Eithne drew a deep breath and tried to compose herself into 'Professor l'Keitha'. However, transforming the physical is a lot simpler than transforming the mind. Just because it looks like a teacher and smells like one, too, doesn't necessarily mean anything - that much she has learned.
Sweeping a lock of black hair behind her ear, Professor lKeitha entered the classroom. Her icy blue eyes gazed steadily over her students, and her pale lips pursed into a smile.
"Good morning, class. And welcome to your first transfiguration lesson..."

Eithne drew out her wand and summoned a piece of parchment. As the steady stream of light transfigured the parchment into a paper lizard scurrying on the desk, she noticed a glint shining beneath Brian's throat. There was something not quite right - call it magic or intuition, but there was nothing normal or good about it. With a flick of her wand, the lizard burst into flames as she stepped towards her student.
"That's an interesting pendant, Mr. Chase..."

Jerred walked into the room, suddenly seeing Chase, the git. He saw Professor I'Keithna. He smiled at her as he spoke, "Morning Professor." He was in a cheery mood, he didn't know why. Maybe it could be that he actually wanted to behave. He walked past Helia, suddenly diverting his attention. He saw Chase seated as well, he sighed. "I don't want to berate you in this class, especially today. I want to learn, and learn well so please don't provoke me." He sat down and looked to the front of the class.

"You should be wary of things of which you cannot see their brains," Prof. l'keitha warned. "And thankyou for joining us, Mr. Boneman." She strightened herself up and addressed the class. "Before we start turning whatsits into whatnots, can anyone tell me the essential concept behind transfiguration? In otherwords, can one every truly change one object into another?"

"No." said helia simply. "The core of the object is always the same. You can manipulate an item to look like something else, but there's always a trace of the original item."

"Excellent, Ms. Ollivander!" the professor smiled. "Ten points!" She drew an apple from her cloak's pocket. "This looks like an apple, and certainly tastes and smells like one, but, at the risk of sounding trite, physical characteristics do not define the identity of anyone or anything."
She placed the apple on Boneman's desk. "So no matter what you transfigure, the object will always be what it was meant to be -" with a wand tap the apple turned into a pineapple. "Imagine having taken a bite of that and having it re-transfigure in your stomach!"
"So simply remain weary of any god-complexes," she said, eyeing certain students. "Magic can remain, at times, only an illusion..."

"Professor, is it possible for a wizard to transfigure themselves? I know it's possible for wizards to turn others into objects, but is it possible." He asked, raising his hand.

Keaira raised her hand timidly when she saw that the teacher was not answering. "Professor, I know that a Polyjuice Potion is required to change a person into someone different, so to speak," she said, "but couldn't a wizard use simply his own magic to cast an illusion over another, or himself? Like the Disillusionment Charm making a wizard invisible, except instead of removing them from visibility, changing the space about them to make it appear as though they are someone else? Whereas the Polyjuice Potion actually alters a person's physical makeup, the illusion would merely cover it."
She sat quietly for a moment, pondering her own words. "It would be temporary, of course," she said firmly. "Much like the Polyjuice Potion is a temporary one, and the illusionment might be even briefer, but for a brief interlude—sneaking into a building, for instance, to which one has no authorization. And I don't suppose the illusion would change the effected person's voice, so the transformation would be imperfect, but assuming that he didn't need to speak while 'illusioned.' "

"I see we have a very bright class this year..." A slow smile crept across the professor's lips and she continued, "You're right, Ms. Liath, there are many charms, spells, and potions to alter a witch or wizard's appearance, especially with a polyjuice potion or Disillusionment charm, both of which you will be learning in those respective classes."
"This, however, is transfiguration, and you will be learning how to transfigure things yourself - that is, truly alter the physical properties of object, creatures, and humans and not merely create a temporary illusion or spend months brewing a concoction. " Turning to Jerred, her crystal blue eyes flashed a quick shade of gold. "As for human transfiguration, or, I suspect you suspect, Mr. Boneman, Animagus transformations... those can be a bit trickier. In a way, that is what this class strives for, the ultimate transfiguaration. The transformation of the self."
Her eyes darted away, and looking at no one in particular, she said offhandedly, "And sometimes... a young student comes along who possesses such abilities." With a flick of her wand, an artichoke appeared before every student. "But for now, we're going to start with the basics. Turn to chapter 2 and change your lovely greens into a brilliant red!"

Lisa, who had been writing elaborate notes while isolated in the back of the room, jumped slightly as the artichoke appeared before her. Listening to the Professors instructions, she opened her book flicking the pages until her fingers landed on the chapter assigned. The basics, a perfect place to start.
