Lesson One - Welcome A New Professor, A New Class, A Simple Introduction There was a jolt in Isabel's stomach as she entered the classroom a few moments before the class was actually scheduled to start. She was excited, not to mention nervous, about teaching. Of course, that lesson was only going to be an introduction to get to know each other as well as a little but about the class and such, but she was still nervous. She could not believe that she was actually at Hogwarts as a professor. It was like a dream come true. As she had entered, she looked around and then sighed heavily, looked at her desk as well as the chalk board. She smiled to herself and took a piece of chalk in her left hand and rubbed it somewhat, feeling the chalk dust covering her fingers. She then poised it against the board and wrote her name is a very neat and curved writing and then underlined it. Professor Isabel Cifuentes Home Economics She looked at it for a moment before tossing the chalk into the tray and turning to look at the desk, which were individual and lined neatly. She then looked at the papers on her desk as well as the list of students that she was to expect in her first lesson. Of course, it was not many, but she was sure that the group would soon grow to be more than what it already was. After all, she just had to get the word around about the class, and the students were the best way to do that. She knew that if she was able to get a decent lesson in, maybe two, then she would probably have the students talking about it. She hoped that would be the case. Footsteps started to echo through the halls and into the room, which told her that the students were arriving. She inhaled excitedly and then put her hand to her head and got worried all of a sudden. She then started to fix her pink robes, wiping them somewhat as to rid them of the dust. She was doubtfully going to wear robes very often, but she was trying to make a good first impression for the students, though she doubted what she wore would make a difference. She ran her fingers through her long, mass of waves and then tried to fix them somewhat, though it was no use. She tucked them behind her ears, and they remained for a few moments before falling back into her face. As usual, she ignored it as she put her dark eyes on the door as someone entered... Grace smiled at the new professor as she stuck her head passed the door. "Good day, Professor," she said and walked in. She avoided eye contact with the teacher from there on but made her way towards a random desk. She sat down and removed all her note making equipment from her bag. She set them gently on the desk in front of her then clasped her hands together in her lap.

Generally Novella might have wanted to make a good impression, and so would have left Darin and Loiosh, or Loiosh at least, back in the common room. They might have grumbled, but walking in to the first class with a new teacher complete with a dragon on one shoulder and a ferret on the other wasn't really the way she wanted to come off.
But, with Thom's recent problems with the other Hufflepuffs... she thought perhaps it would be better to keep all of her eyes around her.
So that was indeed the way she stepped in to the room, Loiosh proud and golden-copper on her left shoulder, his long neck twisted, swinging it around slowly as his eyes passed over the only other student there, as well as the new teacher. Darin sat on her left, draped over her shoulder, clinging on to her Gryffindor-red robes with tiny, sharp claws, his small eyes closed. He'd been up very late the night previously coaching the quidditch team, and so was napping... which was perfectly alright, as long as he could hold on.
Novella ignored Grace, walking right up to the teacher and holding out a hand. "Nice to meet you, I'm Novella Sandler."

Isabel looked at the students that had arrived to her class. Only two of them had come at that moment, but she was sure that more would be there soon. She smiled as the first person entered, a Hufflepuff, as she had greeted her. Isabel truly felt welcomed now. She was supposed to be the one to greet them and they completely ignore her, but the student had greeted her. "Good morning," she said lightly, her breath somewhat full of nervousness. She had no idea why she was like this. She usually wasn't, but right then, she was. The Hufflepuff took a seat behind a random desk and then took out the necessary materials for the class, though they were not necessary for that day.
Another student then entered, and Isabel turned her attention to the girl, a Gryffindor. She appeared to have a small dragon on one shoulder, which Isabel recognized as peruvian vipertooth. She got a bit uneasy since she knew that they were poisonous, but she was sure that the girl had it under hand. She smiled kindly and then noticed that she also had a ferret on the other shoulder, which was white. She smiled even broader as the girl approached her and held out a hand for her to shake as she introduced herself. Isabel extended one of her small hands towards the girl and grasped it loosely.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," she said in her light voice, an accent about in it. "I like your ferret and your dragon. They are both very adorable." Isabel offered a smile and then withdrew her hand and brought it back to her side delicately. (279 words)

