Keifer had decided to take his chances and go and swim. He had his wand with his this time so he should be okay. He got by the lake and jumped into the water, feeling the cold icey water running iver him. He swam a little before going back to the bank and sitting in it with his legs still in the water.

Novella stood at the edge of the lake, peering into its depths. She had never liked water. Not, of course, because of some childhood trauma; no one she knew had died in water, she had not almost drowned as a child. No, she just didn't like it. It seemed big, and cold, and uninviting, and the tales she had heard about the giant squid in this particular body of water didn't make her feel any better.
So, she was surprised when she noticed a boy swimming. She watched him for a moment, until he quickly got out. Smiling, she walked over to him, calling out when she got close enough. "Hey! You know there's a giant squid in there," She informed him.

Keifer laughed and looked in the direction of the voice. "Yeah i do! I almost got eaten by it. Really wasnt fun!" He shuddered at that thought, but the squid didnt seem to be around so he was okay. He smiled as he made little waves in the water, he wondered where the squid actually was, safe to say if it appeared, he'd be out of there like a shot.

Novella's eyes widened as she arrived next to the boy, pulling herself down to sit cross-legged beside him. "You were almost eaten?" She exclaimed incredulously, examinging Keifer as if to make sure he was whole. "Well, you don't seem to have suffered any lasting ill effects... still, I don't think I'd be sitting there so calmly dangling my legs into its lair if I'd been nearly eaten."

Keifer smiled "Yeah. I was in detention with the gameskeeper and L.C pushed me in, the squid got me and tried to make me its next meal. I passed out cause of lack of oxygen but apart from that i was fine." He looked into the water "I think it could be asleep"
Keifer looked at the girl and smiled "Im Keifer by the way... Have we met?"

Novella tilted her head to the side questioningly, raising an eyebrow. "Doesn't sound like a very nice friend you have there," she commented, inwardly adding well, what would you expect from a Slytherin? She may have been Muggleborn, but she had caught on to the various predujices quickly, and she knew already that Gryffindors and Slytherins didn't mix. Although, generally neither did Ravenclaws and Slytherins; basically Slytherins and anyone but their own. But it didn't matter. That Kim girl had been nice to her before anyone else, after all, and she was a Slytherin. Bah. The magical world was so confusing. She shrugged, looking away from the boy and peering down into the lake. "I certainly hope so." She paused a moment, listening to him, then laughed to herself. "Keifer, huh? I didn't say-- I'm Novella. Sandler. I'm a gryffindor, but you can probably tell that from the red robes," She added with a grin. "I don't believe we have met, no. I don't know very many people."

"Gha.. No L.C's alright once you get to know her. She openly expresses her opinions and what she thinks. She can come across a bit... full on when you first meet her, but when you get past that you see what a nice person she actually is" He thought about the things he had said to her and probably how she must be feeling. Then there was Jessie. Jessie, Keifer wasnt to bothered about. Even though he forgave him, that guy deserved all he got and much more. Keifer glanced back in the lake and smiled "Actually... So do i. I dont think i'd like the idea of it being awake. I suggest running.. If it appears." "Yeah i could tell you were, the red did give me a nudge in the right direction. Unless Hufflepuff has changed to red." He laughed "'tis nice to meet you Novella Sandler since we've never met. Im a Ravenclaw"

Novella laughed at his advice about the squid, nodding vehemently. "Believe me, I'll be off like a shot if there's the slightest hint of a tentacle," she told him. "And I'm sure there's some good to everyone, even Slytherin girls who push people into lakes." She smiled. "Ravenclaw seems like a good house," she commented, unsure about what to say. Originally she had edged away from anyone who wasn't a Gryffindor, simply out of shyness, but as there didn't seem to be too many of them, judging by the house points especially, she had quickly abandoned that idea. Anyway, it was true, Ravenclaw did seem like a good house. She had danced with that Ravenclaw boy, Albert, Alan? Something like that. But he seemed to have vanished anyway, along with Kim Rivers... so having more friends certainly couldn't hurt.

Keifer laughed again. "You and me both! Though... As for some good to everyone, it depends on the way they are. There's only good in those who let it reside in them." He said, remembering how his father had reacted. He still hadnt wrote to Kaydeane and he was still in doubt whether or not it was a good idea, after all if his father found out he was writing to his own sister... World war 3 would break loose. "Ravenclaw is a fun house to be in" He said thinking on the people "Though i dont keep my cool the way the rest of them do"

Novella nodded thoughtfully, eyes turned to the water, examining its ripples. "Gryffindor is alright... I mean, it's great. There just seem to be an awful lot of... expectations. Have to be brave all the time, not supposed to speak with Slytherins, have to jump into things without thinking..." She shrugged, turning back to Keifer. "Not that I'm complaining or anything. It's certainly better here than it would have been at whatever muggle school I would have been sent to if I hadn't been accepted here-- I'm muggle-born," She added by way of explanation.

"Expectations?" He asked when she said that. Listening to her, he heard about bravery and the non speaking to Slytherins. "Sometimes you gotta bite it in the ass.. Forget all the expectations of you. Do as you want, not what everyone else wants you to do. Some told me 'If you live your life the way others want you to, you become a mindless being with no thoughts of your own. They control you.'" He turned from the water and lay down on the grass "Everyone expects something out of everyone, but what they want doesnt matter... Its what you want that counts... You gotta chase it, do what you can to get it... Even if its hard, just dont give up" Keifer laughed "Check me... Sounding all wise... You dont need to listen to me of course... Just things i've learnt. I guessed you were a muggle born"

Novella chuckled softly, leaning back to lie next to Keifer, the grass tickling her ears. "No, no... it sounds like very good advice. Not so easy to follow, though..." She was silent for a moment, before a large white ferret scrambled out of her robes and onto the grass beside her head, poking its nose into Keifer's face. "Darin!" She cried, sitting up to scoop him into her arms. She held him tightly, smiling apoligeticly at the boy. "Sorry about that... he must have decided you smelled interesting."

Keifer laughed "I know.. i often do--" he stopped halfway through saying 'don't' because something furry poked it's cold nose into his face. "Yeow!" he said unexpectidly. He looked around and saw Novella scoop up a white ferret. He laughed when she said sorry "Dont worry about it. It's fine, better than smelling horrible" he laughed and scratched the top of the ferret's head. "So cute"

Novella grinned, nodding. Now she was sure Keifer was alright. Anyone who thought Darin was cute was alright in her book. "Yeah, he's pretty great..." She said, smiling down at the ferret. "He's just an ordinary ferret, bought in a muggle shop, but he's every bit as good as the magical animals everyone has. He rides around with me all the time."
