Caleb lazily waved his wand and said calmly, "protego" and Amanda's spell bounced away instantly. "Thats not how you duel. The proper technique is to give a slight bow to your opponent then turn back to back. After you turn take ten steps, turn around and wait for the instructor to start. So Amanda lets do it right." and Caleb gave a bow and waited for Amanda to do the same.

Amanda nodded to show she understood, then bowed to Professor Black. However, she still had a question. "Professor, I see your point now, but what if you're in a real duel, and it's life or death? How do you know your opponent won't try to finish you off the second you turn your back, hmm? I'm not trying to contradict you, I'm just curious."

Calen sighed. "You really don't know. You just have to assume they are a decent person. Its better to have a second though to watch out for that. Now lets carry on." and Caleb turned his back to her once more.

Amanda nodded, turned her back to the professor, and walked the required ten steps. She turned to face the professor and readied her wand.

Caleb did the same. He turned and spoke." On the count of three.....One!....Two!....Three!" Caleb didn't do anything. He was going to see how Amanda reacted.

Amanda hesitated, not sure if she should attack. When Professor Black did not proceed, she raised her wand with lightning fast refelexes. "Expelliarmus!" the word fell from her lips as she put all her will and energy into the disarming spell. She kept her wand ready but relaxed her grip, hoping that she did things correctly this time.

Caleb took the spell full on in the chest. It was a powerful enough spell to take him off his feet and throw him back wards 20 feet. He moaned a little as he hit the wall, head first. He got up with a smile and said, "That was nicely done Amanda. Now I would like to see Dax and Amanda duel since they both one their first, so Loren if you wouldn't mind, step off to the side with me." And Caleb walked far from where the two were standing. " When your both ready I will start the countdown."

Amanda nodded then turned to the older student. "Ready when you are." On the outside she was calm, cool, and collected, but on the inside she was shaking like Jell-O (a popular muggle food) she had seen what Dax could do. And he was good! Real good!

As the Professor spoke Dax moved his gaze off Loren and looked towards Amanda who was slowly moving towards him. With a deep breath Dax tried to regain his composure and focus his energy on dulling properly. The only problem this time was he did not wish to hurt a 1st year, although Amanda did seem capable the last time they worked together.
“Yup I’m ready”
With that Dax spun around so they were back to back and he started to slowly take the paces forward, knowing that his longer strides were going to move him further away then the Gryffindor would go.

Amanda nodded, took a deep breath, turned, and walked the required ten steps. She turned back around to face Dax, took another deep breath, focused her mind and energy on the spell, raised her wand, and released the spell. "Expelliarmus!" Hand still gripping her wand tightly she waited to see if it would disarm Dax, or if he would block it.

As Dax spun around he noticed that Amanda had already stared to cast the spell. With a desire to actually make this a proper duel Dax raised his wand, pointed it at Amanda and cast the spell, shouting “Expelliarmus” to help move the spell along. Just as Dax had finished casting his own spell Amanda’s hit him square in the chest causing him to let out a small groan.

Amanda smiled brightly as her spell hit Dax right in the chest. She hoped Dax was okay though. "Hey, you okay?" she asked him, as she relaxed her grip on her wand and lowered it. "I didn't hit you too hard did I?"

Dax looked up and saw Amanda smiling at him. “No I’m ok, I get hit by harder things then that in Quidditch Practise.” He gave Amanda a wide grin and a small wink. Straightening his up Dax looked around to where his wand had flown off too hoping that he might for once be able to duel the Professor as then he would be able to let himself go and use all his force.

Loren wrapped her arms around herself and quietly followed Professor Black to the side of the room. She leaned against the wall, sliding down to the floor with a heavy sigh. Perhaps it had not been such a good idea coming to the club today - she was a good enough fighter, and when was she ever going to get into a real duel anyway? She hardly ever bickered with anyone, and she usually backed down for dignity's sake.
The Ravenclaw winced as Dax was hit hard, causing him to stumble against the wall. She gave a hearty but tense round of applause for Amanda before looking up at Professor Black. 'Shall we try, sir?'
