," she said shaking her head in a bothered way. She hated History of Magic and couldn't wait to drop it, when would she ever need it right?, she thought to herself.
As the girl spoke, Diana laughed. "Unfortunately," a light smirk came from her as she looked at the girl. "By the way I'm Diana Fortuna," she said lightly but with the charm that she always carried. She always carried pride when it came to her name but some people found dark not fun. Diana's last name was yet one of the more darker known wizarding names. Her family was known for doing things that not even dark wizards would do.

[Attempted to expand on the whole "more darker known wizarding names" - Hope its ok. If not, tell me! =P]
When Diana revealed her surname Effie couldn't help but raise her eyebrows, and realising that it could have looked quite rude, clumsily tried to cover it up by pretending one was itchy. Improvising.. obviously not one of her strong points.
Fortuna. Of course she had heard of the name, she had been brought up in a wizarding household with a mother in the wizard court of law, how could she have not? The name carried with it a history of notorious wizards, mainly remembered for all the wrong reasons. Effie was certainly not someone to judge a person by their family though, she had only to look at her own mother and her idea of continuing the family name Euphemia to see that she herself, obviously had far more sense.
'I'm Effie, Effie Howard.' She finally replied with a warm smile.

Diana watched her twitch a bit when she said her last name. "Hahaha, yeah... I know that look," she said lightly. Watching her scratch her eyebrow she gave a giggle. She couldn't help it, it was such a infamous look that it was always funny.
"It's a pleasure Effie," she said lightly. "Howard, is your mother in wizard law?" she asked curiously.

Effie gave a sheepish smile as Diana giggled at her reaction to the family name. She was obviously far from the first to give such a response. 'Yeah thats right.' The Ravenclaw said with a nod, surprised that someone would have heard of her mother. 'How do you know that?' According to her dad, Effie's mother was quite big in the law world, but only those involved in law themselves normally knew that.
She had only got a letter from her mum yesterday complaining about the ridiculous amount of cases from the ministry she had been getting. It seemed the government had taken to arresting every person who seemed even a little bit suspicious - the papers were full of it - mainly to praise them for it of course.

[I'm totally making this up.. I hope you don't mind]
Diana looked at her when she asked her the question about her mom. "Well on a couple of cases she was our lawyer," she said truthfully. "She has to be one of the brightest witches I have ever met," she said truthfully. "If anyone can win a case, then she can," she nodded lightly. The whole time of this conversation Diana hadn't realized that she was whispering. Well she didn't want too many people to listen in, but she did have to praise Effie's mother.
"Do tell me what she has been up to lately," she asked sweetly. "I mean I personally haven't seen her since... well since third year," she smiled at Effie.

Derek snickered quietly as he looked up Goblin Rebellions. He could here this Slytherin girl whispering something, as if she were talking to herself. Then, he found a book called: Goblin Rebellions of the Eighteenth Century.
He slowly sat down and opened the book to the first chapter. This was going to be interesting....
