That comment seemed to snap Draco out of his daze and he frowned, realising his father was right. Here he was, after receiving his letter, sitting with a Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Blinking, he uncrumpled the letter and glanced at it once again, for maybe the fourth time.
Letting out a sigh, he picked up his book bag and stuffed the letter inside, before letting it slump against the wall once more.
"I think, McEwan," he said quite suddenly, "That we're having problems living up to our houses' stereotypes."

Carrie had her head leant back as she glanced up at the ceiling thoughtfully. 'Perhaps we are.' She then seemed to consider him for a moment or two before adding. 'And perhaps, thats for the best.'
The Gryffindor bit her lip slightly to fight back her natural curiosity. She had seen Malfoy glance at some sort of writing on parchment out of the corner of her eye, and he only seemed to somewhat relax again when it was stuffed away in his bag. Maybe thats got something to do with whats bothering him. She thought to herself.

"The best." Draco scoffed, thinking how it was for the worst in his situation, as his father wanted him to be everything a Slytherin was. Then noticing McEwan had taken an interest in what he had been reading, he looked at her and shrugged.
"Just a letter from home." He said it as indifferently as he could manage, but couldn't help the look on his face as he said the word "home".

Carrie raised an eyebrow. 'That bad huh?' She asked the Slytherin, noticing the attempt to hide his displeasure of the subject. 'Seems we have something in common.' She commented with a slight roll of her eyes as she thought of her own home.
Carrie was no stranger of not being a fan of home, though the Gryffindor had to remind herself that her own problems were probably quite pathetic to those of others.
Still, didn't stop her from being annoyed about it all.

"You have no idea," he said without thinking, his gaze landing on his bookbag. Then, realising he said something he shouldn't have, he suddenly felt irritated with himself, understanding exactly what his father had said.
Staring at his shiny black shoe, lounged upon the bench, Draco decided to try even harder to be what his father wanted.
However, hearing McEwan's next comment made Draco look up at her without a glare, smirk or sneer. Instead, he raised his eyebrows, glancing at her curiously.
"Aren't Gryffindor's supposed to have the perfect families?" he said with a hint of jealousy.

Carrie glanced at Malfoy and gave a weak laugh. 'Well if they do.. my family seems to have been missed out.' She moved her gaze downwards and tucked the strands of hair that had fallen in front of her eyes behind her ear, before moving her feet onto the bench to hold her knees close. 'As you've been pointing out.. I guess its just another reason of how un-Gryffindor I am.' She said more to herself than anyone.
Malfoy's accidental confession had not escaped Carrie's notice, as she continued to concentrate her stare downwards. 'So, how about you then Malfoy? You're often mentioning your Father and what not.. I had always thought you were proud and happy with your family.' She asked, only realising afterwards that she may have pushed her luck.

Draco's eyes narrowed and he quickly let his feet fall off the bench, sitting up straighter and glaring at the not-so-Gryffindor-after-all.
"I'm perfectly happy with my family," he said, though contradicting what he had blurted out earlier... And what he felt. His inner confession made his teeth clench with frustration and he stood up off the bench clasping his bag together, muttering to himself.
"My father has everything I want and will need in life," Draco said confidently, picking up his bag and looking back at McEwan. "I'm perfectly happy with my life, perfectly content."
It was true, in a way. He did want the riches, the reputation, the respect. But he didn't want the father that came along with it, the one who expected too much and was hardly ever satisfied.

Carrie's eyes widened slightly.. she had definately touched a nerve. As soon as his family, in particular his father, was mentioned, the transformation took place - from his tone of voice to his body language. It seemed to Carrie, that Malfoy had revealed a little too much for his liking, and she was also sure that he wouldn't be too pleased about her, a Gryffindor, being the receiver of the slight confession.
She felt her suspicions being confirmed, as he got up to walk away from the corridor, looking about as annoyed as he had when she had first arrived. Picking up her own bag, Carrie stood up from the bench. She turned to face him with a somewhat unreadable expression, before adding thoughtfully. 'Are you sure that its not yourself you are trying to convince Malfoy?'

Draco paused in his actions, a frown on his face as her words replayed in his mind before turning toward her with a glare, "You don't know anything about me!" He cried, his voice lined with rage, "You haven't a clue of how perfect my life is, I don't need to convince anyone! Especially not myself."
His voice had lost its calm and he cursed, looking away and letting out a small growl.

Carrie eyes narrowed slightly as she turned back to face the Slytherin.. though she had known her words would have provoked him, she still didn't like his anger directed at her. 'You keep on saying that to yourself.' She stated with dark eyes. 'Maybe it'll come true then.' She gave out an annoyed sort of huff, before looking down and shaking her head slightly.

Scowling, Draco turned around and took a few angry strides toward the staircase. "This isn't any of your business in the first place," He said, taking the first few steps and pausing, "You were better off going to charms." Then, with one last glance directed at the Gryffindor, he hurried down the steps.

Carrie was stood in the corridor for a few moments, playing the argument, if it could be called that, through her mind with a slightly annoyed look on her face. He's right, it isn't any of my business. She thought to herself with her arms crossed, realising she didn't need to dwell on it. Though better off in Charms...? She scoffed and slung her bag over her shoulder, before going down a different flight of stairs to Malfoy.. she didn't want to be accused of stalking of all things. Besides, she needed to find somewhere to go and cool off.. prefably outside.
