Lesson II: Polyjuice Potion

[Professor William Vaid]

POLYJUICE POTION

Professor Vaid stood at the door of the classroom awaiting the students to arrive. It made a change from him sitting at his desk and propping his feet up on the table, a cup of tea in one hand and the daily prophet in the other. So far there were no signs of students turning up, and they had ten minutes before class started. The professor was not going to be nice as usual in this lesson, because this was an extremely important potion they would be learning about. They were still going to have fun with it however.

He began whistling a tune to himself as he heard footsteps coming down the stairs. 'It's about time' he thought to himself, deciding whoever was the first to show their face would recieve 10 house points for someone finally arriving...so what house was it going to be?

"Blimey, 10 points to you for being the first to show up! Hurry up, class is starting soon, get seated!" he said with a smile.[/size]

Classes were back in session. Alexis wasn't sure if she was ready for a new year so soon but there was nothing she could do to stop it. Her first class of the day happened to be potions, the girl groaned loudly causing several people in the halls to stare at her. Ignoring them she walked on. It wasn't that she disliked the professor or anything it's just she was horrible at potions. All that measuring and being precise. To her it was a lot like baking and no matter how hard her mom tried to teach her to bake Alexis was rubbish.

Entering the classroom she sighed then her eyes popped out of her head as she saw the professor standing at the door. Hopefully he hadn't heard that. Then to make matters even more annoying she noticed that she was the first there. Brilliant, now she'd be labeled the nerd for being first there. The only good thing about it was that the professor automatically gave her 10 points for being first. At least her house was 10 points richer just because she was prompt. Feeling a wee bit better she gave Professor Vaid a smile "thanks a lot 10 points is very generous. Guess I'll have to be early more often."

Finding a table that was far enough away so she wouldn't be easily seen Alexis wondered about their lesson. "So what is it today sir?" she asked her curiosity getting the better of her.

Dorian came running down the stairs he was hoping he wouldn't be late for his first potions class. As he rounded the corner and came hutling through the door he slowed down noticing that there was only one other person there. He sighed as he walked over and sat by her. She was sitting in a place that was away from where everyone else would be so he thought he'd be nice, she was pretty good looking after all.

"Hey"

He, couldn't think of much else to say and just hoped she wasn't an anti social nerd who would hit him over the head with a book for sitting by her. He looked over at the professer and hoped a hufflepuff, no less the head of hufflepuff would actually be able to be smart enough to teach a lesson. He smiled at the thought of the teacher messing up over his words.

Luckily she wasn't alone in the room for long. Someone else entered a Slytherin based on the color of his robes. Alexis tried no to be biased against anyone from that house, she believed in the get to know someone approach so she didn't act mean or nasty when he came and sat by her. That wouldn't be very claw like so when he said "Hey" Alexis gave her usual easy smile saying "Hey yourself."

He was kind of cute and so far didn't seem mean so what would it hurt to be nice back. "I'm Alexis" introductions were always polite. Knowing the name of the person she was talkng to was always a plus. So as she unpacked her things she waited for his response wondering if the niceness would hold out on his part.

[Bradyn Reed]

For the entire day, Bray felt like he was running on empty. Lately he's been forced to do later shifts, and ones without Fay since there always seemed to be mysterious trouble caused when they were both out. Whoops, who knew that they were supposed to be busting people instead of causing their own mayhem? Either way, he hadn't gotten much sleep for the past couple of nights. He was tempted to just transform and go sleep under one of the grounds trees, but instead he just ambled through his classes with a generally bad mood. Lucky them, right?

Potions was next, and probably one of the classes he found to be more useless. Sure, potions were helpful, but charms were just so much easier. Dragging his feet in slowly, he just plopped in the closest seat to the door and leaned back tiredly. "We wouldn't happen to be making sleeping potions, would we?" He said while looking up to Vaid with a quirked brow. That would be too convenient, they would probably do something that involved paying intention.

[Rosalind Matthews]

She was so excited. Her first class and it was with Will her mothers cousin. She had yet to really meet him, all that time she spent locked in her dorm room the only person she had bothered with was Paige. When things got settled with her schedule she was overly excited to find that she was in Will's class. All morning she was overly excited about it could barely contain herself. Finally getting to put her robes on she felt like a real Hogwarts student for the first time.

Taking up the map she received in her packet she looked for the potions classroom located in the dungeons. Sounded fun since she hadn't really been anywhere in the school besides that corridor with the painting and the Great Hall. Leaving her room now Rosa had butterflies in her stomach now. This was all becoming too real she was finally with kids like her.

Following the map she found the room in no time taking a deep breath she hoped that Will would be as nice as her mother had described him. Nerves got to her as she finally pushed herself to go into the room. There were other kids there already of course she didn't know any of them. Feeling out of place Rosa found a spot in the back better not to have people notice her (not that there was anything she could do to stop it).

Dorian was pleased that she didn't seem to recoil at the sight of him as most people did when they saw slytherins, but rather she smiled and introduced herself.

He watched momentarily distracted as two other students came through the door. A boy and a girl both ravenclaw. The girl looked a little nervous and he couldn't blame her he was nervous too. Nervous that the fool of a hufflepuff teacher would explode something. He suddenly remembered Alexis and started turning back towards her.

"I'm Dorian, noce to meet you"

He smiled and held out his hand for her to shake.