Girty walked thought the door very slowly, like she had walked all the way from the common room. Her bag was hung loosely over her shoulder and her glasses were already half way down her nose. As she looked around the room she saw the professor. "Hello Professor" She smiled and noticed Grace was in the classroom too. Girty then started her slow walk again toward the desk next to Grace. She she sat down Girty pushed her glasses back up her nose and looked at the writing on the board.

Keifer walked into the classroom, for once in his life, he was not tired and his hair had played nicely today. He stood at the back of the classroom, decided what was the better opinion? Back of the class? Less likely to be noticed... Or the frint where most questions were directed. He settled on the back row. "Morning Professor" he said in a happy voice. Smiling at Girty, Grace and Novella. He wondered if he had ever spoken to her, he wasnt sure. He shrugged and looked towards the board.

Thom had pondered greatly about coming to Home Economics. He had found it a little bizarre, as he had never heard of it in any wizarding school before, and wondered what branch of magic in focused on. Domestic spells - the kind his mother used to make the dishes do themselves and the upholstery remove its own stains. Thom, of course, was never going to be the one to do any sort of cleaning (he had always imagined himself a traditional man and husband) and was only here to be with Novella (the one who would be doing the cleaning, he had firmly decided).
He walked into the room, looking about. He was surprised to see so many students already here, but was less than pleased to see Grace and Girty. Not long ago they would have been his first choice of friends to sit next to, but recent events triggered by Girty had changed that.
Now he choose to wander over to where Novella's satchel was. She was currently at the front of the room, greeting the new professor with Loiosh and Darin on her shoulders. Thom sent her a warm gold hue. Hello, beautiful. Bit of a risk bringing those too to a first lesson, eh? he said affectionately.

Novella grinned. She always apreciated someone who liked her familiars. "The dragon's Loiosh and the ferret is Darin, and I'm sure they're pleased to meet you too," she answered. Loiosh sensed Thom coming before he spoke into her mind, sending happy yellow-copper to them both. He flapped his wing a few times for altitude, his talons leaving Novella's shoulder, and glided to perch on Thom's, rubbing his head against the boy's in greeting. "I'll just be going back to my seat now so you can start the lesson," she told the teacher, turning to greet Thom as well, with a smile along with her obvious, er... mental-happiness xD Well, Grace and Girty... she answered, glancing over at them briefly. I just didn't want any trouble, she said finally, sitting down beside Thom.

Thom smiled at her warmly as she sat down, slipping his arm around her shoulders and leaning back to look at her lovingly. He gave her a kiss on the cheek as he scratched Loiosh's chin with his free hand. I'll be alright. I'm sure its just a female thing - ganging up on the evil male who has ruined love one more. Are you okay with them being here? he asked seriously.
The Hufflepuff laughed as Darin began nudging his satchel with his snout, snuffling loudly. 'Oy, get out of it...' he grinned, tickling Darin's head to distract him. I have rose mead in there. It's for us after lesson, he smiled.

