Tracing her wand along the dark stone walls, thin green vines snaked their way from the tip and into the cracks, attaching to the mortar. Tiny white buds bloomed and died, the vines turning brown and crumbling once l'Keitha and her wand turned a corner. The only light along the corridor came from the soft glow of the enchanted vines and the tip of her wand. Where is it? She wondered. Preventing the summoning charm from working on it only ended up biting her in the rear instead...
She never stayed in one place long. She couldn't. Settling in one place felt stagnant, and the uncomfortable sensation of decay always seized her. Decay is entirely different from death of course - things live, grow, and die, but decay is ugly.
But perhaps this time she'd stay put for a little longer than usual. Maybe teach these students a thing or two...

Zerrubabel jogged down the hallway, following his ear toward the sound of footsteps. As he turned the corner he saw a light at the end of the hall. It had to be the professor, so he jogged down the hallway and called her name as he approached, still about twenty feet away when she noticed his presence.

Assuming she was alone, the startled professor turned and whipped around, pointing her wand, "Confringo!" The spell narrowly missed its target and left a deep burn in the stone it did hit. The curling vines fell to the ground.
Realizing it was a student, the professor quickly reclaimed her composure and, with her chin up, gazed straight at the tall figure paces from her. "Ah... sorry about that... not a good idea to go about sneaking up on people in dark corridors. It's just common sense." She tucked a stray strand of hair back into her tight bun and tried to draw herself up as tall as she could, her face unreadable.

Zerrubabel stood there silently quaking in fear. He had narrowly been missed by what he expected was some sort of exploding charm. His voice shook a little when he replied. "Um...I'm sorry, I...I found this pendant in the grass where you had been sitting. I was thinking it was yours." "Lumos" said Zerrubabel as he held his wand tip near the pendant, the emerald dazzling in the light. Zerrubabel lowered his wand and walked closer to the professor. "I almost wet myself just there, who did you expect was coming to fetch you? I guess I do tend to sneak up on people, I am a pirate you know."

A smirk curved on her lips. "Ah yes, well fair enough. Though I'd imagine pirates would rather charge in, bucklers swashing, rather than sneak about." Lighting the tip of her own wand, she stepped forward to make sure it was indeed Zerrubabel. "Nonetheless, that was terribly reckless of me, especially as a professor. I forget that I'm in Hogwarts." She held out her little palm and grasped the pendant. "thank you, I was looking for this."

Putting the pendant in her hand, Zerrubabel smiled. He allowed his hand to linger over hers for a moment more than was necessary. "That's quite alright professor. I don't mind the odd spell being thrown my way. You are quite right about your read on pirates, we really don't do a whole lot of sneaking, unless there is a mutiny going on...maybe that's how captains always know..." said Zerrubabel, trailing off into silent reflection. After a moment Zerrubabel continued, "so professor, does this mean I get a free pass for tea? I expect something new of course."

L'Keitha raised an eyebrow. "Well, my teas are open to all students. So, yes, you're more than welcome to stop by once herbology classes begin." She pocketed the pendant and left her hand in the folds of her heavy cloak. It was tingling oddly, but not unpleasantly.
She pursed her lips and said more tersely than she mean to, "I believe it is past curfew, Mr. Jones. I shan't deduct points seeing as you were returning this, but you best be off."
She turned and took off in the opposite direction briskly, feeling her cheeks flush. "And sorry about the near miss," she said before disappearing in the darkness beyond the light of Zerrubabel's wand.

Zerrubabel stood for a second, alone in the corridor. "Nox" muttered Zerrubabel, extinguishing his wand. Maybe he would go for tea tomorrow afternoon. He put his wand back into the folds of his robes, and headed back toward the Gryffindor common room.
