Felicity took the notebook greatfully and muttered a 'Thank you'. She set it down on her lap and arranged her books to one side of the table. Fay finally decided to glance around the room to see who was in the class. Bradyn was sitting closest to her, and she grinned at him in a hello. The other people, well, their names were a little fuzzy. She recognized Ashton, because he was the captain of the quidditch team, but that was it.
Fay's attention snapped back to the teacher as he mentioned the seven lines. She raised her hand, making sure she got the teacher's attention before she answered. "There's the Line of Fate." Felicity held out her hand and pointed to where it started on her wrist.

Bray smiled a bit when Fay tripped, only a girl that silly could blow her cover of being late by something that obvious. When she sat down by him he leaned over towards her, keeping an eye on Professor Vickers so he wouldn't notice. "Good job, Fay. Usually late people don't put on a show." When he saw Bry had sneaked in, he looked over and her and gave a small smile. Well, at least she could show him up in something, he thought when she added onto his answer.
Since Fay decided she was going to go with the lines thing, he thought he'd show Bry back up too. He grinned and gave her a challenging look before adding. "Also there's the line of venus, also called the Girdle of Venus that's right here." He said, tracing the faint line that started between his index and middle finger.

Briar nodded in Bray's direction, without a smile. For some reason, today just wasn't a good day for Bry. She turned her attention back to the professor, decided she should really be more interested in the lesson then Bradyn, though the thought made her a bit sad.
She held her palm up and traced the line that formed a sort of halfmoon around her thumb, "There's the life line. It's said represent a person's vitality and vigor, physical health and general well being. It's also said to reflect major life changes, including cataclysmic events, physical injuries, and relocations. The only contrary to the muggle's view of the life line is that true palmist generally do not believe that the length of a person's life line is tied to the length of a person's life," she said placing her palm face down onto her desk. She shrugged, Chiromancy was something she was familiar with at a very young age. The thing she still had trouble with was interpretting her visions, not lines or mounts of the palm.

Edward slanted his head to one side as his gaze landed on his enthusiastic peers. Blinking in a fashion that expressed his boredom, he let his eyes fall onto the desk where he flipped over a hand to see the lines on his own palm.
Glancing back at the curtain, Edward frowned. His lines seemed choppy and frayed at the ends, unlike the smooth dips in their professor's palm. Curling his slender fingers back into a relaxed fist, he refocused his attention on the blackboard.
He was content to stay silent and observing until he heard the ridiculous answer from a Hufflepuff sitting a few tables ahead of him. "I believe you just complicated a very simple message with a long and intangible explanation." He said, not particularly in a condescending way, though could read the offense of the students around him.

Felicity glanced back as the Slytherin responded. She arched an eyebrow, and pressed her lips together. Well, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. An innocent grin appeared on her face and her eyes widened slightly, adding to the innocent look. "Dearie me, I guess that means she's rather intelligent isn't she?" The grin widened. "Even more than you I might say, because it seems you did not know the answer." Her eyes widened and she placed her hand over her mouth. "Oh dear, did I say that outloud?"
Fay glanced over to Bry, grinned, then looked back at the teacher, her hands folded neatly in her lap.

As expected, a Ravenclaw found his brazen attitude less than impressive. Edward's lips curved into a small smile as his half-lidded eyes continued to stare down at his digits, opening again to display his wide palm.
As swift as a razor, he swiped across the top of his palm horizontally with a blunt fingernail. "Heart line." He said easily. "Self-explanatory, especially if you're a romantic." His eyes finally looked up, losing their smugness. "Although, interestingly enough, it can also represent the heart's health, physically."
He settled back in his seat, resuming his former position, although raised his eyebrows just slightly at Felicity as if he knew she'd peg him as pretentious.

A smirk flashed across her face for a moment as she glanced back at the boy. Well, not the exact answer she had expected. She had almost espected an outburst, or something to the like. Well, this certainly sparked her curiousity.
From what Fay could see, the boy was only a few chairs -or tables- away from her. She had probably seen him once or twice in the halls, but Felicity couldn't remember his name. She truly doubted he knew hers, since only the Ravenclaws really knew Felicity.
Her eyes soon strayed back to the chalkboard, and the smirk faded so only one corner of her mouth turned up slightly. Fay would have to speak with this boy when the class was done.