Isabel looked at the other students that had arrived to class and gave them a small smile. She was glad that they had greeted her upon entering for the most part, and she was glad to see that they had arrived on time as well. She looked at her list and then at the amount of students in the room. She checked the time shortly afterward. It was time for class to start, and only one student had not entered yet. She sighed to herself, not wanting to start before all of the students had arrived, but she knew that she had to. So, looked at the students and took a deep breath before speaking. When she did speak, she had a certain excitement in her voice as well as a nervousness. She was afraid that they would not be able to hear her or even understand her. And then she was scared that they would not like the class. They were so many things going on inside of her head that she was surprised she was even able to speak.
"Good morning, and welcome to the class of Home Economics. I am your professor, Isabel Cifuentes, and I will obviously be teaching the class. However, today, we will just get to know each other a little bit and going over things that I expect from you and that you expect from me while you are taking the course.
"Okay, I would like to start by saying that I personally do not care what you call me in or out of the classroom, as long as it is appropriate. You can call me professor, Professor Cifuentes, Professor Isabel, Ms. Cifuentes, Isabel, Isa, I, Bel...whatever. There are numerous others, but I am not going to take time to name them all."
Isabel laughed lightly after she finished speaking. She looked around at the various faces in the room and tried to think of what names on her roster went with who was in the classroom. She knew one student, but she did not know the others. She would soon find out, however.
"Alright, um, as I said, we are doing introductions. I am sure that most of you already know each other, but I don't. So, if anyone would like to start by introducing themself, I would be very pleased. If not, then I will be called your names alphabetically down the role. Once we get this out of the way, I will allow you all to ask questions that are directed towards me, or if you wish, another student. However, I would prefer that most of the questions are asked in my direction. Who would like to start?" She asked them and waited.
She knew that she was probably sounding really boring at that moment, and she was starting to wonder if the students thought the same as she was thinking. She did not want to sound boring, considering the fact that she was not really a boring person. Sighing inwardly to herself, she waited for hands to go in the air or someone speaking up to offer to start introducing themself. It was only a matter of time. (529 words)

Lauretta walked into the classroom listening to what the teacher had been saying when she noticed whom this teacher was and that she had met her before in the library. "Hey Bel-bel" she said taking a seat near Keifer. 'I knew she was someone to respect' she thought while turning to Keifer and Grace. "Hey you two, long time no see" she directed towards them. "I thought you were a TA this year Keifer" Lauretta stated, wondering why he would want to take a class when it wasn't nessesary, but then again it was Keifer and some things about him just couldn't be explained. She had realized that sometime last year. Still, she was excited to see him.

Isabel turned her attention to the arrival to the classroom, saying nothing for the first few moments. She knew who the Slytherin was, for they had previously met in the library, and the girl had gotten her a book from one of the high shelves since she was unable to reach it. After all, she was very short, only standing at a height of 5'2". Smiling kindly as L.C. had greeted her, she nodded in her direction, taking note that she had been called 'Bel-bel'. Of course, Isabel herself did not mind since she liked having nicknames, but, to her, that one sounded really weird since she had never really heard it before.
Turning back to the class, no one offering to start off, Isabel decided that she was going to have to do it the hard way. As boring as introductions were, they needed to be done so that Isabel could get a feel of the various likes and dislikes as well as personalities of the students so that she could make activities that would appeal to everyone. So, turning to grab her paper with the names on it from her desk, looking at it. They were in alphabetical order, and she was just going to go down the role. So, sighing to herself, she looked at the students.
"Alright, I apologize if I misprounce names, but some of these I am not familiar with. Correct me if I am wrong, please. Anyway, Ke--Kay--um, Key-fur (Keifer) Brently," Isabel called out. She looked around the room and waited, having a feeling that she had mispronounced the name. "Did I say that correctly?" She asked around the room and waited. (281 words)

Jac ran into the room, her face red, here eyes misty blue and her hair wavy and blond. The colour did not suit her but she was not in a normal state. She was late! This occurrence was the first and Jac felt terribly for disrupting.
After having burst into the class, Jac strode up to the lady whom was obviously the teacher and blushed as she spoke. "Ma'am, I am very sorry about being late. I was in the library doing so research and the time escaped me. It won't happen again."
She felt her face go hot as she turned and took a seat far removed from everyone else. Her hair was a shocking chestnut blond, she hated it when that happened but she kept her head low and her hot, red cheeks hidden by her cold hands.

Girty watched Jac run in. Trying to stop herself bursting out laughing she looked down at the table to compose herself. After a few breaths she looked to Jac and pointed toward the seat next to her. Girty slided the chair out with her foot and smiled as Jac tried to cool down her red cheeks.