[Alexis Heart]

He held out his hand for her to shake. Alexis eyed the hand warily who knew if there was some ulterior motive. Then she realized she was being narrow minded something she said she wasn't going to do with him. So holding out her hand she took his in hers. "It's really nice to meet you Dorian. So what year are you?"

The class was starting to fill up but so far her and Dorian still had their own little corner and weren't being bothered. She wasn't really feeling very social but Dorian seemed really cool so she made an exception. Then she saw the new Ravenclaw girl there was a a lot of talk about her especially since she showed up to the school so late she was like a fifth year or something and she just started school. Alexis found herself staring caught herself and stopped.

She seemed to pause for a second before shaking his hand. But, she did so and he found himself smiling. She really was pretty and he found himself waiting a few seconds longer then usual to let go of her hand.

"I'm a sixth year, you?"

For a second the room went a little hazey and he could feel the contents of his head spinning round and round in circles. He'd felt this way before about girl before but only once. He wondered if this was the same thing. But, how would he know he had only just met her. Maybe he'd ask her to Hogsmead with him over the weekend or something. Or maybe... No, for the moment he needed to study maybe after the lesson he could think about it.

[Alexis Heart]

Alexis was one of those girls who never noticed anything special about herself. People said she was beautiful but she didn't see it. This failure to notice also caused her not see what boys thought of her. The girl was completely oblivious like right now. If she were more observant she would have noticed Dorian take hold of her hand and hold it in his just a tiny bit longer than was necessary. Alexis didn't even realize which was probably why she didn't feel uncomfortable in the least.

It was probably a plus though. Not realizing boys were noticing her kept her free to be the studious girl she was now even if it meant a pretty dull existence. Heck if she just realized Dorian was eying her she probably would have made her all jittery and she'd probably act all goofy making her completely uncool.

"Sixth year wow so you're almost done cool. I'm only a fifth year which means I still have a few more years to go. I'm in Ravenclaw probably didn't have to say that since I got my robes on" she laughed being oblivious was good cause she didn't feel like a total dufus for what she just said.

[Sarie Thimble]

Sarie ran down the stairs. She was late for potions. It was her best class. She hoped she wouldn't run into any teachers as she sprinted down the hall. She made it to the class room door. She hurried in. Setting her things down and hoping she hadn't disturbed the lesson.

[Professor William Vaid]

Smiling as Sarie came bursting into the Room, and watched as she sat down looking rather flustered.
"Were you scared you were late for lesson then Sarie?" he chuckled heartily before looking away from her. Bless her, she was so keen and eager with potions that Will couldn't help but think she was adorable. He'd never once seen a student with so much enthusiasm as her for potions, most of them found it boring and tedious.

"Alright class, 5 more minutes before we start. It seems most of the class who signed up think they can get out of it doesn't it?" he said tutting to himself before wondering how many points he was going to take off the late students. They were already late but he was determined to get them into the lesson.

"Ten points each to you Sarie, Alexis, Bray, Rosalind and Dorian"

[Ellie Rook]

Ellie could kill today. Did everyone decided to buy illegal items over the summer and think it was a good idea to use them obviously in the halls? Ellie had just spent a half hour getting a Fanged Frisbee detached from a second years behind while a group of Slytherin stood there laughing up a storm. They were so lucky she couldn't take points away from their house, they would have been in negatives.

Ellie knew she was late for class as she walked in. She anticipated points to be lost, but she wasn't going to miss the class because of it. Prefect duties had gotten in the way, but she was sure Vaid wasn't going to take any excuses, oh well.

Ellie walked in, trying to be as quiet as possible so as not to disturb class. The sixth year found a seat floating somewhere in the middle of he class. "Sorry." She mouthed to Professor Vaid, as she got out her book and fixed her cauldron. She folded her hands on her desk, and waited for the class to actually begin.

[Angelique Juliette]

Angel had snuck out the night before and spent the better part of her night in the Leaky Cauldron in London. Being a seventh year had its perks and one was she could now perform magic without getting into trouble and she could apparate now too, so once she was in Hogsmeade she could go as she pleased and go she did. It was a long night at the leaky and she was being served drink after drink which she did not turn down. Last night she had the most fun she had had in so very long. School was a forgotten memory at least for a few hours.

Back to reality now and her clock was going off and it had been for the last half hour. When Angel's eyes finally popped open it was to a splitting headache and a loud song blaring on the radio. Her hand reached out as fast as humanly possible and she slammed on the snooze button. The loud noise caused a throbbing in her head. Laying there for the rest of the day would have been ideal but she had potions to get to and if she missed it questions would be asked questions she didn't feel like answering.

Getting up and getting ready proved to be very challenging. Simple things like brushing her teeth made her head throb something awful which made her stomach churn. Now she had to figure our how to make it through an entire class this way. Walking to the Great Hall she had about two mugs of coffee knowing she was already running late for class but this was necessary in order to function. After she was done she walked slowly and now she was late.

She knew this would probably mean points taken from her house. Of course she didn't want that but there wasn't much she could do to stop it. Maybe if it had been another professor she could have flirted her way out of it, but Vaid didn't seem the type to allow that sort of thing so she was prepared to take her punishment when she walked into the room. Trying to be mature she apologized "Sorry professor honestly," then she took a seat in the back hoping that no more would be said about her arrival. Her head throbbed as if saying it hoped so too.
