Thom felt as though all the oxygen had left his body. He couldn't breathe as Grace rushed from his hold, clambering up onto the stone balcony, her arms spread wide as the wind whipped at her robes and hair, lifting them up.
'There's no one there Grace!' Thom pleaded desperately, his eyes full of horror. She had stomped on his foot quiet heavily, and he cursed and he darted forward again, his big toe crying out - he could feel the warm blood of the broken nail soaking the end of his sock. The pain infuriated him, and he wrapped his arms around Grace's knees, his teeth gritted. 'There's no one there!' he repeated ragingly. He yelled out as Grace kneed him in the face.
She toppled over the edge now, and Thom screamed as he was dragged with her. Immediately all sound was taken over by the wind rushing past their ears as they plummeted towards the open ground....

Post by Prof. Algernon Moncrieff on Sept 3, 2006 2:25:12 GMT
Algernon had been taking a relaxing stroll. He was actually enjoying his own thoughts for the first time since he'd been made Headmaster. But of course, that was ruined by two students nearly falling on top of him.
Not having time to pull out his wand, Algernon cried, "Wingardium Leviosa!" anyway.
But, although Algernon could do some basic wandless magic, levitating two falling Hufflepuffs was too much for him.
However, their fall was slowed enough that they probably wouldn't die upon landing.

The two of them hit the ground, their limbs smashing against the hard cold flagstones of the courtyard. Thom had twisted under Grace's body as they had fell, and she had landed on top of him, knocking the wind from his chest, adding to the burning in his limbs, the hot stinging on the side of his head and the screaming in one knee, one wrist and both sides of his chest...
He opened his mouth to say whatever he could, to acknowledge Professor Moncrieff's coincidental presence and the odd magical effect he had felt upon himself and Grace just before they had hit the ground, but for now he was simply in too much pain to do anything but scream unevenly.

Grace had hit the side of her head on the under side of the balcony as Thom almost tackled her. They fell ... she almost felt like she was flying ... no! Falling! They were falling!
"Ooph!" They had landed; she on top of Thom and her own leg. The pain was instant. It shot through her like lightening. She rolled off of Thom onto her right side, next to him, and realized she felt nothing there. She looked down at her arm to she what might be causing her paralyzed but her vision was blurred by a warm red liquid that was now streaming down her face and mixing in her purple hair.
She sat up and hugged her arm to her side. Grace saw that her leg was broken by the knee and her arm ... she was still not sure. She did not cry out. She was shocked and in much pain but her throat had closed up and all she could do was breathe.
She looked down at Thom, who was writhing with pain. She had to say something, some way of apologizing. But all she managed was a squeak. She cleared her throat. "Thom!" she breathed, "Thom! Calm down! We're still alive!"
