He had taken up nearly an entire table to himself, books and parchment scattered about. Most books were open and showing pictures of runes or glyphs, some that glew dully, some that contained incomprehensible scribble. There were stacks of parchment with notes and even more symbols scattered about them, and before him lay an open book he was reading from aloud quietly, dictating to a quill nearby that was jotting down what he was saying.
Every now and then he would stop to check what was written and change something here or there, and idly he twirled his wand about his fingers again, which were now wrapped up as well. Taking the quill by hand, he drew a large rune symbol on a blank piece of parchment and watched it. It glew bright green for a moment before turning ink black again. It didn't seem to surprise him, and he went back to reading.

Helia walked into the library. It was unfortunatly time for her to return the books on wand making, she sighed and placed the little stack of books in the 'return' basket and they appropriatly disappeared. She had made sure to take a lot of notes though, just in case something like this ever happened again. Or at least that's what she had been trying to convice herself the reason was.
Across the library she saw a large pile of books stacked up around a Hufflepuff boy whom she had never met before. She walked over, and upon reading the titles of a few of the books asked curiously, "Doing extra work for Divination, or do you just have an unusually strong interest in foreign language?"

"No, and sort of," he responded, then looked up at the Ravenclaw girl. "He-" he started then looked over at his quill, which had just written 'No, and sort of,' across the page. Grumbling he erased it with his wand and moved the quill away. "Actually," he said looking back towards the girl, "it's for Ancient Runes." He gestured towards a nearby book labeled with 'Ancient Runes' across the cover and accompanying symbols. "Just a bit of research," he explained.

"Oh, cool." she said as she looked upside down at one of the books, "So... what exactly do these runes say? Or do they say anything?" she asked quizzically. She new that some runes meant important places or events, and some runes were more like an alphabet and didn't really mean anything unless you wrote them in the proper order.

"Hm, let me think," he said, spreading out a stack of parchment and summoning a book at the far end of the table. "This one actually dictates a very ellaborate curse, which I'm sure I'm not allowed to look up," he explained then began to rearrange them. "It could also stand for..." he flicked his wand and the pages of the book began turning rapidly. "Its actually a password of some sort..." he said almost in a whisper of disbelief. He mumbled something aloud and the book slammed itself shut loudly. Stunned, he looked towards the drawings, the book, then at the girl baffled.

"Really?" she said in slight disbelief, "What kind of password?" she asked thinking that if he was correct it may be something the professors mght be interested... Especially Moncrieff. Although the chances of it having anything to do with the centaurs was very slim, it may at the same time be very helpful to his research with Kim.

"Er, I don't know," he said, looking frustrated. "It only made mention of one, this isn't stuff they're exactly showing me in class," he explained, rubbing his bandaged hand across his forhead. "I don't know why I even looked it up." He grabbed the close book and tried to pry it open, but unsuccessfully. Grabbing his wand he rapped it several times and tried again, but with continued failure. With a sigh he put it down and tried thinking.

She smiled slightly and picked up the book, the tried to remember what the rune had looked like and traced it on the cover of the book, but to no avail. "You got a better look at that 'password' rune. Try drawing it on the cover," she said handing the book back to him. It was usually such coincidences like this that would happen at Hogwarts.

"Hm, no," he said tracing a finger about the cover of the book. "It wasn't a password, but more like, a clue towards one, maybe?" he suggested, but this was all silly. Why did he even come up here to study runes anyways? He should be fooling around the whomping willow or something reckless as usual.

"Well, what did it say? Roughly, I know runes don't always translate properly, but who knows. It might turn out to be the clue to a password to a puzzle to a cave filled with jewels or something, and wouldn't that be cool to find? So come on, what's it say?"

A slight grin appeared on his face. "For a Ravenclaw you sure are adventerous," he said before spreading out the runes he'd drawn out again. "I'll try to get it open, just give me a minute, this stuff is old," he told her examining the drawings closely.

"That coming from a Hufflepuff who's staying inside reading on one of the most beautiful winter days we've had all year," she smirked. "Guess neither of us really fall into our houses stereotypes, huh?"

"No, I got in trouble because I was play... I got too near the whomping willow," he said quickly. Then held up his bandaged hand. "And it cut up my hand right good," he explained. "So the nurse told the teacher not to let me outside for a while," he added, looking a little annoyed by that last note.

"Ah, now it makes sense." she tapped the side of her head, "Anyways, with some of the stuff I've been through since starting at Hogwarts, it's been kind of impossible to shy away from danger." she shrugged.

"Hm, here we go," he said picking up the book and turning it about, examining it once more. "Ah," he said after a while setting it down and leaning in, looking closely at one corner. There were several very small runes scratched into it. He mumbled something and the book sprang up and fell open before them. "How about that?" he said amusedly.
