Algernon walked into his office, Kim Rivers closely in toe. Not bothering to remove his cloak, he instantly went to the desk, unlocking it with a quick wave of his wand, and pulled out a huge leather bound book with a centaur on the cover. It spewed dust into the air as he placed it down on the wood of the desk with a crash. "Here it is." He told her proudly.

Kim followed the professor into his office and watched him as he put the book on the desk. She was a little excited now, knowing what the language was and that there was a book written in it. She walked over to it and looked at the centaur on the front of it. She smiled to herself. "Have you read any of it? she asked tracing her finger over the picture of the centaur.

Algernon bit his lip, running his hand through his hair self-conciously. "Well there are very, very few books in centaur; centaurs prefer not to write their secrets down, and I wasn't even aware that there were any humans who spoke centaur, and, well, the centaurs won't talk to me, you see they hate half-breeds and--"
He froze, coloring darkly. "I mean..." he stammered. "Er..."

Kim raised an eyebrow at him. More out of habit than anything else. "I kinda guessed there werent many books written in it since ive never come across one." She half smiled and turned back to the book. "So.. i take it by that your a half centaur or something? Thats cool, but then, why do you need me to help you read it? What i mean is, uhm.. Im happy to help you and everything its just.. well, if you've got centaur blood shouldnt you be able to read it?"

Algernon stared at her for a moment, then lowered his eyes. "Well... I mean, it's not as if centaurs are born knowing how to read their own language. Were you born knowing how to read English? It's quite sad, really, most centaurs don't even know how to read it anymore. It's a dying language..." He stroked the book lovingly, eyes still shadowed.
"And... I'd prefer if you didn't tell anyone about that. I'm only a quarter centaur, so I've gotten the star-reading and about nothing else. The Headmistress knows, and Leigh--" He rolled his eyes, "I mean, Professor Addis, he guessed, but other people might have a problem..."

She looked down at the book. "I guess nobodys born knowing a language, but they're not that hard to pick up you know. Yeah, okay some are, but if you really want the knowlege of another language, you got to work at it. Just like anything really. While we're deciphering it, i could always teach you the language along the way.. Of course if you wanna know it, i mean im no professor or teacher but.." she stopped herself. She didnt even know why she had suggested teaching it to him. "Its your choice though.. I might make mistakes in teaching it you, though i could read it plain as english" She laughed
"Dont worry, i wont say a word. If you wanted people to know about your, well, heritage, you'll tell them yourself. Isnt nice to gossip really." She smiled
