"With pride?" Keaira asked, raising her eyebrows. "I'll try, but I don't know how much pride I can have in an ability I can't perform...okay, here goes."
Keaira rolled her wand away again and outstretched her hand, reaching for it.
"Accio wand!"
Again, the wand rolled towards her but did not lift off the ground. Keaira shook her head, thoroughly frustrated, and toed her wand back to its starting point.
"Okay," she told herself firmly, "say it with pride. You can do it. Mother always says, you can do whatever you put your mind to as long as you put your faith in yourself. Don't hope for anyone to help."
"I can do it," she muttered, reaching out her fingers.
"ACCIO WAND!"
The wand spun in a rapid circle on the ground and flung itself towards her hand, smacking her with a satisfying noise and leaving a slight sting in her palm. Keaira blinked, a bit perplexed.
"I did it," she said quietly, more to herself than to Professor Ethelion. "Wow."

Keaira nodded and rolled her wand away again. It landed a good three meters out and she smiled wryly. Of course now it would be further away.
Closing her eyes, Keaira concentrated on drawing the wand to her. She had done it once, she could do it again.
Do it, she heard her mother's voice say, but this time do it right.
"Do it right," she murmured.
"Accio wand."
Again, the wand spun on the ground before smacking into her hand. Well, that was something, at least—not only had she successfully called the wand to her, but she had done it in a more controlled fashion and it had come to her with less force.
Again, her mother's voice seemed to say.
"Accio wand."
The act was perfect except for one thing: the wand still spun on the floor before coming to her.
Damn.
Keaira practiced the move again.

Visualize the wand spinning. Then channel your magic to straighten its course. Almost like using magic against your own magic. If you can conquer yourself, then everything is possible.

Keaira nodded. She completed five more trials without complete success, but the wand began to spin less; no longer were the turns full 360s, but only half as much and once, simply a shallow 95 or so.
Okay, she said to herself, come on. Concentrate. Be proud. Be strong. You can do it. You're better than this.
Keaira closed her eyes and reached towards the wand.
"Accio wand."
The wood flew into her hand at once, no spin required. Opening her eyes, Keaira smiled at her accomplishment and turned to Professor Ethelion.
"Shall I practice that more?"

You tell me. Next practice something like Aguamenti where there is no solid object to place. You have to focus on everything yourself down to the last detail. That requires a whole new level of thought.

"I think I'll practice the Accio just a few more times before I try Aguamenti."

Keaira leaned against the wall, stretching her arms above her head. "It gets easier, but it's still sort of hard on my concentration. I have to focus so hard..." She stood up straight, still putting some of her weight on the solid wall behind her. "But I can do it. I can do it."
Closing her eyes, Keaira put both her hands out in front of her, her wand left lying on the ground by her feet.
Water...water...water...
Water feeds the Earth. Water feed me. Water is life. I am surrounded by life; I am surrounded by water. I can do it. I can do it. It's all right.
"AGUAMENTI!"
A splash of water appeared before her, but disppeared just as quickly. Keaira slid down the wall to sit on the ground, her forehead supported by her palm.
"That's much harder," she said, her breathing heavy.
