Grace knew he was right, she didn't need to stay with him. "But," she said dropping her head in shame, "he's my father ... he's my family." She closed her eyes tight and squeezed hard trying to remove the image of looking under the door of the cupboard from her head. She bit her lip and whispered, "I'm s-sorry I snapped at you."

Keifer stayed where he was. His back was to her "Its alright." He said honestly "You had a right to, i understand family bonds and ties and things but if he treats you like that..." He cut off his words and stared at the floor.

Grace knew she had put her foot in it now. She walked to the wall and lifted herself up. Afet a moments silence she said, "I don't suppose I can stay by you during the holidays?" She was joking but really that was all she wanted.

Keifer turned to look at her and smiled. He would do anything for his friends. He walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. "You know you can, you can be by me whenever you want to"

Grace looked up sheepishly and smiled back at him. "Thanks," she whispered. "I'll take you up one that offer." She could not face he father, not now and not ever. He had broken her heart and a few bones. She knew that it was not long til she could leave him to rot in his own grave. She did not want to see her father and would do anything to avoid doing so. She looked back to the ground, still ashamed she had shouted at her dear friend so heartlessly.

Nodding in acknowledgement, Grace smiled. "I'll think of it," she mumbled shyly. She would give almost anything to not have to live with her father anymore but an overwhelming sense of dread washed over her and splashed inside her head. The fear would not leave her. She did not look at Keifer.
