Post by Professor Lauretta Mericcini on Apr 13, 2006 14:35:28 GMT
'I'm late, I'm late, I'm late' Lauretta thought to herself as she ran down the corridor to Arithmancy. 'Well Papa said to never use the invisibility cloak unless it was necessary, and this is' was the thought going through her as she put on the cloak and snuck into the room. She sat at an empty seat and took the cloak of hoping the teacher wouldn't notice she was late.

Keaira sat near the back of the room, aligned with the door and poised well to watch the other students. She directed her attention forward.

Aidan runing the room with a slightly out of breath and sliped into a set. She was a bit late haveing taken a wrong turn in the labryrth that was the Hogwarts hallways. She hoped the teacher wouldn't notice or at lest not mind. Aidan desided to take this class because she knew it was linked to Numerology a class she very much liked. Now she just hoped the Professor wouldn't kick out for being late.

[glow=red,2,300]"Numbers can have many magical qualities. One can divine the future using numbers or determine personality traits. Arithmancy is a method of divination by numbers first used by the ancient Greek wizards. They assigned values to the letters in the names of combatants to foretell the outcome of battles. Later, in the ninth century BC, the Chaldeans in Arabia, where our modern number system also comes from, practiced a form of arithmancy that divided their alphabet into three parts, each part composed of seven letters which they attributed to the then known seven planets. We still use a similar system today, all these thousands of years later." She told the class. She looked around at the faces of the students and added "Is there anything that i have said that you dont understand?"[/glow]

Grace stuck her hand up with a confused look creasing her brow, "Professor, you said seven planets, aren't there nine? I would have thought that as smart and sophisticated as the Chaldeans were, they certainly knew about the other two, didn't they?"

Aidan looked at Grace. " She said "Then Known", at the time they didn't know about the other two." she then blushed and shifted her eyes back to the professor." Right?"

Charity smiled "Yes... I suppose they should have, being as smart as they were. But consider this, they knew of those seven planets, two still unknown at that time. Why? Probably because they overlooked it... Maybe they didnt have the technology, but right now, that is not important." She smiled at the young hufflepuff "You should really pay a tiny bit more attention to what i say. Though, i did ask the very same question too once. Anyway, does anybody know what the missing two planets were at that time?"

Grace was feeling very intuitive today; her hand shot up. "Professor, those two planets must have been there, right, they must have, like you said, not necessarily have had the technology or over looked they." There was a slight furrow in Grace's brow as she retracted her hand. I can't always be wrong, can I? she thought.

Post by Henry Boggleworth on Jun 15, 2006 8:08:29 GMT
Boggleworth knew he was late but he'd timed it to perfection so he was hopefully late but not too late to get any points, he strode into the classroom with a load knock on the door first but he didn't sneak becuase he was so late he strode right up to the professor who looked kind enough and said "I'm dreadfully sorry I'm so late I was finishing prefect rounds throughout the school making sure others are in lessons, you know how it is, duty calls!" he held then held out his hand for the professor to shake saying "I'm Boggleworth by the way I don't think we've met have we?"