Shabnam laughed at Char’s quip before turning her slow gaze upon Professor Vickers, musing over the idea of living as an old fortune teller by night, a busy muggle accountant by day. She smirked, imagining her smartly dressed professor in knitted shawls, fake gold and bangles, although she suspected Char’s gypsy and Professor Vickers’s former life were entirely unrelated.
Realising she was still holding Ashton’s wrist, who was looking increasingly uncomfortable and was trying to edge it out of her grip subtly, Shabnam settled down in her chair, watching that familiar yellow chalk looping against the blackboard.
‘May I?’ She asked the pale Slytherin boy, pointing at the unopened text book in front of him. He was momentarily distracted by a Ravenclaw girl, and so Shabnam walked over and picked it up, sitting down in the seat next to him as she flipped open the gold and green hard back, looking for the Chiromancy unit.
Elaborate ink drawings of decorated palms, thick with jewelled rings entwined across the page, their long feminine fingers locked together so that all their lines joined up, demonstrating the idea of a grand connection. “The Apollo Line,” Shabnam readout slowly. ‘Or the Fame Line. That affects the length of your Fate line, apparently. Did you know that?’ She looked at the Slytherin boy, intrigued by her own discovery. Perhaps palmistry would be something to practice…

The yellow stick of chalk had abandoned its neat scrawl on the blackboard and instead messily sketched a scoreboard. Two columns were titled "Felicity" and "Edward" and each held one tally point. Allion, as though unaware of it entirely, was smiling broadly from his position in front of the classroom.
"You are all quite correct." He nodded, before turning his misty gaze toward the drapes still depicting his palm. Each line mentioned had glowed as it was named, leaving the illustration to glimmer.
"The heart line is usually firstly examined. As Mr. Niven pointed out," Allion smiled, finally turning to the board where he scanned Edward's name. "With a little prompting from Miss. Locke- it is found toward the top of the palm." The heart line took on a green glow on Allion's pseudo palm.
"Next, we look at the Head Line. Generally, this is my favourite line to read - it lets me know when a student is focused on Lunch rather than the lesson." With a small smile, Allion moved on.
"We could go on like this, but I have another idea in mind." Allion walked over to the next set of drapes, near Alexis. The tall window was immediately covered with the thick material, and on it just as before, there was another palm. Only this time, it was Bradyn's.
As if a chain reaction was induced, the rest of the drapes fell onto towering windows and exposed a new palm on each. They all were blown portraits identical to the palms of the students in his class. "If everyone could find their respective palm, please?"
Of course, it was a bit of a coincidence that there was exactly the right amount of windows for each student, Allion would later explain to anyone who asked.

Though Bray had tried to avoid it, it couldn't be helped. He joined in on the mindless staring of his palm, and when Professor Vickers started moving again he looked up and saw that he was standing next to a curtain of a palm that looked oddly familiar. Glancing from it to his palm many times, he finally realized what it was. "Bloody h-... how did you do that, Professor?" He asked quickly, not caring at the stupidity of the question.
Bray stood up and left his books, figuring this wouldn't be a book activity with the real thing so readily available. Bray chuckled as he passed the board, if Niven and Locke were going to keep this up it may soon become one of this favorite classes. Bray glanced over his palm, quickly locating the line he had mentioned and traced the line lightly. This made things a lot easier for him to see in the dark classroom.

Bry gasped as her palm appeared in place of a window. She hated the sight of it already, how could she not notice it was her own. She saw it everday. With a groan she stood up and walked over to her palm. She didn't care how the professor did it, she just wanted him to undo it. She could see the fate of each palm already. Riches, Rags, death, love, power, happiness, emptyness... it was all the same to her now.

Char walked past his own palm to the one next it, which seemed to belong to Briar. Peering at it curiously, not realising that he was probably invading on her privacy, Char smiled.
"You've got a lot of crosses, and look at that twisted sort of hook." Char craned his neck to look over at his window, noticing that it was very plain and each segment was smooth without any budding lines. Tilting his head to one side, his eyes brightened. "Looks like you have an exciting life."

Felicity sighed and stood. "Well, better go off looking for my palm." She looked around the room, glancing at her palm every few seconds to make sure she could find her own. Finally, she found it. Fay skipped over to where her palm shimmered lightly on the drape. "Now I can't tell whether that looks good or bad." She frowned, brow furrowing slightly. Fay didn't really like the idea of having her palm on display. Oh well, everyone else did too.

Alexine sat there with open mouth. She payed attention but this was really hard to understand. Some people could easily point their handpalm. Chiromancy, a beautiful word for something so vague. The whole Divination thing was vague, but still Alexine was interested in those mysteries. She was glad that she wasn't a Ravenclaw. The pressure to be the smartest didn't sound good to her. They were know-it-alls and they were it for fun. They will not pretend they are. They are sorted this way. Alexine had a hard time picking her handpalm. She looked and looked at her own handpalms and again at the windows. There was one handpalm which was very familiar to her. It had a kind of extraordinary heart line. Her father already told this, Divination was his favourite class. She looked around and noticed that she was not the last one to find his or her palm.

Kendal didn't necessarily believe in the whole idea of divination, but when you had family talking from every different direction of what you should take it was hard not to listen when some of the arguments made sense at the time. Kendal did that she actually listened and now here she was entering the room hearing mention of the word Chriomancy or some such thing. She couldn't wait to see what that was about, she thought sarcastically.
Sitting next to a fellow Hufflepuff, she though her name was Alexine. Kendal hoped she didn't mind too much, but seeing as there really wasn't that many places to sit she figured it was something that would have to be dealt with. Seeing as how some people were looking at their palms she figured that's what they'd be doing. Rolling her eyes she figured that'd be great.
